I dunno... I watched it as a kid, and wish there were more shows like that. Comedy is good, but watching too much of it can turn you into a mindless dolt, I think. I thought it was a pretty decent fantasy-esque show and not really depressing at all. As I recall it had some pretty good stories. If anything most children's shows are filled with rampant stupidity these days.

It also had Tom Bosley as the voice of David the Gnome which was win. I remember in later years watching happy days and being like "that's David the Gnome!"

Are you encouraging people to request hacks here? B/c that's what the title sounds like. It would be better as "Are there any hacks of [insert game]?"

I've not seen this brought up before, but I'm kind of puzzled at why links to posts in profiles don't actually point to the post, they point to the beginning of the thread. I mean if that's the way it was intended then there's no need to even have a post listing, just have "threads posted in". It's really annoying when you want to go back to a thread after a day and find where you left off and you have to go hunting. Especially in fast paced threads like the the ASC or town square/cantina.

Edit: I mean I can't imagine why you couldn't do it since I can post a link to this very post and it works.

You're talking about "Show Posts," whereas I'm talking about "List posts by this user". The difference is in the order. Show Posts will show your posts starting with your first one. The top line in "List posts by this user" is the most recent thread you posted in. And the link functionality is not there in that case. It is clearly shown in the URL

http://board.acmlm.org/thread.php?id=3466

Whereas links to posts use ?pid=xxxx

Link is left handed except when Nintendo wants to be cheap and reuse sprite animations by flipping them over a vertical axis.

Posted on 03-15-06 07:44 AM, in Walter the Farting Dog Link
I was out shopping at a Walmart type store an hour ago and was about to check out when I happened to spot a strange book in the children's section. It was "Walter the Farting Dog: Trouble at the Yard Sale." I had to open this book up and make sure it wasn't a joke or that I wasn't hallucinating. So I page through the book reading the whole thing. There was another Walter book right next to it so I read that too. All this left me wondering:

-When did people go insane and start writing children's books about farting, let along farting dogs?

-Where is the sense of karma in these books? Both storylines can be summed up as follows: Kids think farting dog is a great dog. Parents don't b/c of the farting. The father does something to cause Walter to go missing for a day or more.

In the first one I read, the father sells Walter to a bank robber disguised as a clown for $10 because he's having a hard time selling his stuff at the yard sale. He does this while the kids are getting some ice cream then promptly lies to them when they get back - saying he wandered off. He then proceeds to eat his ice cream and Walter's ice cream. Robber robs the bank using balloons filled with fart gas from the dog, then he comes back and Walter escapes from the 'fart collector.' Walter goes home leaving a trail of money then leads the cops back to the robber's house and he's lauded as a hero dog by the mayor. The dad says "this is a good dog."

In the second one, a doctor who studies animal gas disorders shows up for God knows why and gives the parents a mixture to feed the dog so he won't fart. At first it doesn't work at all but the father decides to change the proportions of the ingredients so it works better. At that point it starts working but Walter just fills up with gas and eventually floats away. (I wish having bad gas actually did this to me.) Walter flies off and runs into butter flies which have been trapped in an icy storm, and manages to squeeze out a monster fart (warm air) to free the butterflies from an icy descent. He then deflates and falls into a pond, where a ranger picks him up shortly and takes him home. Kids are please, the ranger is please, the parents are not.

I'd really like to see the father get what's coming to him. He's a villain in the books who never repents, never has anything backfire on him. Pure evil.

I haven't read the first one but here's a link to it. Notice the giant toxic gas cloud erupting from his anus. Almost every picture of this "children's" book is filled with such illustrations.

-Are there any other WTF WHY IS THIS A CHILDREN'S BOOK books out there?

discuss.

Posted on 03-15-06 08:23 AM, in I've had this mood to play a childhood game I've always loved. But I can't remember the name. Link
I've got one that will stump everyone. It's not a console game, it's a DOS dungeon crawler that was made with ascii character graphics. The best name I can recall for it was "Shrine" which may or may not have been its actual name but that's what all the older kids called it. We played it at a daycare center I went to around 2nd or 3rd grade, but all the older kids would never let us play on the computers. I only played it maybe once or twice but it seemed awesome.

It had about 20-40 levels or so. Your character was a diamont shaped character which had a whip. The whip consisted of rapidly changing '/' and '\' characters which would appear in the text slot next to you in which ever direction you were holding.

I don't remember much about the levels, but there was lava in some of them that was necessary to pass and it was very damaging.

I wish I could meet somebody from that time in my life to ask them about this but the owner of that daycare has since passed away and I have no idea where any of the people I knew there went off to. I went there about 15 years ago. any ideas?

Hrm.... I'm 99% sure that's it. The exact graphics look a little different than I had remembered but it's been years after all. I've been asking people about this for like 3 years and no one had been able to answer me, and you did it within hours of my post. Thanks 100 times over!

Now only to find out how to obtain it and play it...

Sticking in a new engine doesn't help unless you can change the actual game engine to interface with it. SMAS and SMW happen to have a sound engine that is similar enough to where it works right with both game engines.

How can you expect in depth information if you won't even tell us what game(s) you are interested in specifically? If we knew what they were, maybe somebody who's dabbled in those games would be able to provide at least some starting info. For example, I could provide you with starting info for Zelda 3 since I've been working on it for like ages. But I could tell you next to nothing about any other game's music or sounds.

Misplaced envy. Snow is fun when you're a kid and have time to roll around and play in it all day. Now it's just annoying cold crap to me. I'd rather live somewhere live and vacation somewhere cold if I wanted to ski or snowboard once in a while.

Dude, I don't know how long you've had this job but I had a job like that once. I quit it within a week. It just seemed to so pointless and was borderline harassment of the public. I just stopped showing up to work. It was a public information survey center also located as part of a college campus.

So if you can stand it longer than I did, more power to you. But there are less stressful jobs out there for comparable pay if you look around.

This is like how people set their clocks and hour and a head forward so they get up earlier. At first it works but then they get used to it. Then we'll want a 42 hour day, and so on.
