Hey it was worth a shot. I didn't have anything better to do. I'm sure there are a few people out there that will find these codes interesting. Depending on how well these codes were accepted in general, I was going to make a Series #2 in the future, but now those plans have been scrapped.  |

| You know how in The Legend of Zelda, when you finally get the Bow and Arrow and use it, you find out that each time you use it, it takes away 1 Ruppee?
Well...... Mario grabs the fire flower. He is now Fire Mario. Each time he shoots a fireball, he loses 1 coin. Now what happens when you run of of coins? You lose the powerup! Just one of those unique SMB3 ideas I came up with a long time ago. (edited by Rockman on 05-11-06 05:45 PM) |

No, this just applies to Fire Mario. If you have 0 coins and you get the fire flower, you will still get the powerup, but you will only be able to shoot once, and then you will lose the powerup again, unless of course you gather some coins.  |

| peter_ac, you're right, I didn't think about it, but I don't see it as a problem. Once it goes past 99 coins and returns to 0, Mario will still be Fire Mario. The thing is, if he shoots at 0 coins, he loses the powerup. It just forces you to think a little more, making it different from the original game, which is what the purpose of the ASM hack was.
optomon, what I did is found the address that indicates when Mario is shooting and when Mario is not shooting (0 and 1). If it is 0, that means Mario isn't shooting any projectiles. If is is 1, then he is. So, I make Mario Fire Mario, set a breakpoint onto that address, and shoot a fireball. The debugger will snap. I go and find some free space nearby, make note of it, then go back to the PC. Make note of the STA, then overwrite it with a JSR. This JSR (Jump to Sub Routine) will take me to the free space, where I will use the STA, and then do a bunch of comparisons: - Is Mario Fire Mario? (This is important, as Hammer Mario can shoot projectiles too. I just want this for Fire Mario) - Is Coins = 0? To do comparisons and see if things are true or false, you use the opcodes CMP (Compare), BEQ (Branch on Result Zero), BNE (Branch on Result Non-Zero). And there are lots of other opcodes you use too. That is what ASM hacking is all about. |

I changed the bytes that display the 2 goal card boxes, yet the centers still remain. I tried figuring out what is keeping them there, but so far no luck. I do know that there are a couple lines of code that switch the graphics being displayed for the status bar, and when you open/close the item side, the goal cards are displayed completely again. I'm guessing that I'm going to have to do something with the PPU Buffer, but I can't understand it at all. Any help I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Thank you JaSp. I'm still having trouble when you flip the item bar on the map screen, the goal card boxes come back again. But, this is what I'm half done with:

| I have been in a depression for about a month now. And it kind of started when this girl at my job came to overnights. I met her and talked to her a few times when she was working the day shift, but then I didn't see her very much, and thought that she just quit. Then, all of sudden, she works overnights now. I'll try to keep this a short as possible. I'm attracted to her, in some way. I don't know what is, but she has done something to me that I can't get my mind off of her. After a few days of having this feeling, I thought that maybe its just because I finally know what love feels like. I don't know what to do. I'm hurting really badly, because I don't have any friends. I am lonely as hell. I haven't had any friends in about 10 years. I have been anti-social, and liked being alone, but now I'm really taking a beating. I can't get her to notice me. I know there are a few things about her that we have in common. She is more extrovert though. I'm introvert. She likes to party, meanwhile I'm the type of person who never cared to be in a crowd, always keeps to himself. I don't know what to do. I know she has a Myspace. I know it would be so much easier for me to just tell her how I feel over the internet, because obviously I can't do it at my job.
One week later... I have been showing a negative attitude at work, and I have this feeling that she has taken notice to it. I feel like I'm screwing this up each step I go. How pathetic is it that I am attracted to her in some way, yet I try to act like I don't even notice her, and get angry because I'm merely angry at myself for being so stupid. She is the main reason I'm still there at my job. I have really felt like quiting it, despite the fact that I got benefits from it now. I think I might need to see a therapist on this issue. I don't have any friends I could talk to about this. If you guys have any advice, please feel free to post it here. And, thank you. |

| It sounds like an alright idea when I think about it, but it would just be very awkward. Yes, she would know then, but I feel like that maybe I couldn't handle that pressure afterwards. But when I think of the bigger picture, yes at least she would know. But another problem is that I'm dry. What is it about me that she could possibly like? I know it would come to that. I have been alone for all of these years. The only thing I know are computers. I think about how I would talk about my past when I'm older. There is nothing unique about my past. I'm too different from everyone else. To put it simply; I just exist. I have nothing to lose. I live at home, I have this one job, my only interests are computers, ROM hacking, movies, game development. I go one day at a time. But I guess if I have nothing to lose, I could just go for it and write her a letter. This is definately hard but interesting. Thank you Karadur. I appreciate your support. | |||

| Thank you Karadur. I appreciate it. I already decided on what I'm going to do. I just got done typing up a note, and I'm going to try to put it in her locker tonight. I think I did a good job with the note, so I'm not worried about that. If I can't put the note in her locker, then I'm just going to give it to her in person. At least what I have to say is already there on that note. I don't care what anyone else at my job thinks. I'm doing this for me, and possibly for her too. If she is lonely like me, then maybe this is the start at making both of us happy. I will definately let you know how this goes. |

I'm not going to give up on her. Even though giving up is such an easy thing to do, and the way I was feeling last night I felt like it. I don't want to be alone for the rest of my life. I have to at least make an attempt. I feel like in a way I might have screwed up, but if I go and talk to her, tell her how I feel 100% honestly, maybe things will look up. This is just very difficult, since I never went through anything like this before in my life. I don't want to look back and regret not doing this. I have too many regrets as it is. Is it really possible to go from being introvert for 10 years of your life, to being someone who is extrovert? Perhaps I should do some research on this. (edited by Rockman on 05-12-06 06:15 PM) |

| I just got done doing some searching, but I can't find an answer to my question.
Are companies allowed to hire a relative of yours? For example, you work at your job, and your brother/sister wants to work there too. Now, the reason I'm asking is, if they are indeed allowed to, then what if you are against it? Okay, here's whats bothering me. I'll just come out and say it. Not saying that she is, but what if my sister ever decided that she wanted to work at my job? But, I don't get along with her. Now my sister can just bad mouth me to all of my co-workers, who are my friends. Is this allowed or not? Or does it depend on the company? This kid at my job was able to work there with his mother. She was there first though. Now, wouldn't they have to ask her if she is okay with it? They can't just go ahead and hire him right? |

Me and my sister can get along, but she worked at my job she would just tell all of my co-workers that I'm really this and that. Some ideas for the green coins: You have to collect a certain amount to be able to play special levels. Or, perhaps you could do something with the Versus mode. The name of your hack is "Luigi vs. Mario", so maybe getting the Green Coins could unlock the Versus Mode, or allow you to do special things in the Versus mode. Or, the more green coins you collect, the more hints you will receive throughout the game. Or, the more green coins you collect, allows you to hold more items in your item box. So, start the game only being allowed to hold a certain amount of items. The more green coins you get, the more items you can hold in your item box. Design a special title screen, so once you beat the game and get all the green coins, the title screen will be different (like in Mario Kart 64). Now, I don't know if I can inspire you, but a long time ago, I had a brilliant idea for a new SMB3 hack, but I didn't know how to do it. But, since I don't really ROM hack that much anymore, and you would definately have an easier time with it, allow me to share this idea. This is what I wanted to do: Every play Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater? Well, I thought of a "Camoflauge" idea. You know the platforms in the backgrounds of levels? Blue, White (which if you hold down, you can fall through it), and the other colors? Well, the idea I thought of, is that you could change the color of Mario's suit. If you stand behind a platform that matches Mario's color, the enemies will turn the other way. However, if you are not the same color, the enemy will approach like normally. Pretty cool huh? I always wanted to do that hack, but I didn't have the experience. That would be awesome if you could do a seperate SMB3 hack just for this. Doesn't even have to be big if you don't want it to be. I was thinking you could either change Mario's colors by pressing select, or by other means, such as walking through the door, a P-switch, or even powerup. Stealth Mario! Mario Gear Solid!

| DahrkDaiz, if you have a free background tile, or if you can create one, I wonder how a leaf background would look...
A darker-green leaf background, that would create the illusion that he really is in a jungle. Just a thought. Give it a shot to see how it goes. If it doesn't look good, then, you don't have to use it. But something tells me it would look good. (edited by Rockman on 07-10-06 02:47 PM) |

| I was just wondering if you had a purpose for the dimensional doors (the doors that switch you from the normal size world to giant size world)? If you don't, here's another idea for you.
If you include a door in some levels, when you go through it, you can switch between Mario and Luigi. Would make levels even more interesting, as you would need to use a certain character to accomplish certain tasks within the level in order to beat it. |

| I was inspired by the upcoming game, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops.
I'm having a little fun with Final Fantasy. If you know me, then you know I lose interest quickly, and that my hacks don't get very far. But, like I said I'm having a little fun with this, that's all. What I wanted to do is like in MGS: Portable Ops, you can choose 4 characters, like Big Boss, Ocelot, Eva, FOXHOUND Soldier, etc. And what you do, is fight on the battlefield! You are in enemy territory, but you must survive! Hack Title: METAL GEAR SOLID: LOYALTY (working title) 
Those other 3 are temporary, hence the names "Temp". 
Big Boss himself! I want to turn the inventory screen into the Codec screen, and there lots of other things too. These are plans. Will they happen, probably not. I am going to have fun with this though, yes. I would like to do a little ASM hacking to, to make things even more interesting. |
