Posted on 10-20-06 06:25 PM, in A few ASM questions regarding Custom Blocks Link
I'm ready to try my hand at using ASM to make my own custom blocks, so I've been reading the help file in LM to see what it has to offer me in terms of how to do it. I have a few questions, though:

1: The whole "only 3 JSLs per offset" thing confuses me. Doesn't that mean you can only have 3 Blocks use the action that each offset handles and no more?
2: Does the subroutine for the Custom Blocks have a limit to how long they can be?
3: If those offsets tell the subroutine what to do when something happens (I.e., when Mario hits a block, when a Koopa Shell hits a block, etc.), how does the subroutine tell the block exactly what to do when that thing happens (I.e., the SMB3 Breakable Bricks are destroyed when hit from below or with a Koopa Shell, and when they are destroyed, they use the sound effects of Mario Spin-Jumping/Tornado-Jumping on a Turn Block, and use the GFX of them being destroyed)? That would help me.
4: Are there any other tips you guys can give me before I try, besides "Don't give up if you don't get it the first time"?

Thanks for the help!

Uhm.. no.

And I think people who apply for approval when they already have it should get their approval revoked <.<

Or not.

Okay. Just look at the approval request forum. One of the most recent approval requests is from PSlugworth. This person already had an approval form before that, and both of them seem to have the little approval thumbs-up. Something tells me it doesn't matter.

Oh. Sorry then. But still, why make another thread if one approval gets you access to both forums? (I was about to say three, but then I remembered that Pokemon Hacking was merged with ROM Hacking.)

Uhh... I said "using ASM". If I can learn how to make custom blocks with ASM, I'm giving up BlockTool completely. I don't want to use it anymore. Still, that helps me a bit. I'm sure the way BlockTool does things with Custom Blocks isn't too different from making your own with ASM. By that, I mean, instead of having to insert them using BlockTool, you insert them directly into the hack.

There is a difference.

Oh, sorry. Anyways, I want to do both. I'm sure the inserting part won't be hard (All you have to do is just make the code and set it up right and that's it, right?). It's the "making the subroutine" part I'm worried about. But you know? Thanks to you, I now know everything I need to know about those mysterious offsets BlockTool uses. I never knew it had to do with the addresses in the hack. Oh well.

Okay. Thanks! I guess now I should go back and read that ASM guide again... To refresh my memory, of course.

Is there an address I can change to prevent collecting Silver Coins from giving increasing amounts of points and essentially, giving 1-Ups? Also, is there a way to disable their moving?

I think revoking someone's approval if they apply for approval when they already have it is too harsh. Instead, here's what I think should be done:

First, if people start applying for approval when they already have it, they should simply be told in a normal post that they need not apply again. It should also be added in the rules. After a while, it should be changed to revoking approval. Basically, just let people get accustomed to the idea that one approval gets them access to all forums approval is needed for. Just be sure not to make the time between the two rule installments isn't too long- Just a few days. Maybe 3-5 is enough. Right now, I'm sure that there are people who still think that one approval gets them access only to the forums that they ask to be approved for. They shouldn't be treated with harshness. I'm sure people who aren't total n00bs would still apply for another approval, since they don't know that one approval gets them access to SMW and ROM Hacking. ....If you go with my idea, please don't expect me to help with the approvals. PLEASE. ...Thanks.

Is it possible to change what level a certain Layer 1 tile will go to? For an example, take a look at Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. For Mt. Teapot, Course 10 became Course 13 when you hit the Giant ! Block in Course 12. I want to do a similar thing- Change what level a Level Tile goes to! Maybe it's possible with ASM, maybe it's not. I just want to know.
