I'll second you there Arwon. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was one of the best movies I've ever seen... ever.
Amoung the worst? "Boogeymen"... and "Envy". Oh. My. God. Envy was the most terrible waste of film ever. Me and like 20 of my friends were all sitting in the movie theater.. and every single one of us had the same blank exp I don't even think I have to explain the horror and terribleness that was "Boogeymen". The title simply speaks for itself. I actually enjoyed House of Wax... alot. It managed to creep me out. The Grudge was terrible though. The whole time me and my friends were just ripping on it. The Exorcism of Emily Rose was pretty bad to. The lawyer in that movie doesn't stop drinking martini's.. ever. I found that funny. And the exorcism scenes were done terribly. But Envy is still the worst movie ever ever made. |

I love their music. It's simple and they don't try to add too much. You can tell that they stuck to basic blues with most of their stuff to, it's great. "Hotel Yorba" makes me happy on 10 different levels.

I've read every line of this entire thread.. and I don't want to sound insensitive, but it's a videogame.
It's just pixels. I'm 100% behind the GLBT's community.. all the time. I hate intolerance and I hate discrimination. My best guy friend is gay, and plays WoW actually. I understand the discrimination that GLBT's face every day in the world. He's been beat up, he's been called names.. his father isn't on good terms with him. Trust me, it's complete and total injustice. People will be ignorant. But it's a videogame.. you're supposed to go on there and uh, do whatever they do in WoW. Guilds, I can understand you guys want to talk to each other. I think you should be able to talk freely among the members of your guild. Not too explicit, but just general things like "I'm going to see my girlfriend later" seems reasonable. I can't imagine Blizzard would bar a membership for saying that in the game.. that would be ridiculous. But.. don't take it too seriously. It's WoW. Just pixels. I guess I agree with Kutske. I do think Blizzard was a bit harsh in the statements... but in general.. you have got to realize that it's just a game. |

Slooow motion seee me leeeett gooo!
Uh, yeah listening to Third Eye Blind. More on topic, the Salad Fingers Series is amazing. Anything by David Firth is amazingly creepy. Take a look at A black and white cartoon about berries or The Spoilsbury Toast Boy. Yeah that's some trippy sheeaat right there. The black and white cartoons are animated beautifully for a flash animation. So is everything by David Firth though. I love this man. He should get a spot on adult swim, imo. I'm sure he could come up with a 15 minute trippy crazy as hell slot for adult swim. I'd watch it. |

Pi bugs me out. It just HAS to start repeating sometime. It's not possible for the numbers from 0-9 to keep repeating on and on for eternity and never ever repeat.
I'm just waiting for the day that one crazy mathematician finally finds the end of pi. |

So out of the limited set of digits 1234567890.. there can be a pattern that will NEVER repeat? Ever?
That just seems impossible to me.. but math was never my forte. |

Months that are on my shitlist.
1. January 2. February 3. April 1 because it's cold... 2 because it's cold and pointless.. 3 because it's not may or June yet. It's like the waiting room to get into the waiting room for June. However Valentine's day is always delightful . But groundhogs day... which is tomorrow. Don't even get me started. And I believe my first words of February was me uttering phrases like "Grant's administration was corrupt and ineffective at governing the nation because he undermined his own authority with the vast number of scandals that occured during his administration."... Yeah I was finishing up history homework. Which is my absolute favorite subject... so this February may not be so bad. Especially because there's a 50% chance I'm seeing Andrew W.K. on Friday. |

My friend's doing these for my history teacher. It all started when we imagined him being born.. exactly how he is today. And like hiking out in full hiking gear with a rope and a pick axe.. then getting out checking the time and going "time to scale everest!". Or something to that effect. Things like "John Wilkes Booth didn't kill Lincoln, in fact,it was John Wilkes Hundley who did". [[Edit]] I have a far better one. "The Bermuda triangle does not actually exist, Hundley sinks ships in his spare time." Yeah it's definatly funnier if you know my history teacher. And you're there when he's explaining things. I'm a Wiccan who also believes in alot of Buddhist ideal and philosophies. Reincarnation, Karma, Peace.. I meditate with mantra and other forms of water meditation.. except I believe that people have a unique effect on the universe. The forces that are present inside of us and around us can be manipulated and discovered... which is where the Wiccan beliefs come in. I believe in the summerland, and that we can have spirit guides. I believe that in every life we are meant to learn a lesson, and that everything can be learned through personal experience. And I also believe that there are two states, physical and spiritual and that throughout our existance we cycle from one to the other and get reincarnated over and over until we have felt every emotion, and learned every lesson. Then we can exist at a higher level, I guess it's like the concept of Nirvana.. but I believe we just stay in our spiritual state (which is our natural state). I think we have spiritual guides on earth to.. like people you meet who are meant to teach you something.
Uh, It's kind of out there.. to say the least. It's something I can feel in the bottom of my heart.. and discovering my faith has made me a happier more well-rounded individual. I never feel alone, because I believe souls travel in groups.. and that there are soul mates.. so you can't possibly mess up your soulmate. And I don't know.. life just seems to make more sense to me through my faith. The patterns, the cycles.. the experiences. So yeah, Wiccan/Buddhist. |

The problem is, their holy land is in the exact same place.
I don't see how they can't just share the land though. Isreali's can live there, as well as Palestinians and it can be called Pisreal or something. However, now there's been too much blood spilled between the two to ever have some sort of normal situation over there. The scars will always be there. I can see how both Isreal and Palestine are at odds with one another. It's a terrible situation and there are no easy answers. It's strange how a Holy Land could turn into a place of such death and destruction. It just tells you something. Maybe it's not about religion.. it's probably just about power. |

No ones yet mentioned Ferrero Rocher. Or Linden Truffles.
I'm dissapointed in all of you. Even myself, for forgetting the two best kinds of chocolatly goodies out there. Oh wow, how I yearn for a Ferrero Rocher. |

Yes but isn't faith the way you go about living your life? Buddhism itself may not be a religion, but it does provide some spiritual guidelines and a set of ideals and beliefs to follow. So as a way of life.. it's similar to a religion.

Be prepared for the sequel.. "HELP MOM! There are homosexuals getting married and ruining my innocent childhood!!!"
I sent her a letter, because someone had to. It reads: But, you forgot to include the part where the lemonade corporations stomp all over the rights of the children working for them and exploit them for every single penny they're worth. So you fail. "I can't wait for the sequel: "Hey mom! There are homosexuals getting married and ruining my innocent childhood!!!!" I'm sure it'll maintain the same level of ignorance and closed mindedness as the first one. Those evil liberals, trying to make sure that everyone is equal under the law. And trying to make sure that money is spent in other areas besides the military leading to a better quality of life for all Americans (health care, social security, etc.). Damn them and their new-fangled taxes that benefit most working class Americans." (edited by Snow Tomato on 02-01-06 09:42 PM) |

The transcript is here.
This thread is to basically debate some of the points made, or just to analyze the speech. I found a couple of things VERY interesting about this speech. Particularly.. "This year my budget will cut it again, and reduce or eliminate more than 140 programs that are performing poorly or not fulfilling essential priorities. By passing these reforms, we will save the American taxpayer another $14 billion next year -- and stay on track to cut the deficit in half by 2009." Now if you just heard that once.. you'd be like "great the deficit won't be so large.. hooray for lower taxes". Nope. 140 programs were cut. What programs from where? And more importantly WHO weren't they working for? I'm pretty sure the student loans programs he's cutting would have worked just fine for people like me. He can't just come out and say we're cutting funding for education, healthcare and other social services for Americans because that would sound bad. Secondly, How can you cut taxes and expect to have these programs running effectively? The cuts are being made in social services, because I think he's made it stunningly clear that these cuts will not be made in military spending. So the quality and availability of health care, student loans, social security will be going down the tubes if spending is cut in these areas and taxes continue to be cut. Another thing I found interesting.. "The retirement of the baby-boom generation will put unprecedented strains on the federal government. By 2030, spending for Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid alone will be almost 60 percent of the entire federal budget. And that will present future Congresses with impossible choices -- staggering tax increases, immense deficits, or deep cuts in every category of spending." This is a real problem. There needs to be a rational solution to this as well. However, you can't keep spending over 60% of our budget on the military if you're going to be able to deal with the problem of social security. You can't keep cutting taxes and expect to be able to pay for all the governments spending without runnin huge deficits. Which is why I guess privatizing social security does make some sense... however, it would prove to be more beneficial to rich people rather than poor people.. which is where I see a problem. "Breakthroughs on this and other new technologies will help us reach another great goal: to replace more than 75 percent of our oil imports from the Middle East by 2025." Yes, from the middle east. And only 20% of our total oil consumption comes from the middle east. So that means we'd only be importing 5% of our oil from the middle east, which is a positive thing. But it isn't the milestone that he presented it to be, 75%. "Abroad, our nation is committed to an historic, long-term goal -- we seek the end of tyranny in our world. Some dismiss that goal as misguided idealism. In reality, the future security of America depends on it." "Every step toward freedom in the world makes our country safer, and so we will act boldly in freedom's cause." This would make LOADS more sense if a clear link was established between dictatorships and a threat to our security. Yeah, now Iraq is a shelter for terrorists because there's no clear government there now. And I actually agreed with the war on terror when it was in Afghanistan because we were actually fighting terrorism, not tyranny. It startles me when America is acting as the polic of the world. How are we going to establish democracies in other countries? Are we taking on too large of a task, all alone? How many people have to die along the way? People are not going to stop dying if we're constantly involved in a war.. people are going to stop dying when we put an end to the war. If we retreat it means peace. Obviously now we have to make sure Iraq can stand on it's feet, I think we all agree there.. but it needs to be clear that we shouldn't have the authority to go into another country and say "I think your dictatorship is a threat to freedom and America", and start a war. That's terribly wrong, and I don't feel it's our place. By far the scariest points of the speech were in the beginning. It's kind of just a foreshadowing of wars to come. So dissect away. I'm interested to see what you thought of the President's speech. |
