Actually, there's nothing that specifically says he can't be drawn, it's just a rule that ended up evolving. The Koran says that "[Allah is] the originator of the heavens and the earth... [there is] nothing like a likeness of Him." That ended up being interpreted to mean that since there's nothing that can be considered a likeness of Allah/Muhammad, likenesses (like drawings) were forbidden.

Granted, the general sentiment is that people shouldn't be drawing these pictures, but that's also an Islamic belief. The Danish papers may be offending them by printing the cartoons, but they also don't fall into the confines of Islamic law; it's free speech.

I think most of us can agree that this incident is being taken WAY out of proportion by everyone involved, though.

Well the whole reason behind having no images of the prophet, God, or any other prophets/people mentioned in the Quran(and the Bible and Torah for that matter) is because people will end up attaching a belief to a face rather than an idea. The Quran isn't meant to be taken literally nor does it contain all matters pertaining to religion. It doesn't matter what they looked like, it matters what they did.

The Freakin' Choco Mog?!

One of my more recent "whoa" moments was like the opening real time cinema for Metal Gear Solid 3. That whole game was like that for me, actually.

And I also felt all tingly inside when Cloud escapes the Shinra building on the motorcycle in that cinema which cued the crazy motorcycle theme.

Well if you they make a movie of MGS 1, then Sean Connery should play Revolver Ocelot, Kurt Russell as Snake(same for MGS 2 or 3), Michael Clarke Duncan as Vulcan Raven...

Yea, Igniz sucked. Just like Goenitz, Krizalid, and Zero before him. The only tolerable boss fight was with the Orochi team and Orochi himself in '97. That was actually fun. And more epic.

Yes, most definitely! I saw this site like 5 years ago but haven't gone to it in a long time. We should set something up soon. That would be most good.

OH geez...Who turned Mario into Hokuto no Ken? And I don't get the deal with all those nintendo characters in that one image or two. I remember someone in 4chan posting that image of Mario and Luigi in the frog suits, and someone replied, saying "You have the worst fucking fetish ever."

Yea, Rugal was a joke compared to some of those other bosses. My team usually sticks to the ground with some dashes and such thrown in. (I use Terry, Joe and Ryo)

So because they don't have a high Muslim population, they can make fun of us?(I'm not saying that's their justification, but it sounds like Imajin's) Because people certainly don't give a shit when people from countries with crescents and stars on their flags talk bad about their people or religion.

Yes, and it's kind of similar here, too. Jordan is not Palestine. And I'm pretty damn sure King Abdullah wouldn't dare to do something like that. The only people that would try to destroy such a holy site or others are terrorists.

Monster's awesome. If you wanna include manga as well, then read my thread about death note. Vampire Hunter D? Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust? Devilman OVA?(NOT THE TV SERIES, PLEASE!) Gundam's kind of dark. Mobile Suit Gundam, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam are my favorites. Galaxy express 999 too for that matter. Aura Battler Dunbine.

Maybe you could be a little bit more specific?

Being honest all the time makes everything easier. Politeness does not really equate politcal correctness. Being pc allows people to fit things into a nice little package and then they don't need to explore other cultures. Which is a shame.

i'm pretty sure this year's spring fling will be the furthest thing from indie rock, though, since last year turned out to be a giant mistake.

Hm, that's really WEIRD. I would think that there would be more fans at the 4th(?) best school in the US. At Rutgers last year, they had Wolf Eyes and people went nuts.

Tarale, I was expecting a more in-depth look at that title from our resident Evangelion fanatic.

Something like Monster... That's pretty unique, though. It's like the Fugitive except in 80 episodes. I honestly haven't seen anything like it. (didn't finish it yet)

Why the misogyny? Why are - according to the Quran - women mere objects for the satisfaction of men? I know this is an unfair question since upwards of eighty percent of religions are misogynistic to at least a moderate degree, but to me, Islam has always seemed to go out of it's way to say that women are infinitely inferior to men. What are your thoughts on this?

Good question. I have an answer. The whole idea of misogyny is not supported by Islam. It's just another idea that carried on because of cultures that have inhabited the lands of the said followers. To true Muslims, women are highly revered. As opposed to men, women can bring life into this world and also the role of a mother is highly respected. Without a mother, there essentially can be no family. Women are to be treated better than men, which is very difficult for people to understand. And they are also not bound to anyone financially. A woman with a job is entitled to spend her money on anything she wishes, while men are supposed to support their family monetarily. Women are not objects for the satisfaction of men. They are strong, caring, and loving people that should be considered better than men in many cases. In the Qu'ran, there are very strong female characters such as the prophet's second wife(after his first died), A'ishah(R), who was very intelligent, and even a scholar, some might say. Khadijah(R), his first wife, was also full of wisdom and was a very successful merchant. The Prophet, on the other hand, was illiterate and regretted that. Also, I'd like to mention that even though Prophet Muhammad(S) had many wives, in terms of consummation, he remained monogamous. Other wives he had married to support financially or to give them a place to live or to give them care like his one wife that had Hansen's disease(leprosy). Yea, so women are like men except have the capacity to be better.

However, people have been unable to let go the stereotypes and cultural beliefs of women in the world. The only thing is that people take extremes with certain beliefs(modesty of dress for example) and then those beliefs are carried by families, and disobeying them would mean disobeying their families. Unfortunately, as such, people are unable to exercise Islam in its true manner. After all, it is believed that nobody should be forced to be a part of Islam if they don't want to. The true way of figuring out what beliefs are right for you is to question yourself. Our only role as Muslims and conversion is to let people know the truth. As I am doing now. (Kinda went off topic)
