Go to a level you won't use. Activate Super GFX Bypass and make the level use the overworld graphics files. Then, edit the graphics in the 8x8 editor.
By the way. I find YY-CHR much more user friendly than LM's editor. Oh, well. I guess we all have different opinions. |

When entering the level, causing the death, do you enter through a secondary or main entrance? If secondary, you did set the FG int pos in the secondary exit window, not the main entrance window, right? (edited by Smallhacker on 04-28-06 05:29 PM) |

I'm Smallhacker, a SMW Hacker with skills... above average. I've created pretty many (although some nearly useless) programs for editing SMW.
Boom.dk and I created SMW Central. (He coded the site, I added data.) 1.What draws you to the ROM hacking community? I'm very interested in math and programming, so I'm curious about how the SNES and the games works and interacts with each other. Also, it helps me gain experience and knowledge about ASM programming. 2. Do you think playing/modifying hacked ROMs should be more user friendly? Playing ROMs is pretty much as user friendly as it can get without breaking any laws. However, hacking ROMs should be LESS user friendly. In my honest opinion, there's too many n00bs that are dependant on all these tools created for increased user friendlyness. If those tools didn't exist, they would have no ability to hack a ROM due to their lack of knowledge about how computers works at the processor level and how code and data are stored. Those people does actually not deserve to be called ROM Hackers, since the term "Hacker" means a person skilled at computer hardware and/or software, which I wouldn't call these persons. *Phew* ...did I say that out loud? 3.What are the advantages/disadvantages of ROM hacking vs. ripped sprites with code written from scratch? As a programmer, I know that making a game requires a huge amount of effort and time. It's easier to modify existing code to do what you want it to than to make it all from scratch. However, making it from scratch gives you full control and abiltity to do anything. The existing code may not be capable of doing certain things without rewriting big parts of it. This may be even harder than making it all from scratch. Summary: Editing is easier and faster, but programming gives less limitations. 4. Do you think there are limits to what people should be allowed to do with their games? There's one big thing I'm against when it comes to ROM Hacking, and that is to steal code, levels, graphics or other data from another person's hack (if that person is the author of those things, that is). If I make a hack and create an ÜBER PWNAGE ASM hack that makes the game reall awesome, I wouldn't like someone to steal my code and use it in their own hack. Some people say that stealing from another hack is the same thing as ripping from a commerical game, but in my opinion, it's not. 5.What do you think about the future of the ROM hacking community? It'll go downhill. With all these amazingly user friendly toys, less people gets interested in knowing how it actually works. Therefore, the amount of skilled hackers that leaves will be bigger than the amount of new skilled hackers. In the end, there'll only be a few ones left, surrounded by people bound to user friendly editors. (edited by Smallhacker on 04-28-06 06:18 PM) |

Question:
1, 2, 4, 8, 1, 3, 6, 1, 2, 5 What should the next number be? Answer: The numbers are the first digits of the 2^n sequence: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512 512*2 = 1024, which makes 1 the next number. |

Question 1: Yes, you can add more than one block to the zip (as long as they're related)
Question 2: There's no rule on the site about that, but I suggest that you give that other person credit. |

When playing a 2 player game, Mario and Luigi can't give lifes to each other. This allows one to enter destroyed castles in 2P games as well. When one of the players gets a Game Over, that player is out of the game until the other player also gets a Game Over (and the game returns to the title screen).
A lot of the code and data in the ROM seems to have been moved around. |

Originally posted by BMF54123 Actually, some of the enemies in the standard sprite graphics table have got turning animations. However, due to lack of graphics space, these animations were set to use one of the sprites' normal frames. Let's see... Shelless koopas, goombas, spineys, buzzy beetle (I think), Bob-omb, uhh... that's all I can remember, but there's probably more. It's easy to give them turning animations (assuming that you manage to free some graphics space). (edited by Smallhacker on 05-09-06 08:03 AM)

Not automatically. However, the staff member who accepts the file will probably remove the old one (if that person knows/notices that there's an earlier version, that is). |

Do it yourself, forget about it, or wait for someone to do it without you asking for it.

Seriously, though. There's a thread for requests by people who are too lazy to do stuff by themselves. (It's in the advanced ROM hacking forum). *locks* Edit by Alastor: "Yeah... It'd kinda have to be, seeing as (if I'm thinking of the right thing) those lifts don't start on their own... Seriously, you want all this ridiculous stuff, and it's quite silly. Just google an ASM tutorial and spend time learning how to program for this sort of thing. It is going to be far more productive than standing around here asking everyone to do everything for you... And it's going to be a lot less annoying to the rest of us. And if you do, maybe you'll start being productive. That'd be nice. The very least you could do is limit this to one thread; there's a stickied thread in Advanced ROM hacking for requesting this sort of thing. Don't do it here. Before further pointlessness breaks out, I'ma close this thread. If another mod wants to add something, they can reopen it, I suppose, but I don't expect that to happen. ... Haha, I didn't type that fast enough. I'll just append this to Smallhacker's post." (edited by Alastor the Stylish on 05-13-06 03:32 PM) (restricted) |

Assuming that the universe is 4-dimensional (time dimension not counted), there's an infinte, but growing, amount of parallel universes. To illustrate this, imagine that a piece of paper is a 2D world. You've got it on your table. The 2D life forms on this paper have obviously no idea that there's a third dimension. If you place a lot of different 2D dimensions on each other, no life form in any of those worlds would notice it, since they're not able to see or feel "upwards". Now, if you move one of the life forms to the paper above it, this life form, who does not know about the third dimension, would belive that he travelled to a parallel universe, but all he did was to move 0.0001 mm (or so) through a dimension unknown to him. In reality, though, our world isn't a 2D plane in a 3D space. Our world is a 3D space in a 4D hyperspace. This hyperspace contains an infinite amount of 3D spaces side by side. Measuring in the "4th direction", one would find that our world is 1/Infinity [length unit] high. If we travelled 1/Infinity [length unit] through the 4th dimension, what would it be like? Well... I'm too lazy to make images, which makes it hard to describe, but the world itself would be almost exactly the same. (The world itself, not it's life forms.) The futher way from our own world we travelled, the more different it would be. The life (if there is any) would most likely have evolved differently (The chance of life evolving in the same way as in our world is 1/Infinity). I said "there's an infinte, but growing, amount of parallel universes" earlier. According to the Big Bang theory, the universe expands. If the universe is 4D, then it must expand through the 4th dimension as well. The smallest possible length is 1/Infinity [length unit]. If we take 1/Infinity [length unit] long steps through the 4th dimension, we would have to pass through an infinite amount of 3D spaces to reach the edge. Therefore, there's an infinte, but growing, amount of parallel universes. ZOMG i HAS RUN AL TEH FUUUUUUUUN (((((((((((

The item box uses the primary level number (the number of the level you entered from the OW). If you change this number during a level, the item box text will change. However, if I recall correctly, this may mess up some things (level end?). Also, if you try to press Start + Select, it'll check the level number you changed to instead of the one you're in. |
