Blaster Mater: Pimp your Ride is a rom hack of the NES game Blaster Master. It features some major assembly hacks as well as some level alteration in order to show off the new features.

What are the new features? Eight, count them, 8 new upgrades! That's not all. These upgrades are in addition to the seven that already exist! That's 15 upgrades for the tank in all!. Each new upgrade can be found in one of the tank levels, and I will not disclose what their functions do since they should for the most part be self-explanitory.

As for screenshots, forgive me if I must link to them since I don't have upload space:

Please inform me if you find any bugs, or if you have some suggestions for a possible further release.

So far so good Jigg, I like what I'm playing so far. I'm up to Area 2 now. I like the room with the spikes in Area 2. Everyone should really give this hack a try, it's really good. I'm gonna make sure to play this from beginning to end, I loved Blaster Master when I was a kid. Thanks for the release.

Hehe, I bet you didn't find the entrance to level 2 before beating level 1's boss. If you did I had a surprise to make sure you can't go far.

Anyway, for those who are not familar to the game, there are few things that need explaining: First of all, in tank mode you can shoot up, left, and right. You can press down and B to use a special weapon, but in this game that ability needs to be unlocked one weapon at a time. Also, to exit the tank, press Select. This lets you climb ladders and enter small passageways. At least one person tried to play the game not knowing the controls, and found that tanks don't go up ladders.

I played the first area over again and went straight into area 2 before getting the the Hyper Cannon, that lill surprise you threw in there was pretty hot. I can't wait to see what else is in store in this hack.

I sent this hack to my cousin, I'm waiting for his feed back. I know he'll love this hack, he still own all BM games.

Edit - Just a thought Jigg, Would it be possible to AsM hack Jason when he's in the overhead view? Like, holding down the A and B buttons to rapid fire his weapons and grenades, that'd be pretty cool to see. I can't remember if Jason can rapid fire when he gets his gun maxed.

Don't forget that after level 2 the levels are more or less the same as the original, with a few areas a bit different.

Don't mind me asking (haven't been keeping up with Rom Hacking like I used to), but how did you go about making this? Level alteration wise I guess. Is there a level editor out there now, or? Ol' hex?

Googie: I'm pretty sure there was never rapid firing in BM.

I used BCK, or Blaster Construction Kit, which was coded by UraniumAnchor.

As for rapid fire, that is actually quite doable, but would make it kind of broken. Of course space constraints are also a factor.

Now just imagine rapid fire tank gun, or rapid fire special weapons. That would be so cool!

Just marathonned through the entire game. Got all the uprgades. Finding places to use some of these had me stumped for an hour or so. Once I had all the powerups beating the final Area was comically easy, certainly making this game living up to its subtitle.

Some of these maneuvers that required the power ups were difficult and took me a few tries to pull off. The first of the new upgrades took me much longer than it should have. I didn't even know what it did until I decided to switch from keyboard to gamepad and I was like... woah.

I came across a few minor bugs. One got me stuck in the wall here:

I jumped down and I ejected Jason out of the vehicle and he landed near a wall. Somehow, the game interpreted this as making Jason go through a tunnel into the neighboring room from I'm pretty sure this location:

However, I was never able to duplicate the feat. Blaster Master's kind of buggy to begin with (eg, push start all the blocks come back, especially dangerous with Jason running around).

There's a room in Area 4 with a bunch of these keyholes all over the place that do nothing. I'm sure you're aware of it. I recommend fixing it.

I had the sound turned off for the majority of the game for environmental reasons. When I had it on at one point in Area 6, I hit the pause button and the music switched to that of Area 8. I have no idea why.

And there's one thing I couldn't figure out: the "gun" power up in overhead Jason mode. It never went higher than two bars for me. I got it over one bar sometime in Area 3 and then two bars by Area 7. Was this on purpose?

I absolutely loved the new upgrades and the game! There may be even more ways to employ them then we might think, but I'm sure you already thought of at least a gazillion of them.

Very Good Game. Going any further with it? I'm tempted to find a way to put it on a cart.

I tried playing this but didn't get very far. I liked what I saw, though.

(I very rarely played the original, though, so my comments hold little water)

Thank's guys for the imput. As for the keyhole problem, I've fixed that. Not sure about the other bugs though. As for the gun powerup, each one gives 1 and 3 units of gun power respectivly. It takes 32 units to make the gauge go higher, and one more upgrades the gun. You have to find all of them and maybe power level to get it up to maximum. One thing that bugged me about the original is that there were so many powerups, and most of them were pointless.

And I have to agree, the final area with all new upgrades is way too easy. First off, you can walk on walls and celings. Second, you have super speed and invincibility. Third, rapid fire, then infinite hover. Like the title suggests, you are truely pimped out when you finish the game.

To mister Saint.

AWESOME! I played the game (still trying to figure somethings out but that's a good thing make the brain work). Just wondering how in the heck did you get that BCK to work. Now, I know you read my name and granted that I am. However, I read the directions and followed every thing as far as I think I did and I still can't get it to work. What program did you open BCK.cfg with? Cause so far I've changed it and nothing. It's not working. I know I should probly ask the programer, but I thought I'd ask a guy who's already worked with it. Maybe the good people here on the board will give a guy a hand.

Other than that, I would like to say I graphically hacked some of the monsters in the game and wondered if you would like to take a peak at them to see if you want to add them to your game. As soon as I figure out how get screens from my games, I'll post them. Just let me know if you are interested please.
