Only one person did the hot dog challenge (which was to finish the package, and they failed). I have no idea if they cooked them or not, but I'm betting they didn't. As far as health hazards go, the mayo, Crisco, and hot sauce are probably about equal. They won't do any real damage to you, but they might make you barf (or at least be uncomfortable).

The old standby of drinking a gallon of milk in an hour came up every now and then, but my friend never participated because he knew that it's generally not possible. Unless you have a ginormous stomach capacity, there's no way you can digest the milk quickly enough.

Because you're only allowed to like something if everyone else does. Didn't you get the memo?

In all seriousness, there's a basic human instinct to win that often manifests itself in silly and pointless ways, and this is one of them. If you like the most popular console, you're on the winning team. Conversely, if your favorite console isn't doing as well in sales, you lose. I can't find a source for this, but I read a while ago that it has been demonstrated that people will buy the #1 brand of some product just because it is #1. If this is the case, it would not surprise me at all.

I've happily played the hell out of so many games over the years that it's difficult to pick just five.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Dynasty Warriors 5
Dragon Warrior III
Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando
Zelda: Ocarina of Time

I used to be squishy and weak, and then I improved my diet and took up weight lifting. Now I have above average muscle mass and below average bodyfat, and my body type is what people generally consider to be "athletic-looking". My workout routines always include challenging resistance training, whether it be weight lifting or tough calisthenics. I'm currently working on dropping some bodyfat (I want to see how lean I can get without going batty), so I'm doing more cardio than usual.

The exact days of the week may be fudged a bit in either direction (for instance, I might do the first workout on Sunday instead of Monday), but the general structure of each week is the same.

Monday - Round and Round, cardio

Wednesday - 5x5 squat pyramid (working up to a 5-rep max over 5 sets, increasing the weight for the next workout if you got all 5 reps at the top weight in one go), cardio

Friday - Round and Round, cardio

One of my goals is to be able to complete the Round and Round workout with no broken sets. The best I've ever done in that regard is gotten through the round of 7 without stopping for rest. I still work past the point where I need to take breaks (which are always in the yoga and funky pushup sets), and I'm currently adding more and more of the round of 9. I can't handle long sets of chin-ups yet, but I can do a total of about 11 in each workout.

Cardio consists of getting on the elliptical machine and hauling ass for 1.5 to 2 miles. Sometimes it's more steady-state, sometimes I do interval sprints, but in any case, I try to match or beat the paces I've set at previous workouts, and if I'm still feeling energetic, I'll add a small amount of distance. I push myself pretty hard but never to the point of getting dizzy or puking.

Also, I'm 5'8" and 150-155 pounds, but I'm more concerned with my bodyfat percentage than my scale weight. I haven't actually gotten that measured, but I can tell when it drops because I have more muscle definition. I keep track of my body measurements, too. My hip size is a good indicator of whether I've gained or lost bodyfat.

Why my friend Josh will always be a hero in my book...

At a party that his frat was throwing, Josh noticed some asshat putting roofies in a girl's drink. Asshat was confronted, and he denied it. Josh made Asshat consume the drugged drink, and unsurprisingly, Asshat soon became unconscious. Josh and some of his frat brothers chucked Asshat out the first floor window into the yard, removed his pants and shoes and threw them over the telephone wires, wrote RAPIST on his forehead with Magic Marker, and just left him there. The end.

AWWWWWWWW

Congrats on the new kitty! We won't be adding any more animals to our household for quite a while. Chester and Cookie give us all the feline attention, cuddles, and assorted pathetic vocalizations that we can handle. They're four years old, and they still think they're kittens.

Awesome. Ohio should buy a clue from them. I-70 is wide, flat, straight, and perfectly safe to drive at speeds near 80 when the weather is OK, but the speed limit is 65, and I've been told that Ohio state police are incredibly anal about speeding, as in you'll get pulled over if you're going five miles over the limit. Needless to say, driving across Ohio is boring and sucky.

Pennsylvania has its share of 65 mph roads that can support higher speeds (e.g. I-80), but because traffic on said roads is typically 10-15 miles over the limit, the state police generally seem to leave people alone unless they're really flying or driving like an asshole. The only speed bait road I'm familiar with is a brand new highway I currently commute over. It's wide and relatively flat and safe to drive fast on...and it's 55 mph and heavily camped by state troopers. Feh. At least I have only five more days of that commute left.

Hell yeah. And now for a true tale of office stupidity.

At a certain company, there's a certain manager who is known for being an incompetent buffoon. We'll call him Clippy because he bugs people about pointless bullshit when they're trying to get work done, and when they need help, he's useless. At any rate, Clippy wanted to hire a database administrator. The head of the systems administration department gave the candidate a competency exam, which they failed miserably. Clippy managed to go over their head and get the candidate hired anyway.

To make a long story short, the database admin rm -rf'ed the wrong terminal. Which BALEETED a production database, thereby causing the loss of half a day's worth of customer data. He ultimately got fired for not learning anything.

No way. I appreciate a decent challenge, but I don't have any fun when the game is too difficult for me. I'll play hard mode when normal is too easy (and therefore boring), but I have no desire to do so by default. There's a range along the difficulty curve where you're challenged enough that proceeding involves effort, but you're not getting constantly pounded into the ground, and that's where I like to play. I have to feel that I'm making progress, otherwise the gaming experience is a chore. Also, constantly doing things over and only proceeding a tiny amount each time (if you even proceed at all) is an inefficient way for me to learn to improve my skills at a game. It's certainly possible to get good at games this way - after all, we had no other recourse back in the days of games that took a while to beat mainly due to XTREEEEEME difficulty. I'm sure SOMEONE finished Ikari Warriors without the ABBA code, and I know that Deadly Towers can be beaten without cheats because Emptyeye did it. But I was never into that sort of gameplay then, and things haven't changed.

NSNick - That's good to know. Now I won't be quite so paranoid when going to visit people in Columbus.

The cops along that speed trap highway near my house are almost always out in plain sight. Sometimes I've seen them hiding on the median strip near the walls around the gaps in the strip where the road is a bridge on each side. You can't see them ahead of time when they do that, so for a while, I've been in the habit of slowing down when I come up to the end of each bridge. Luckily the one time I blew past one of these hidden troopers, they didn't care that I was doing 65.

I think I saw Amanda, but I was running outside for a photoshoot with a Deathcom Multimedia photographer, so I was like DEH CONFUSED. Sorry about that!

I put a con report in my LJ. If you don't want to read all of that, here's the really brief synopsis.

Good stuff - Dynasty Warriors cosplay (we wound up getting a private photoshoot as mentioned above), chatting with nifty artists, playing a silly taiko drum game, Katie Bair's wig panel

Bad stuff - Looooong prereg line, getting a sunburn due to being an idjit and forgetting my sunblock, the Silent Hill panel (which managed to be largely pointless no matter whether you were a n00b or a fan), the aches and pains that naturally come along with wearing a heavy, unbalanced wig, having the elastic pop off my knee guards and no way to jury-rig them so I could at least wear them somehow

And the first picture of myself I found is on this page. Third pic down with the gold claws, purple armor, black ponytail, and OMGFLOOF.
