I've thinking of picking up photography, you know, for the artistic value. I've been looking on ebay, and I see alot of these 12MP, 2.5 LCD SVP digital cameras. They seem to be going for about 125 bucks, plus 25 or so shipping. Sounds like a pretty good deal at first, but reading further I realized its only 5MP, the other 7 million pixels are created through interpolation, in other words it just digitally expands the image with a simple algorithm to keep from looking too pixelated, rather than actually taking in that much data. Well, I don't want that, I don't want big images, I want detailed images, if I want to make them bigger I can expand them myself, probably using a better algorithm than that camera.
So does anyone have experience buying digital cameras? What's the best brands? The best models? What's the highest actual pixel count I can get at a reasonable price, like under $300? |

That's a good point, I saw alot of cameras claiming like 40x zoom, but its actually like 4x optical zoom with 10x digital. To me digital zoom doesn't count as zoom at all, I can take picture and crop and zoom whatever I want, I don't need the camera doing it for me, especially if its going to look like crap either way.
But I also saw some with pretty high optical zoom, up to 10x, but they were also very expensive, most over $1000, if I was going to spend a grand on something it wouldn't be a camera. I don't understand why optical zoom is so expensive, I can buy a pair of 10x binoculars for like $30, why it so expensive to put that same lens on a camera? Do you know of any fairly inexpensive models with a high optical zoom? Is it possible to buy the lens seperately? I still like the idea of high megapixels, as long as they're actual pixels. It seems like it would be nice to create a high detail stock image to create all different size images from without ever needing to expand it to larger than the original. I guess even for this 12MP is a little excessive, but I would like it to be rather high, atleast if I'm going to spend more than $150 on it. Another thing I was thinking about is battery life. Is this a big issue? How many photos should I expect to get out a single charge of standard alkaline batteries? How much will a large LCD reduce battery life? Are the ones with a built-in or proprietary batteries better? Another thing I noticed looking at picture created with a friend's 4MP camera was it seemed to have very bad compression artifacts, reguardless of the quality settings. If you zoom in there's alot of specs of different colors, and in some cases its noticable without zooming in. Is there any rating or number I should look for on a camera's spec that gives the level of compression used? I know I've seen plenty of jpeg photos without any noticable artifacts, and I'd perfer that even if the filesizes are larger. Also, and I know this is longshot, but are there any cameras that create photos in a format other jpeg, like for instance png, or even 24-bit bmp? Really, all I want is a camera that creates large crystal clear photos at a reasonable price. |

The phrase you use, sexual orientation, implies sexual attraction, this isn't the same thing as romance.
Within the female gender, there are physical traits that I find attractive, and others that I find unattractive. Among the ones I find unattractive are things like broad shoulders, a muscular stucture, and excessive body hair or facial hair. This is the case for most men, and this is why woman who look like men are normally considered unattractive. So why than would a straight man, who isn't physically attracted to women who look like men be attracted to a man that looks like a man? I always hear (or more often read) people say that you are secure in your sexuality if you can admit you find someone of the same gender attractive. But not really if there's nothing to admit. If I saw a man that looked exactly like an attractive woman (with pants on of course), I would have no trouble admitting I find him attractive. But more often than not, the traits that people normally consider attractive in men are those features that make them appear more "manly", and the very features I find unattractive in anyone. To me, "admitting" I find another man attractive makes as much sense as "admitting" I consider morbidly obese women attractive (which, by the way, I don't). As for the romance part of it, as shallow as it may sound, whether they want to admit it or not, for the majority of people, the path to their heart is through their eyes. No one sees someone across the room and thinks, gee, I bet she's (or he's) great for conversation. With the exception of maybe internet relationships, the first thing we notice about a person is their appearance (or in some cases their smell), and then we decide from there whether we'd like to know them better. So for a straight person, even though there may be someone of the same sex with all the personallity characteristics they would like in a romantic partner, since there's no physical attraction no romantic relation would occur because they would never get to know each on that intimate of a level. Besides physical attraction, and romantic involvement, the third issue is actual sexuality. As mean spirited as it sounds, I have no problem admitting I am very turned off by the idea of sexual intimacy with some I find physically unattractive. Whether it be someone is who is very overweight, elderly, or has male characteristics (like for instance, a man), and I get the idea this is how most people feel, whether they are able to admit or not. So I guess what I'm saying is that sexual and romantic relationships normally start from a physical attraction, and atleast for a sexual relationship require a certian amount of physical attraction to continue (atleast early on). And for every physical feature there is a more masculine and more feminine appearance, and due to genetics and hormones, men are more likely to be attracted to the feminine versions and women to the masculine. But some people are attracted to both, or masculine if they're a man, and feminine if they're a woman. Calling them bisexual or homosexual may be a label, but its stating a fact, just like calling someone male or female. Also notice I didn't say anything about love. That's a very broad term. I love my mother and sisters, and if I had any brothers I'm sure I'd love them too. I've even had pets I've loved, but thats obviously something completely different than what this thread's about. |

Well, its definately not the the computer specs, the minimum requirements for Windows 98 are 75mhz and 16mb of ram, I know because I've seen the error message you recieve if you don't meet these requirement.
I tend to get annoyed when people respond to my technical question on a message board by suggesting I do something completely different, but appartently that isn't enough to stop me from doing it myself. Unless there's a good reason for you not to, I would suggest Windows NT 4.0, or even Windows 2000. I know the minimum processor requirements for Windows 2000 is 133mhz, but I'm not sure what the memory requirements are, but I'm pretty sure it would run ok with 32mb as long as you don't run a bunch of other stuff, but this is true for Windows 98 as well. |

I don't think the quality of someones layout is as much of a reflection on their intelligence as you seem to think.
Really though, I think you should just calm down. Yes, some people's layouts are hard to read, but I'm sure we'll all live. |

Yesterday, David Irving a controversial historian was sentenced to 3 years in prison for the crime of Holocaust denial.
What are your thoughts on the subject? First of all, do you believe there has been any exaggerations made as to scope of the Holocaust? Did it occur at all? Keep in mind, depending on where you live, your answer could be against the law. Secondly, (and most likely a much less one sided discussion) how do you feel about the very act of denying the holocaust being illegal? Does the very act of denying the holocaust incite hatred and violence? Is on the same level as yelling fire in a crowded theatre? Like everything I have an opinion on this, but I think this time I'll wait for a few responses first. (edited by emcee on 02-22-06 01:39 AM) |

It should be obvious to anyone with eyes and common sense that the Holocaust did occur. I have seen the photos of the pits of dead bodies, and many of testamonies from the thousands of survivors, and the camps are still there. There is enough hard evidence to make it a pretty open a shut case. So how could people deny it happened? The only way to fake something like that would have to be by a very powerful group. A group that could fake thousands of photos, documents, and witness testimonies, or at the very least manipulate hundreds of historians into believing this evidence means something it doesn't. I'm of course talking about the Jews. This is why anyone who goes beyond just entertaining the possibility that the Holocaust didn't happen to actually believing it didn't, is almost certainly in some way linked to neonazism, or general bigotry towards Jewish people and a belief that the "evil Jews" are exerting pressure on world government, manipulating our accounts of history, and trying to control the world's wealth.
To me the phrase "freedom of speech", is wrong, it should be "freedom of expession", speech is both too broad and to limiting, it covers all speech and none of the other forms of communication. There is no exp Besides that, its just counter productive. When someone is thrown in jail for denying the Holocaust, they become a martyr to other deniers, an it just reinforces the belief in oppression of their views by a Jewish controlled conspircy. There is nothing that shouldn't be discussed in civil debate. When someone is wrong it becomes obvious very quickly in debate. Refusing to even debate the topic, and throwing anyone in jail who tries to, just show lack of faith in your own arguement and reinforces the beliefs of the opposition. Originally posted by Tarale Yeah, I had a similar problem a while back. The sound quality on my mp3s was terrible, but I installed a sound card and now they sound infinitely better. Anyway if you're looking for a new NIC, here is a pretty good deal, with $4 3 day shipping: here |

It a shame Ziff's leaving, though, even if he does keep closing threads just before I go to post in them. Maybe two was a bit of an exaggeration, but I think a few good mods is better than a bunch of ok mods. But then again, I've never ran a forum, so I guess I can't say for certian what works. |

Also, isn't this headbanging Mario? |

Good CD burning software can allow you to make VCDs from mpg video, and SVCDs from mp2 video. If you're starting from AVI (normally in an mp4 format like divx or xvid) you'll need to convert it first with a program like tmpgenc. |
