No, I remember that it was first asked if it was a series of tubes, then something else (which got a yes answer), then a big truck, which kinda confused me. Oh well. I guess it doesn't matter.

Why am I inching my way up the ACS? That's a bad thing! I don't like going on posting sprees, especially when I don't even know it!

Still, it doesn't look like anyone else is going to hold 1st place now...

I didn't misunderstand you- I knew what you meant. (And I know that finding that doesn't make me any smarter- I'm not an idiot, you know.) But... Can someone tell me what this "happy hour" thing is? XD

Eh, I'll just have move them around. The way I see it, I'd better get this GFX done so I don't have to worry about it later, so I'll go ahead and do that. Besides, it didn't take me as long as I thought it would MAKING the GFX. It's lining the tiles up correctly that's the hard part. O_o

Edit: Hurray. Only a few tiles needed to be fixed, and now that I'm able to use them through Tileset Specific Objects, they work. Thanks for your... encouragement. XD

Exactly why are there moderators that don't seem to have moderating powers over any forums? (I mean according to the list of moderators for each forum, not by if one truly moderates a forum or not.) This has been bugging me for a little while, and I'd really like to know why.

Posted on 12-17-06 05:10 PM, in ASM hacks / Custom Blocks / Custom Sprites Requests Link
Eh, whatever. I'm here for another request...

I want a block that acts like a Yoshi coin (in the sense that it goes towards the Yoshi Coin/No Yoshi Coin blocks), but instead of increasing your Yoshi Coin counter and giving you a 1-Up when you collect 5 or more of them, it simply increases your Coin counter by 1, like a normal coin. Also, exactly how possible would it be to make the Silver Coin be a custom sprite so you can actually use it as a sprite? (I've noticed that the Silver Coin is actually the Moving Coin sprite (Sprite 21), but modified by the game to give you increasing points as you collect them, and once you get to 8000 points, you get 2-Ups for each coin you grab, and it uses a different Palette.) Plus, could one modify that sprite to be stationary, NOT give you an increasing amount of points (thus not giving you extra lives), and/or work with a custom block so you can pass that block when you grab X number of said coins (not to mention not resetting after you grab them, like a Yoshi Coin). (Yes, I'm still going for my "Grab 5 Silver Coins to continue" idea. Who cares? I've got plenty of ideas one could try in order to make my plans work! See, I know that there are blocks that let you pass if you defeat a certain number of enemies without touching the ground even once, so that means that blocks CAN be affected by sprites being removed, right?)

Also, as a little precaution for me, exactly WHAT does one need to do in order to make a custom sprite?

I wouldn't know- I don't have one. (And the first person who makes fun of me will feel the wrath of Dr. Wily, evil scientist extraordinaire! ) I want one, though, but seeing as we can't find or afford one (yet), I have a VERY low chance of getting one this year (though someone else in my family MIGHT get me one for Christmas. Speaking of which, Dr. Wily will take control of this board at exactly 12:00:00 on Dec. 25 if you all expect me to be here that day- I refuse to get on that day, which is very odd for me! ).

With a behavior like that, it's no wonder you wouldn't be allowed on IRC. In fact, to be frank, I'm quite surprised you're even allowed to roam the boards themselves.

I meant my PARENTS wouldn't allow it (this computer has a lot of programs on it anyways, and the last I heard, I needed a certain program to get on, which would obviously take too much space on our computer. And by the way, I'm like that A LOT. I'm a crazy guy, so what can you expect (Though "guy" isn't exactly the right word- I'm only 15, after all. Still, it brings up the question of why I have yet to act like most teenagers do, what with their desire to break things and wanting girlfriends and that sort of stuff. I don't even WANT a girlfriend. ...Especially not after I was forced to have one once... It was one of the only times I can remember where people actually wanted to play with me a lot... )? Ah well, I'm not ALWAYS like that- Just only when I see threads whose sole purpose is to be RANDOM. I like being random. Hey, everyone needs to be random every now and again. (I'll stop, though.)

What kind of things are you guys all looking forward to in the coming year of 2007? The Y2K Bug's revenge? Just kidding. Me, I'm looking forward to the release of that new Kirby game supposedly coming out on the GameCube (so far, no one knows when it's coming out, what it's called, or even what the story is. The one thing we DO know... IS THAT IT WILL BE VERY MUCH LIKE KIRBY SUPER STAR, ONLY 3-D. By that, I mean with the familiar helpers from Kirby Super Star, not all the game modes. But that may turn out to be true... ). It looks SO cool!

Not everyone has a Wii. I don't have one. In fact, I purposefully went out of my way just to get the number of posts up.

We're doing better today, though. Slightly better. What we need is a doomclock. Something out of Speed, perhaps. Say, "if the board goes slower than 500 posts a day, it will explode". That'll convince 'em to post.

Speaking of which, have you noticed that I'm right behind you in posts for today? I find that hard to believe. Unless, of course, the board isn't active at all today. I'll soon find out.

Edit: Well, darn it. NO MATTER WHAT FORM I CHOOSE, THE POST COUNT IS STILL MESSED UP! I thought it'd be fixed for the ASC form, but it wasn't. How in the world does Colin know exactly how many posts were made that day by each person?? O_o

Yeesh... This thing just came up a few seconds ago. I was editing the colors of a tile in YY-CHR. I would save it, then insert the file back into my hack (It's an ExGFX file, by the way), but... FOR SOME REASON, THE PIXELS I CHANGED KEEP REVERTING BACK TO THEIR ORIGINAL COLORS!!! I'm REALLY mad right now, because I don't see why YY-CHR won't save my changes. I keep clicking on the save button. I click on Save under the File menu. I EVEN CHOOSE SAVE AS, AND IT STILL WON'T SAVE MY CHANGES!! This is REALLY bugging me, so I need to be able to fix this ASAP. Does anyone know what in the world is going on?!

First off, I was editing the Doomship GFX to fit the SMB3 palettes. Second, I was editing the TILES in YY-CHR.

1: Yes, I did that. No change seen whatsoever.
2: I already told you, I did it THREE DIFFERENT WAYS. That's what happens when you don't read someone's post all the way through....
3: Wait, what? What in the world do you mean?

And for the record, AFTER SAVING IN YY-CHR, IF I CLOSE THE PROGRAM, OPEN IT AGAIN, AND CHOOSE THE SAME EXGFX FILE, THE TILES WILL REVERT BACK TO WHAT THEY WERE LIKE BEFORE I CHANGED THEM! Saving is broken now! NOTHING I TRY HAS WORKED. I need a solution, or I'm going to have a tile that has a little bit of gray in the bottom-right corner. Oh, just so you know, it's that cannon seen on the Airships in SMB3. (I'm using the shooters from SpriteTool along with ExGFX to make an actual Cannon that shoots cannonballs. )

Edit: Wow, I can't believe that actually worked. O_o Thanks for reminding me that I CAN save my changes in the 8x8 Tile Editor! XD

Er, why?

And all you have to do is click on chat, select a server (which doesn't matter), and wait. If you can point and click twice, you can join the channel.

No program required? *wants to get on chat more* I thought it'd be harder than that to get in... Hmm... There must be a catch... (If you're expecting me to make a joke about that, forget it. )

Ugh.... Your levels are a bit bland. Every single level in your first world has Water. Most levels are basically a run through a level with a low tide. Not fun at all. Mix it up a bit. Plus, there's a bonus area in almost every level, and going into them allows you to gain way too many lives, because they're packed with coins! There must be about 100 of them in the one in the first level! Each of your levels in World 1 ends the EXACT SAME WAY- With a level that has a little "pool" of water and a goal post. I never reuse goals. Why do you reuse goals like that for every single level in World 1? You also need to make things a little bit harder- Normally, I can't get through a world without losing at least one life, but here, I DIDN'T LOSE A SINGLE LIFE. Call me a good player, but that's not why I was able to clear World 1 so easily and so quickly- It's because you make enemies extremely easy to avoid. Throw in some cool stuff here and there, like some generators where you least expect them, or something! Castle 1 was very short. I think you could've made that level a bit longer and harder, especially at the end. There was only like 2 rooms in the whole castle you could get to without a Cape, and the last room has nothing but Dry Bones. Everyone knows how to avoid them. Some Thwomps would be nice. All in all, World 1 was nice, but I fear World 2. Oh well. Nice hack. By the way, where did you get that Yoshi's Island ExGFX?

Meh, yeah, my first world is too easy unfortunately.

The end part of my first world's levels have water because if I used a goal post in an area with a tide, the tide would vanish (the clearing of the level is on Layer 3 I think). I never would want that, so I put pools of water to symbolize the first world's theme.

I don't think that justifies NOT using a seperate end section for each level. I can understand not wanting to use Goals on level numbers using tides, but not even THAT justifies using the exact same level for the goal for each level in World 1. The least you could do is make each end area different. It doesn't matter if it fits the world's theme or not. That doesn't matter at the end of a World. What DOES matter is if it's consistent with the level. You wouldn't exactly put the goal in a cavern if your level is sky-themed. That's just not right. Water would be okay, as long as it still looks like the sky. My point is, don't just throw things in just to make one tiny part of a level be consistant with the world itself. You made the end of every level extremely boring that way. Plus, since I knew what was coming at the end of each level, I was bored with ALL the levels. You don't exactly want the player to know what to expect at the end of a level until they play through that level, not a previous level. That just makes it boring and monotonous. And trust me, NO ONE likes monotonous. O_o

As others have said, the first world is repetitive, easy, and extremely laggy.

The second world gets slightly better. Some of your puzzles are fairly clever. It seems like you've forgotten to enable some exits or something, though. In the underground level Koopwood Forest 3, there's a puzzle involving Goomba blocks, a P-Switch, and a blue shell. I fly Yoshi to the horizontal pipe with the question block bridge, and it won't let me enter. No matter, the normal exit takes me to the Fortress, where I run into this:

I'm not allowed to enter this SMB3 pipe, and it would appear to be the only way to go on. Demo over, I guess.

The readme mentions Luigi-Only blocks being placed where the SMB3 pipes are. I'm guessing that combo made a Luigi-Only SMB3 Pipe, which is obviously what you found. Now I want to quit what I'm doing and play this some more.
