You have all the songs in one file? Usually they're distributed as individual .spc files. Is it a .zip or .rar file?

The help file is a very useful resource. Look under the Help menu in both the level editor and overworld editor.

My connection remains fast enough to view most pages at a good speed when I have torrents going. Unfortunately, my computer doesn't, because the 350MB of RAM Azureus eats up is a bit more than the 256MB it actually has (and the constant disk activity REALLY doesn't help). I need more RAM.

Really the only signifigant difference between coding in C/C++ and coding in those fancy-pants high level languages is that you need to build the interfaces yourself (as opposed to VB's drag and drop that doesn't even really work; dunno about others). True they may have more advanced functions, such as string search-and-replace, but these usually aren't that hard to write, or you can find one on Google and just drop it into your code. Coding in C++ for me is almost as easy as VB, because I've already written functions to do the things VB has built in, and just include them in each program. (Eventually I'll probably release that code, but I want to finish my web site first. )

The only free movie editors I know of are Windows Movie Maker (comes with Windows) and Virtualdub (Google it). WinMM sucks, don't even bother. (Only supports WMV, crashes half the time you try to save, etc.) Virtualdub unfortunately isn't that great either; supposedly there's plugins, but I haven't found any. It gets the job done, as long as the job is really simple.

No matter how many arguments you throw at me, "Wii" sucks. Just face it.

Without the explanation behind it, "Wii" stands as worst name ever for a console. "Revolution" may not have the same meaning behind it but at least, you can pronounce it without laughing.

Yes, my post is harsh but facts are facts. When you need to explain a console's name to stop people from laughing, you have a problem.

Have a nice day people.

Thank you.

I think your best bet is to time it, and see at exactly what frame the blocks will collide. In an auto-scroll level it should be the same every time. Then use LevelASM to just explode the block at that frame somehow. (Tip: $7E0013 is an 8-bit frame counter.)

Or if you know how to make sprites, you could make one that follows layer 2, and have it hit the block.

That "post background" field has a history of not working.
BTW, your BG is a bit bright. Try this darker version (the same image, but in half brightness mode).

Posted on 06-16-06 02:31 AM, in how do you make a editer Link
There's a grand total of two editors for 3D games I know of, both still in beta - Mario 64 and F-Zero X. Hacking 3D games is not easy! If you happen to know C or C++, OpenGL, at least grade 12 trigonometry, and aren't confused by a lot of math and numbers (and you'll probably need to know R4300 ASM too), there's an OoT hacking thread around somewhere. Otherwise I suggest you start by making a really simple 2D game engine, then move on to an editor for a 2D game with an easy format. (Tip: Pokémon G/S is piss-easy to edit. It's how I learned. ) Eventually, try to make some fun things in OpenGL. If you can make a simple 3D game engine, then you can start working on 3D editors.

I don't mean to discourage you, but there is a LOT of work involved in making a 3D game editor, or even finding the necessary information. 2D games are much easier and there's thousands out there just waiting to be hacked. Go give them a try.

just one question, will we be able to edit the overworld with the beta version? im talking about outside the castle.... i'm thinking about expanding it big-time... if you've ever played mario kart 64 and that level with the "hidden" castle in the middle of the track maybe you have a little idea of what im thinking of. so would it be possible to create a huge world and expand the game beyond the context of the castle?

thanks in advanced.

I'm not sure if the game can handle a huge area like that, but you could try what I mentioned a few pages back - design it like the castle. Use warps like the ones used in Wet-Dry World and Dire Dire Docks to break the level into many small pieces while still feeling like one huge level.

Then again, Mario Kart 64 can render that whole track just fine, so who knows. Can't tell until you try.

VL-Tone, way back when you were still working out the basics of the game's level data, you posted some info on RSP commands:

04 B0 00 C0 07 00 BD 50 ----> seems to be the start of a triangle group.
The important (known) bytes are the last three: "00 BD 50"
00BD50 will be used as a base address for this triangle group.

Did you ever find out what the B0 00 C0 07 bytes are for?

Posted on 06-16-06 02:38 AM, in SNES Pal - NTSC differences Link
There's hardware mods you can do to switch between NTSC and PAL mode. It's NES that has a different graphics chip for each; on SNES it's just a matter of switching modes. I think some games do another check in software to see if they're running at the right speed though.
