Oh... wow.
Well, at least everyone's okay, but that's another reason to add to my list of reasons not to go skydiving. As if my fear of heights wasn't reason enough... Risktaker = not me. |

Hmm.. Most of you guys must be talking about college; I don't get out until next Thursday , and I have to go back on Jan. 3rd. Seems rather short, to me. But I suppose that they make up for it by giving us a week off for Thanksgiving and a week of for Spring Break. In high school, what more can you ask for than that?

Okay, this is getting far too complex for a 10th grader like myself, but I'll try to contribute anyway. You really don't need the math for this situation, because it's kind of common sense.
Let me take the classic cookie example. Say you're dividing a cookie amongst people. How much of a cookie will each person get? What happens if we divide a cookie amongst 0 people? The common sense answer is, "Who cares?" The whole point of division is to divide something into X equal parts. If you're dividing by 0, you're pretty much saying, "Okay, we have one cookie divided into 0 pieces. How big is each piece?" It doesn't work, but it doesn't need to work. On the other hand, let's say you're dividing a cookie into an infinite number of pieces. How big is each piece? Well, usless you plan of splitting an atom, and thus destroying the cookie entirely, there'll always be a little left. You can't cut something into such tiny pieces that it vanishes. Again, it doesn't work, but doesn't really need to. I agree with Squash Monster: it's best viewed as a limit. Of course, maybe something like this is somewhat useful in more advanced math. This is from a 10th-grader's point of view. And IMO, there just can't be multiple infinities. The definition of infinity is the biggest possible number. Thus, if there's a bigger infinity, it'd become the new and only infinity. |

Ehh, I use a really dull, really boring wallpaper that came with windows, called Metal Links or something. I always leave things maximized, so it's not like I really care...
I haven't heard of Starfish or Digital Blasphemy before, though. I might check those out. |

I know most people here are 18+, so this may be irrelevant for them, but for others do you already know a present or two that you're getting? I know I'm getting a Dell Dimension E510 for Christmas; I know because I'm putting $200 towards it myself.
Anyway, it'd be interesting to know if anyone already knows of or has gotten a present already. If not, feel free to guess. *cautiously shakes present* |

Well, in addition to that computer (which due to a mistake won't get here till Tuesday), I know almost for sure I'm getting a video game of some sort, because my Mom accidentally bought one we already had and had to return it. Besides that, probably some clothes, maybe a book, but anything else is kinda bonus.

Well, I'd like to start by saying hi, because I've been gone for a while, but I will get right to the point. I have to have oral surgery tomorrow. I hate regular dentists (some fear of mine) but an oral surgeon? Anyway, they are going to take out my three wisdom teeth (apparently I was only born with three ) and "perduade" two, uhh, canines I think, to come in since they won't on their own. No, it won't be fun, but at least they'll knock me out for it. And on the flip side I get a four-day weekend . Maybe even a new video game to make up for all the suffering.
So, I'd like to ask you guys: have any of you had oral surgery before? What was it like? Thanks for the input. |

Well... You guys may be wondering how it went. Well, the short answer is that it didn't.
Seriously, the receptionist messed up or something and I wasn't properly put in the schedule. I now have an appointment for tuesday, Feb. 21st. I'm mad because I wanted to get it over with, and I have to go to school tomorrow (thus I have to do some homework). On the other hand, I did get out of school today, and got a video game anyway. (I got Mario Party 7). So, I'm mad at the receptionist, but whatever. I always hated other people in my mouth, though, and thus after I was 11 or so, I'd wiggle my loose teeth until they came out rather than having anyone pull them. |

Well, actually I was the one who picked out Mario Party, hoping my little brother would like it and play with me. But he doesn't. And I chose it instead of M+L: PiT? *smackes himself over the head with a skillet* But things could be worse.

Well, I don't play Morrowind much anymore, and never got even close to beating it, but I'm definitely looking forward to the fourth one, Oblivion. I just have so many video games, and not a long attention span, so I play all of them a little instead of actually beating a couple.

That's an awesome speed run, I must say. I used to love SM64 and liked to fool around with glitches for it, but that's one I hadn't seen before. Though the only glitches I could do with any sort of reliability were the one where you fall through the castle wall and the one where you "clone" your hat using the warps after it falls off.

How retro are we talking here? If you're including some of the later SNES games, then SMRPG and Kirby Superstar were my faves. Funnily enough, I never owned either myself, but rented/borrowed quite a bit.
Oh, and I second Donkey Kong '94 and Super Mario Land, too. |

Aww, man.... So jealous of all you guys who already have Wiis Guess it serves me right for being under 18. I have school to worry about. No camping out at the stores for me. Hopefully we'll get one by the end of the month, but even that is doubtful... the nearest game store to us is about 45 min. away.
On the plus side, we did get Zelda, Twilight Princess for Christmas. |

I like your reasoning, Alkis, but we'd still need to get all the resources on the moon first before we could launch anything. I suppose it might save fuel in the long run, but the main benefit is all the extra room they'll have up there to plan and launch stuff. Still, I see it as a necessary step. The nearest planet to us, Mars, still would take about 5 months to fly to, or so I heard. Getting to the moon only takes a day or two at the most.
Edit: Sorry you thought that was a bump. I used to be active a while back and we generally went by a rule-of-thumb that anything still on the first page was fair game. Still, it doesn't look as active here as it used to be, so if the rule has changed let me know. (edited by jordan_mega_gamer on 01-22-07 10:25 PM) |

What kinds of books do you like to read?
If you could completely eradicate something from the internet, what would it be? |

I would... well... not be online for a while. Not sure how long until I started suffering from internet withdrawal.
Actually, I'd just go over to my dad's house and use his internet. I'm pretty sure that dialup /w no lag > high-speed /w infinite lag. Man, wouldn't it be horrible if the lag followed you around like a disease? It might not be as bad if it was contagious. |

I started NaNoWriMo in 2005 as well. I started with a semi-vague idea about this farmer and magician having to travel through time to save the world. I finished in time, but I think I stuck a lot of filler into it. I still haven't really looked at it much. I think it could make decent Young Adult fiction though.
I tried again in 2006, but with an even vaguer idea. I only managed 10k and still had a good amount of filler. It was supposed to be about an alcoholic who murders his wife and gets stuck in jail with a hippie. What happens next? I don't know. I threw in an ominous voice called "The Narrator" for extra word count. All I knew was that this one was going to be decidedly non-Young Adult. Or something. I blame the rigors of being a junior in high school. I'm pretty sure I'm not trying again this year. But I'm taking Fiction Writing class this semester, so we'll see... |

Bleh... we got about 5-6 inches Saturday morning, and it's the first really major snowfall we've had in my area of Vermont. Not incredibly surprising, since Jan./Feb. are usually the worst, but we typically have a few good storms earlier too. We had no snow on Christmas. What's worse, my school hasn't had any snow days yet! Usually we have 3-4 by the end of April, and at least 1 by Christmas...

Oh, that's right! I still have that PM of yours too. I'm glad somebody liked it. I don't really think any of the other guys doing it at my school cared for it. Theirs were all violent and such, y'know, not quite kid-friendly books. Still, I guess maybe. I'd probably have to add it to my horrifically long list of "things to do when I happen to have extra time".
Maybe I should upload the start of my 2006 Nano too. It's not much, but I've at least learned that diving headfirst into NaNoWriMo without a shred of preplanning doesn't work for me. Maybe I can rework and rewrite it for Nano 2007. Do you think I could look over one of your Nano manuscripts? If you thought mine was good, well, I can only imagine how great yours would be. |
