I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but if I am on another website, then come here (I have the board's address "saved" in my address bar, so I can come directly here), I see all the boards up to SMW Hacking, then it cuts off before finishing who moderates it. If I refresh or go to another page on the board and come back, it's fixed. What's the major malfuction with the board? Is it shy?

Browser? I have a hard time understanding what each thing on a computer is called, but if you mean what I use to surf the internet, I have Comcast High-Speed Internet... And I'm using Windows XP.

Comcast is your ISP (Internet Service Provider), not your Browser.

A browser is a piece of software like Internet Explorer, or Mozilla lololol. Chances are you're using Internet Explorer -- and on XP, you are using IE 6 -- what might make a difference though is the Service Packs and such.

To check exactly which version of Internet Explorer you are using, open Internet Explorer and go to Help > About Internet Explorer. It will say what version of IE you are using there.

Thanks. I am using IE 6. But... As suddenly as it appeared, this strange occurance has disappeared. How odd that problems mysteriously get solved when someone tells another person about it... Thanks anyways, though.

Because the next comic isn't up yet. Don't the rules say that you can't double-post? I'm sure I read that there... Maybe I'll go back and check, just to be sure...

A few questions:
1: Are you using the Mario and Luigi Blocks? If so, are you using the fixed ones that change Luigi's name back to Mario? If so, how do you get the Luigi-Only and Mario-only blocks to work? They won't work anymore for me, for some reason.
2: What's the "Keys" thing in the status bar for?

I hate to post questions about this hack here, but...

Okay, first of all, I like what you did to this hack. It's made Super Metroid harder, and I thank you for that (I beat the original in less than 24 hours, I think). I've been having a few problems in the hack, like finding Kraid, or even getting Super Missiles (I once forgot to beat Spore Spawn.)! Still, I finally did both, and now I have 3 Energy Tanks and I'm at Norfair. I had problems getting to the Recharge Room, but I finally did it. Now I'm stuck. I can get the Ice Beam without a problem, but... Afterwards, I only have around 30 Energy left, and I can't get out or defeat enemies fast enough to get any energy. Thing is, I hate wasting Missiles. They're hard to get, and Super Missiles are even harder to keep. So, do you have any suggestions on how to get the Ice Beam and escape before I lose all my energy like I've been doing for the past 10 or so times I've tried it?

Thanks. I keep forgetting that Missiles are easy to come by. I guess I just panic and think that even if I use them, I'll lose all my energy anyways...

Scratch all that about what I had to get after the Ice Beam. I finally got the Varia Suit. I didn't notice the pipe near where I was that I could enter by freezing a Ripper/Glider in front of it... Now off to find the Speed Booster! (And maybe the Wave Beam.)

I edited my post saying that I just got it. I'm in Norfair, I've already visited the Map Station, and I am now at the area the Ice Beam was. I already opened the 25-Missile door there, and I've gone back to the Recharge Room to save again and refill all 25 of my Missiles (I should have more, but I'm stuck in Norfair and Kraid's area until I get Power Bombs). So, do I get the Speed Booster, Wave Beam, or Power Bombs next? I really don't want to use the maps floating here on the internet unless I absolutely need them to find out where I need to go next. (I really hope I get the Speed Booster next- Aside from the Charge and Plasma Beams and the Gravity Suit, it's my favorite item in Super Metroid...)

Anyhow, worry about power bombs before getting the speed booster. And trust me, you will need to get good with the speed boost, and fast, because the scene when you get it is probably harder than Hell Run for first timers.

Yeah, I hated that run. So... I'm heading back to the Map Station. I know that above it is a Green Door, but... Beyond it is a hallway I can't get past without the Speed Booster (or possibly using the Mockball secret), so I think there's a hidden passageway behind the Map Station. (Don't tell me if I'm right or wrong, please.)

Edit: Gah, I just noticed the Morph Ball passageway above the Power Bomb blocks... Weird how most people seem to solve their problems by telling people about them, or at least after they do so.

I didn't get very far in the path- I got to a room with a high Morph Ball passage, one of those jumping lava-dwelling things (I have no idea what they are called) and one seahorse-like lava-dweller, and when I tried rolling into the passage after freezing the jumping thing, I fell in the lava and never got back out. I wish there actually were ways to get out of lava if you fall in it. The way it is now, if you fall in it, you must lose all your energyv to get out. Oh yeah, on a side note, did you script those new items yourself? I'd like to learn how to do something like that if I ever started making a Super Metroid hack...

-There is, you just Jump onto the ledge slope that dips into the lava

I tried that, but I couldn't get on it.

I wanted to see if I could just simply roll in there, first. I knew I could get in there with a Bomb Jump, but I had this feeling that in doing so, I would destroy my platform, so I tried my method first.

Nevermind. I found the exit. Now I have no idea where to go. I'm just a few rooms away from the Grappling Beam (the farthest I've been is to a room with a Giant Norfair Sidehopper), but the last room I've been to has a Locked Door, so I can't get through. There's absolutely no way for me to get to the Grappling Beam. Am I on the wrong side of Norfair to get the Grappling Beam? If so, how do I get over there? The FAQ says that I need to take the secret path at the bottom of the tube after Kraid to get to the Grappling Beam, but so far my path has been blocked. What do I need to do to get the Beam? (Also, I have looked at the map... But only to try to find a way to where I'm going. I get to the wrong places often, and I need to know the way through... I've seen Chozo Statues marked on it. What are they for? Does the nearest one to me have some meaning to how I get the Grappling Beam?)

Okay, I'll try that. Wait, that's in the same room, right? Oh yeah, I also already knew about the pipe thing, but I had no idea what room it was. I though it was in the room right before the Grappling Beam...

I can't defeat the Huge Sidehopper. For one, it takes more than 3 Super Missiles, which I do not have. Second, Power Bombs hurt it, but it hits me before I can get out of the way. Third, it hits me way too often. Lastly, I can't react fast enough to try any other weapons.

Edit: Sigh... Missiles worked, so I'm in the room with all the pipes. Do I have to use any Bombs or Power Bombs to get to the Grappling Beam, or do I just have to find the right pipe and roll through it? It seems like I've tried every pipe in the room, but I didn't get to a new room...

Okay, I have the Grappling Beam, and now I'm off for the Speed Booster... No, I don't need help right now, but I'd like some tips:

Should I first go and find all available Missile, S. Missile, Power Bomb, and Energy Tanks as I can get right now? I'd like to be prepared for more Huge Sidehopper attacks, plus I know I'll need them anyways. This hack has because super-hard, and I'm not that far into it! Still, it's a great hack, and leaves me wondering how you ever managed to make those cool Wall-Jump Boots... Oh yeah, and yes, I can be stupid like that sometimes. Unfortunately for me (and many others), I tend to find my answers after I post them, so just ignore that, okay? Thanks. (And no, I don't mind you laughing at me. I'd laugh too if I was in your position.)

Posted on 09-30-06 08:09 PM, in Taking away holding and Small Mario? Link
Is it possible, by using a Hex Editor, to:

1: Take away the ability to hold things?
2: Prevent Mario from going to Small Mario when he gets hit, and even if he dies as Big/Fire/Cape Mario?
3: Make it to where Mario dies after a certain number of hits, regardless of his current state?

I'd like to use these in a hack, but first I need to know if I can do it. Oh yeah, if I can do the above, what addresses would I have to change to get the desired results? Thanks for any help you can give offer me.

Wow. What you did with the Speed Booster was evil. You made use have to bomb our way across those tiny platforms, and then you had use go back through two rooms (one of which is huge), using our new Speed Booster to escape the climbing lava. I barely got out of the second room, but I did. I wonder why Nintendo only made us outrun the lava in the room before the Speed Booster in the original? Maybe one day someone will want to make this hack an official Nintendo game. It should be. That's how great this hack is. In fact... It could bring a lot of people to like Super Metroid!

As the title states, if you ever wanted to make a Super Metroid hack, with features that weren't in Super Metroid, what would you do first? Yes, I want to make a Super Metroid hack, but I would like to know what I should do first (try to find ways to make new, custom Power Suit upgrades, change rooms, etc.). I just want to start easy, then work my way up eventually. Thanks in advance.

Is it better to insert blocks via ASM than inserting them using BlockTool? Every time I insert a new custom block, I use BlockTool, but I've grown to hate it somewhat, seeing as one of the blocks I inserted is now malfunctioning... So, would ASM prevent that sort of thing happening, or does it not matter?
