Don't worry so much. The most unattractive thing is someone who tries too hard. She hangs out in your group alot, that's a very good thing. When you guys are at the bonfire try to talk to her, if you guys click.. it'll be very easy to start a conversation with her. When a girl says "she wants to get to know you better"... it usually means "give me a little bit of time to decide". So she's deciding.. try not to come on too strong, but just kind of hang around and see how things go. Just make it like you're hanging out with your friends.. and you can usually tell how someone feels about you by watching the way they look when they talk to you. So I dunno, just talk to her and hang around with her. If it's meant to happen.. it will.

Posted on 04-23-06 08:25 PM, in On the Evaluation of Faith Link
How did you come to accept your current faith?

With alot of thinking. I came to realize that organized religion wasn't gonna work for me... as I'd like to think that people need to take an active part in their faith. I believe in reincarnation so I believe that our beliefs are with us from birth.. and if you turn yourself off to nurture and let nature course through you... you'll feel like you're a part of something.. and you'll feel what you personally truly believe. I kind of got my own beliefs doing this... but if you're hung up on labels.. I'm somewhat Wiccan/Buddhist.

What aspects of it appeal to you?

The freedom to reason with yourself. I think that if you don't question your faith.. that if you don't question the world around you... then something is seriously wrong. So what I believe allows me the freedom to believe what I want without any convictions or controversy. I believe what I feel in my heart.

With what aspects do you disagree?

None really.

What aspects of other faiths do you find deficient?

The only one I can think of is that religion has become mass produced... people don't take an active part in their faith anymore. They show up on Sunday for an hour or so and get lectured. Uncool. Form your own opinions and beliefs.

What is the primary purpose of religion in your life?

Just for the piece of mind... to know that I'm not a speck of dust in an endless void.

How can you justify faith knowing that, by its very nature, you can never verify its truth?

It's a feeling.

What would do if sience partially/totally disprove your current religion?

Science does NOT work against religion. People who take the bible literally word for word are morons. It's metaphors.. guidelines for life. That's how I took it in when I read it. Science is there so we can question the world around us... and I think that with religion we are supposed to question things as well. The mythological figures can be innacurate, and adam and eve may have never existed.. but you can never kill an idea. The ideas behind the figures are more important. I'm not even talking about my religion right now... but I don't think the names and dates are important really in any religion.. just the ideas and the faith and the beliefs. There's no need to get extremely secular with religion at all. Silly.

I love how everyone worries about the kids being corrupted... it's so absolutely absurdly ridiculous. What happened to crazy? If a kid plays a game where he shoots someone.. and then goes out and shoots someone.. he's CRAZY. It's not like games have a mind controlling effect... or affect the real world at all. And if you can't make that distinction.. there is something seriously seriously wrong. It's all about control.. this is another one of those issue's that politicians use to get their vote count up. I don't think intelligent people can actually believe that a videogame could affect a persons behavior, unless there was something wrong with the person.... honestly... I can't bring myself to believe that.

Good, someone needs to bring Global Warming to the forefront of our minds because I believe it is the single most defining issue of our generation. The most threatening and urgent. Go Al Gore.

And just as a sidenote before I rant on and on... even if you don't believe that pollution and greenhouse gasses are causing global warming... it's not like they are helping the planet at all. You don't live in manhattan where there's a smog above the city making it 10 degrees warmer than the surrounding areas.. (and it's an island). I live on Staten Island and you do NOT want to swim in the waters around here. They're bright toxic green in some areas, and it's absolutely disgusting and disturbing. How can you argue that pollution is okay when clearly it is harming the environment? I can tell you volcano's didn't do those things.

Now, there is more than enough evidence that suggests that global warming is a result of greenhouse gasses. When I say more than enough.. I say that like every real* scientist under the sun sees the evidence and has concluded that there is a definite link. The global temperature difference between now, and the ice age was only 2º.. in the next 100 years scientists predict that the global temperature will increase by at least 5º-10º... and we should be doing EVERYTHING in our power to stop this. (heard that on air america). There are enough alternate sources of energy... what this basically boils down to is G-R-E-E-D. So yes, we are destroying ourselves and the planet because people are greedy. It infuriates me to think that the president of exxon mobile has the power to do something amazing for the world.. the power to change it so we won't all be in serious jeopardy.. and he won't because he's making a ton of money off of our oil addiction. I propose that we really honestly start making the switch to another form of energy... make it as available as oil.. exxon mobile can even partake in the production of it.. and making it available. It simply has GOT to be done.

Of course the earth goes through some climate changes... but my point is... why would we want to try and speed up the process? And why do you favor pollution and destruction? It doesn't make sense. Most people say "Who cares? I'll be dead by then.." and I say "The earth is a gift loaned to you by your children.. take care of it"..

And that's what I think.

*not scientists hired by exxon mobile or the bush administration.

We'll adapt. It's what we've done for thousands of years. It's not going to change anytime soon.

Within the next 100 years the temperate is supposed to increase globally by like 5º-10º. That's pretty soon. How soon can a global climate change occur?

We are a mere spec on the timeline of earth. So the earth has never had to respond to a situation where we were there.. where this exact thing happened. I'm not saying the earth won't survive... but it's very very possible that humans may not survive.

Having been with someone for a year online.. I'd say that overall.. it will not work out. Especially when you're young and you can't visit that person.. like generally at all. I'd hate to be pessimistic.. but unless you're really really sure about it, which it sounds like you're not.. then don't go for it. It's frustrating.. and requires a LOT of self control for both parties. It's a lonely lonely way to live your life... and I'm assuming you're young. Just for your own sake... put yourself out there and go party it up.. live life to the fullest.. party hard and love harder you only live once.

I hate when people say "it won't happen in our lifetime... bathe in oil". So basically fuck your children and your grandkids? You're fine with that? I can't settle for that.

Just why would you want to shorten humans existance on earth for any longer than it's shortened. Conservatives preach and preach about preserving human life.. anti-abortion... yet they're so quick to shirk their responsibility in contributing to global warming which could threaten all life on the planet. I don't get it at all.

Anyways... global warming will cut years off of our existance. Maybe it won't affect you, but it'll affect other people. Why would you want to condemn them? Why conduct an experiment on the only earth that we have?

I lost my ipod while I was drunk... so I haven't had as much music to listen to lately.. and honestly... I've been more stressed out. I've actually had this empty feeling in my soul where all my music used to be. Strange I guess.

I believe that you listen to music that reflects your personality. I listen to alot of pop punk.. like blink182, all american rejects, greenday.. my chemical romance.. I dunno songs that make me want to go out and conquer the planet.. because that's the kind of person I am. I'm also very love-oriented.. I guess.. I think about relationships and people alot.. which draws me to alot of emo and love songs... and cheesy old songs from the 60's.. like "god only knows" by the beach boys. Or even songs with a message get me going.. songs that say something... like "imagine" by john lennon.. because I think way way too much. "BOOM!" by system of a down is another good example. Yummy.

However.. I cannot listen to techno if my life depended on it. I can deal with some rap.. and that's about it. I don't like these genre's because they don't pry deeper into my life.. and I can't relate to anything these songs are about.. they don't speak to me... on any level. But in clubs.. they are a hellofalotta fun to dance to.

Oh god ew seriously.

When I was like 4 or 5 I used to lick the wood on pencils.

And that's pretty gross.

And as a baby like 2 or 3.. I used to bite my toenails.

We all do weird unhealthy things when we're young.

Are you going to tell me that this isn't funny? I beg to differ.

But my friend used to cut two years ago.. because her brother had just gotten arrested (he's now in prison serving a 4 year sentance).. and her mother was addicted to drugs... her older sister was an alcoholic.. so if you can't understand why some people think their lives suck... STFU. Cutting is a serious problem, and it's an addiction.. you can get an adrenaline rush from it. My sister used to cut because we have some family problems that I don't need to get into right now. And I'm telling you.. if you know someone who cuts it's VERY HARD to stop them. It's not funny and it's not just "emo crap" you're dealing with. And most of the time emo kids don't even cut themselves. My friend listens to rap and techno and shit. So stop stereotyping and stop making a joke at someone's serious pain.

pineapple.. MmmAmammgahh<3

But in response to the orange question.. I think we don't see much orange in the natural world... just some flowers like marigolds.. and oranges. I can't think of much else. Probably the color name came first.. and then they found oranges and were like "OMGEE... it's orange"..

Or at least that's what I always thought.

And Pineapples > Pears.... sorry, it's just a fact.

I said that in this thread.

How about before their were legal abortions.. women were shoving hangars up themselves.. killing themselves and their babies? That shit is going to happen again if you outlaw abortions. And you'll have people doing under the table stuff. Alot of people.

And I too believe that prostitution should be legal. You can go out there and be a prostitute now.. and it's not legal. They might as well just be able to perform their job without being arrested for it... it's always contantly going to happen. It's her choice. It may not be a good one... but people are going to make that choice regardless of the law. It's not like legalizing it is going to make it more attractive. If it were legal.. I still wouldn't want to be a prostitute.

Did you watch the movie... even once?

And I'll definatly see this movie. It's an extraordinary story.. and I don't see why it shouldn't be remembered. I don't think people are mercilessly profitting off of it.. someone didn't go "ZOMG 9/11 MOVIE.. I'LL MAKE TONS OF CASH!!!".. even though they probably will... I can't see that as being the thought process involved in something like this.
