Should there be a seperate Solo/Creative Write forum alongside of the Modern Art Forum?
The reason I ask this is two-fold, see the thread.

Ever stop to think for a minute that there are writers out there?

The only reason they AREN'T posting is because stuff like this gets left in the dust. That, or there's no one capable enough that generally browses the forum to give some decent feedback or even appreciation to some of the writing shown here.

Obviously, there are writers because if there weren't we wouldn't have a Story Forum or Sim-Battle Arena that has existed FOR YEARS.

"left in the dust?" No one browses the forum? What the hell? A new forum wouldn't solve that problem at all!

Making a forum for writing won't make writing more popular, you make a forum when something is already popular. Nobody's going to post there. You guys say you will, but if I know this board at all it's because you guys are deluding yourselves into thinking you're more active than you really are.

Fuck ROM Hacking Releases, by the way.

Really? Because I've done this before at a forum like this (TBB) where there was an SF and a MA like forum and we made a creative writing forum when the interest was laid down to possibly make one.

It took off...and that place got 100 posts per day at best...

I'm saying that this could be an opportunity waiting to happen if a small fry like that could perform (or rather exceed past my expectations).

Besides, name me one thing that we have to lose? Server space? Would it really be so bad to have an extra forum because of an opportunity that I'm attempting to give people...or are the people giving me negatives just here to give me negatives because of something that may happen won't because based on something that really isn't proven will happen (i.e. the forum flopping). And even it did die, it can be dumped.

So...what's the problem?

I voted "Yes" because when I consider the possibility of a separate forum rationally, it is clear that, as you've said Hiryuu, there's nothing to lose. Might as well give it a shot; who knows what may come of it? Just because a few people assume with their presumably omniscient knowledge of our board population that the forum would not work does not mean they couldn't be very, very wrong. Pessimism doesn't accomplish anything in this world, and our board is no different.

Judging from the votes, it's clearly "for". Besides, we can always undo it later.

I'll bring more attention to it first, though.

I agree with this.

It should just be tried out. If the idea succeeds, then it's okay and it can be kept, if it fails, it can just be deleted.
We don't seem to have any disadvantage if we test it out.. Who knows, maybe this will get a really good place, but we will never find out if we don't try.

I vote yes.

I do recall when Tek Hacks was still up that there was a writing forum. It had its own comment forum as well specifically for comments. It was perfect. It worked out well, too. Activity from the readers and the writers as they just wrote a chapter at a time and asked mods to rename the thread to show what chapter its on.

While I'm not saying there should be two forums for this, one forum would encourage others to post their own stories that they do not want to start roleplaying for. Heck, could encourage me to make my own story that makes no sense.

It would also be nice to have everyone's stories gathered in one place so in case I decide to want to just read something I have access to just random stories.

Even if it doesn't get a lot of activity, you never know what will happen unless you give it a shot. As said, if it doesn't work, it can be removed.

If the name of this forum wasn't set in stone by tradition, you could always rename this forum to "Modern Art and Writing".

Since that's obviously not going to be the case, I'm for the new forum as well, per the "there's nothing to lose" argument.

I feel the subject will bring very little threads to the forum as a whole, considering to how things are already going.

But new forums usually attract attention like "Hmm, that wasn't there before, lets click it." and activity can boost for a short period of time. Then it likely goes very inactive.

Y'know, except for the four threads that keep it from being removed altogether. =/

Nah, this doesn't seem to be the correct solution.

Actually, I like to write. I think I would take advantage of this forum myself.
I never really thought about it until now of course, but it does sound like a great idea, bringing more people to the board in the process! But it would have to be heavily monitored so it didn't turn into another Officer's...

Hm, seems like a good idea to me.

It could perhaps spark some new writers, and perhaps get some to post some of their old, OLD stuff. (Like me. It's all crap, though. Meh.)

I'd certainly make use of this forum myself, in time.

It's a good idea on paper... but would we have any activity there? Modern art isn't ever too overwhelmed with written works, is it? Would the forum end up getting cluttered with stupid spam "stories" or threads that bring down the rest of the forum as a whole? Would it be completely inactive?

The main question is whether or not it would be worth it. But I'm certainly not against the idea.

I agree with those who have pointed out that there's no harm in creating a writing forum, even if it ends up getting deleted later. I personally would never use it, but I'm certainly not against it.

Although if it fails, nuking it wouldn't bother me at all.

Got my vote. I do actually write a lot, I don't usually go through the bother of attempting large passages here simply because things of that sort don't receive a terrible amount of feedback and get swept off the main page in MA so quickly. I've attempted it, and I know other people have.

That and it could create an entirely new branch of 'static' SF/SB lore; to get a point across there usually takes a sweeping, epic thread with a large number of active participants, which frankly I haven't been seeing lately... maybe it would bump our numbers up even, who knows...

I can't really elaborate how a writing forum would exactly benefit anyone besides my mindset, but I do personally think it would be an excellent thing to have.

Voted yes.

Really doesn't hurt anyone to try a new forum
I mean, in some instances it is better to try and fail rather to not try at all and regret it in the future

Obviously, like many have said, there is the issue of activity, but a test run shouldn't be so bad. If it works, it works, if it doesn't, then get rid of it.

It's a simple change, be it good or bad, only time will tell.

I voted yes. As others have mentioned, there's nothing to lose. At best, the writing forum would be active and useful, and at worst, the threads would just get chucked back in here. I'm also biased because I've gotten back into writing (y helo thar NaNoWriMo), and I had no idea that people were discussing it in this forum.

There are already adequate places in which you can do these things. Femine's Corner has been utilized to a great degree for this. Modern Art can handleit. Additionally, Officer's Club and the WA/D forum can attrition out some of the damage. The whole thing won't be utilized enough to warrant constant supervision by a dedicated mod of any sort. It would just be easier for people to slot out their work as they feel fit amongst what we have here.

I thus vote no.

No one said we'd need a dedicated mod for it. We already have several admins and full moderators who could easily handle it

You got my vote, people are not really being acknowledged for the writing they do. I know a lot of people are working hard and are doing a lot of writing and would like to get it out there.

I'm all for it!

To be frank, it's not like the forum could possibly be any more spam-saturated than many of the forums that already exist. I mean, even a thread that is the least bit relevant to this new forum's theme would inherently hold more value than the typical thread in Craziness, for example.
