Well, the Sprite Tool readme says to insert the block wherever you want, then open up the asm file in Notepad and edit the number to the Map16 location of the block in hex. I have it at E3B, so shouldn't I replace what WAS there with $0E3B? Or what?

Edit: I figured out the problem. Changing the ASM file does NOTHING- The Donut Block is still hardcoded to Map16 Tile 0x534. If you placed the Donut Block custom block somewhere else, you can simply place the GFX there and tell the game to make it act like whatever Map16 tile you set the block to in BlockTool. Simple as that.

Posted on 12-13-06 07:07 PM, in Raccoon Mario Patch questions Link
I want to replace Caped Mario with Raccoon Mario in my hack, but... Before inserting the GFX, I decided to test the physics of Raccoon Mario. Much to my dismay, he acts exactly like Caped Mario, except he instead doesn't "glide" with his Cape. I wish to have a TRUE Raccoon Mario, complete with flying that only happens when you repeatedly tap the jump button, and that you have to tap the jump button to slowly decend, instead of HOLDING the jump button. Basically, whatever Caped Mario can do by holding down B, I want Raccoon Mario to do by REPEATEDLY TAPPING B. Before I go on some wild journey to try and do that, let me ask this simple, yet obvious, question:

Is this even possible??

Thank you for your time and patience. (I'd have inserted the GFX before testing it, but the GFX is SUPER MARIO WORLD GFX, and I'm using SMB3 GFX. XD)

Edit: Onoez.... Now I'VE lost my mind! XD I've been playing Mega Man 4 and Mega Man 5 (Game Boy) since yesterday. Well, I'm a big Mega Man fan, so... Let me just say this real quick-like: I recently started a "Cosmoship" level (SPACESHIP?! XD), one that will be in my Rainbow Road world. I want it to be the very last level in my hack, but I may not do that. We'll see. Well, last night I came up with an idea. It just now spawned this:

O_o Worse yet, for testing, I called the level "OMG WILY SHIP". XD I've REALLY gone overboard this time!! Wily's taken over the Mushroom Kingdom, not to mention MY MIND!!! Oh yeah, by the way... THOSE WILY INSIGNIAS WILL BE PERMANENT! :o Does this mean that you'll face off against Dr. Wily at the end of this hack instead of Bowser? You'll just have to wait and see!!!

Edit2: Well, I'm *finally* started on the slope tiles for my Rainbow Road GFX. Actually, I'm done with them (I'm only doing Normal Slope and Steep Slope, by the way). All I'm doing now is making those "connector tiles". I'm almost done making those, but... Man, it WILL be hard for me to release these if I choose to. I'm having to squeeze each 8x8 tile into unused spots because the tiles are so big! O_o Plus, in order to make each tile fit, I've had to move some of the tiles (including the tiles that take up the entirety of a single 8x8 tile, which in turn make up the 16x16 tile that you see between each "connector piece") to the location where the background is located!! To prevent these tiles from interfering with some backgrounds, these tiles are found in a new ExGFX file. But... I made another copy of that ExGFX file for the "Cosmoship" interior BG. Since these slope pieces are to be put at FG3, I'm going to have to copy some of them to that file. Oh well. It's not that big of a deal.

...Okay, NOW I'm done with the tiles. I'll insert them now, and actually BEGIN working on Rainbow Road 1. Wish me luck! ...Oh yeah, I'll show a few screens soon.

Care to link me to the SPVertical patch so I can figure this out?

Well, you can get it along with MikeyK's SMB3 Pipes at SMWCentral. They're in the exact same zipped folder... I'll try uploading the patch itself later on Geocities (I already have a Yahoo.com account, so it's easier for me to do it that way than to find a different server to host it on where you'd have to click a lot of links just to download ONE LITTLE FILE.), okay?

CAN I USE THIS?!

Besides Super Metroid, Metroid: Zero Mission was my all-time favorite Metroid game (despite being one of the first ones I ever played. XD). I'll check it out and see if I like it...

Edit: In case you can't tell, I decided to use it. Yay! But... Man, there's a big ole white area in the border between the "Brinstar Background" part and the "Brinstar Rock" part. Oh, by the way, think you could do maybe Ridley's Lair, Tourian, the Space Pirate Mothership, or the Chozo Ruins (MZM, of course) for me? *refuses to actually beg*

Where do I put the code for a layout? Is it Post Background or Post Footer?

(I want to check out that MZM Layout code that Raccoon Sam posted, if it matters to you.)

Thanks in advance!

I believe it's post backgroung AND post footer or whatever, let me check...

It's background and signature. I'm 99.999% sure.

Can't be- I tried it, but it kinda broke some tables... So I took it out ASAP so I wouldn't cause anyone any grief. Oh well. So much for that...

Unfortunately, I can't tell which piece goes where. NOTHING WORKS. Well, the only thing I haven't tried is putting the entire header code in the Post Header....

Edit: There! I think that worked... I hope it worked...

I SPY...
WITH MY
LITTLE EYE...

The Zelda boss known as Facade! XD That was a fun boss, though VERY easy to beat. It didn't do LA's Level 6 justice (Facade was the boss of Level 6- Face Shrine in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, if anyone is wondering. To beat him, all you had to do was make bombs blow up on his face when he appeared. Too easy. About 3 or 4 Bombs is all it takes to beat that boss... ). He could've done with another form or something... Anyways, nice layout... I guess...

; I still would like that white area where the Brinstar Background and Brinstar Rocks meet. In fact, how about switching the locations of the two? Meaning, the post is set on the background, and is surrounded by the rocks? I think that'd look better... (But I still like the Chozo Ruins and Tourian better than Brinstar. XD)

(Actually, I'd LIKE having threads with random title colors. It's like a little Christmas Present- You never know what you're going to get until you see it! )

If the RPG system was ever made/completed, exactly what do you think it'd be like? (Yes, this IS a serious question.)

Thanks, I guess... But see, that wasn't my question. (I'm still waiting for an answer, by the way.) I have NO idea why you misunderstood me. (And yes, I know I mentioned the Raccoon Mario GFX in Pac's patch was SMW-styled, but that didn't mean I needed help on it... )

By the way, if you're going to do that, why not help others out and make a patch that already has Raccoon Mario in it? Or at least submit the GFX as GFX32.bin instead of AllGFX.bin...

I like your overworld, but like SNN said, I'd change the Castle to something else. Maybe the pipe from the overworld in SMB3? It'd be fat enough that it might be able to work.

Levels look fun, and I love the atmosphere on the Rainbow Road and Wily levels.

Although I don't know how to make a GIF out of a program either, however, if you use SNES9X you could go to File -> Record AVI and make a really short AVI at low quality and upload it somewhere. I bet someone else has a better idea, but like I said, I don't know how to do the .GIF recording thing I see people doing around here occasionally.

Looking good though, keep it up.

Thanks!

I thought of replacing the Castle with a Pipe, but I figured it wouldn't look right when the time came to destroy it. Then again, why would Mario destroy a castle after beating the boss inside? Maybe I WILL make it a pipe. Or, maybe I'll make it a normal level and you won't know when you've reached the Boss level until you do.

I use ZSNES, and I only use Snes9x only when it's the only emulator I can play a hack on (Like Super Metroid: Redesign), so no thank you.

Please, don't call that ship a Wily level- Call it a Cosmoship level (Get it? Cosmos= Space, so that word means Spaceship! XD) instead!

Posted on 12-16-06 02:48 PM, in Line Guides Link
I want to use the Line Guides in one of my levels, but because of the ExGFX I'm using, I can't use them directly from the Tileset Specific Objects. I either have to find the tiles in Map16 and make the new tiles act like those tiles, or use one of the Rope tilesets and use Map16 to copy my new tiles onto the old ones. The only problem is, this one level isn't the only one I want to use Line-Guided object on, and for some reason, simply using them directly from Map16 makes them useless. Do the line guides only work the the tileset is any of the Rope settings, or do I actually have to place them from Tileset Specific Objects to work? On that note, is there a way to make Map16 page 0x0 be Tileset-specific (meaning that what I do on one level in a certain tileset won't affect another level using a different tileset). I REALLY don't want to have to move a lot of tiles just so I can use the lines correctly, but I will if I have to.
