Hey.

Just making a general sticky thread to conglomerate some of the stuff in here instead of just having seperate little threads on each person. Thought it might be a good idea to do so to talk about outside ideas and maybe make hints to other threads or maybe even say that 'I'm working on such and such' project.

...or maybe just say stuff about writing in general, whatever the case.

By the by, I am liking the whole [genre here] thing before the threads. That might be a good thing to continue in terms of format when posting a story. It's a good way to sift through the growing numbers of threads, if nothing else.

Also, there is some TALENT displayed here. You guys should post your thoughts as well as you can. I think that might be one of the harder aspections of this forum: overcoming objections to actually posting some decent feedback/critique. Any and all opinions are probably appreciated to anyone here. Just have fun with it, that's all that matters!

Hay, sticky!

Subcon, dream log

It's a little unorthodox due to its nature (it's not so much creative as me writing down all of my memory), but I don't know if it'd fit here...
*Xkeeper isn't so sure about showing others, either.

I'd say it'd fit just fine.

I especially liked reading January 2nd's dream. Sounds like something I'd have. xD

Dream logs are interesting and useful because they help people get an idea of how to write a realistic dream. I've read many dream sequences that seem phony, probably because they're too straightforward and concrete. Dreams are random and fuzzy with a logic all their own, and they often seem real at the time despite their disconnect with the actual world. I'll dream that I'm in college (in the real world, I graduated in 2001) and I haven't gone to class all semester. I'll run into people I know, and they'll look nothing like they do in real life. My house will be twice its size with a different floor plan, and I'll think that I just never noticed the rest of the living room before.

Would it be reasonable to suggest that people include word counts in the body or title of their threads? I hate diving into a story, only to see that it drags on for a million more pages. Scanning it quickly would generally be the simple solution, but with differences in layouts and font sizes and whatnot, it's not always easy to tell at a glance how long a piece will be just based on how much space it fills on my screen. And all a person needs to do is paste their text into any word processor to get a quick wordcount, so it's not really a huge issue, I think.

If you're talking about something like mine...I'm pretty sure I said that in my description (about 70,000).

Though it'd be pretty nice to get an estimate on something like that but it's more or less an option right now, not a requisite.

I could theoretically add one, but it wouldn't be able to determine word count of linked files (ugh) and would count descriptions too, so you'd end up with the same crap anyway. :/

I have a Question about original vs. fanfiction.

I know, there are peeps which love to read FFs, and other can't stand FFs but realy love original works, and there is the rare kind of the read 'em all.

And I think I'm not the only one with an account over at ff.net or something similar for writing stuff, what do you think, link that stuff (like deviantArt und such) or copy and paste the text?

And as Hiryuu allready pointed out, the [genre here] tags should be put to wide use here. as it makes it really easier to find what you want to read. like [Orig][Type]Title (Chapter) or something ( [FF][Series][Type] Title (Chapter) )

Any ideas for a standard? (The FFML uses something like that I mentioned).

On linking to FF.net, that's perfectly fine as long as you actually link. I think there was one thread so far that didn't even have the courtesy to do that.

On the displaying, I think that something like "[name of genre]" works but something like "[name of genre/(on-going, finished)]" also helps out a few people in terms of longer fics.

This forum is quiet.

However, I'd rather wait before nuking this. It seems to be bringing quality, which is good.

Perhaps I should actually do that forum rearrangement I was considering.

Recall, as well, this is far more of a thoughtful forum than a lot of others. ROM Hacking, for instance, is as well but our primary concern with this board is more ROM hacks than anything else, so that's understandable.

This is new and isn't the top priority. But we still have people putting new stuff in every so often. This kind of stuff does take some time to post and generate decent feedback on.

Sides, this is doing a lot better than I expected it would. It's getting some intelligent posts and/or feedback with it as well.
