Should there be a seperate Solo/Creative Write forum alongside of the Modern Art Forum?
The reason I ask this is two-fold, see the thread.

It's not so much that I already know that writing in the soloist's terms goes in here but there always seems to be a problem with people posting their one-shots or their ideas in terms of writing or maybe even a whole novel:

No one ever seems to post any feedback.

This hasn't been going on just recently, but spans quite the onset of time. Every so often there will be a person, in this most recent case - Forte.EXE, will post something pertaining to a single-person write and one of two things will happen: 1) It gets posted here and no one pays it any regard. 2) It gets posted in the Story Forum or Sim-Battle Forum and everyone gives said person a big to-do over the confusion and moves it here anyways where it collects dust. I don't think I've seen many people posting back about writing stuff since Khar left us...and that's been about two years ago. I actually remember there being some SORT of a discussion that may have spanned close to 10 posts in Anya's forum.

So, my want for such a forum is two-fold: It will allow more focus and possibly encourage on more solo writing styles or ideas that could be used in general or possibly a sideshot for SF or SB. The second thing is that it will possibly make such a thing more organized so that people that are not familiar with the Story Forum have a place where they can post their own ideas and possibly get some recognition for it.

That way, when Most comes around, you actually have more to go on than some goofy SF experience. Maybe some actual writing potential (not that I'm saying there isn't any in SF/SB but ya know...).

Pretty sure I asked about this a while ago, and got turned down.

While writing may be art, its a lot different than looking at a picture.

I doubt writing will get much more attention in a forum specifically for it.

Based on what? Most of the time I see people wanting a seperate forum that I talk to for such things. If anything, if done right, it'd encourage it.

Course, there'd have to be a strong base over it. It might let people that actually have the talent come forward or those that already post in other forums related to that come forward as well with their own thing.

I'm not saying it's going to be one of those forums that 'will be put in and must be used or else all die'...I'm just basically wondering if it would be a forum that would be interesting enough to be used at least somewhat. I mean we have a Big Topics forum still...

Then again, this would have a hell of a lot more merit than that.

Pay attention to the last post date, dear. I "closed" it but forgot to actually remove it.

Oh. Oops?

I almost said Game Creation.

Still, I've seen this work on lesser working forums before. I bet it could do well if we had the proper people (mods) helping it out.

Because, its no easier to click on and read a story posted in a forum specifically for it than it is in the Modern Art forum. I'm not voting against it though, since I don't think it would hurt anything, I just don't think it will help either.

The real problem is probably just presentation. If people posted their stories in easy to read "bite size" portions, then people would likely read along, await future installments, and of course leave comments. But what normally happens is people click on a thread, see a massive wall of text, their eyes glaze over, and they move on to the next thread.

I'm not saying it's right, but that's just the way it is.

I voted no. I have nothing against it, but usually when specialty forums are made, its because a certain sector of an already existing forum was outgrowing the forum (SMW, pokemon).

We already have a forum for art, why not just use it?

I'd be happy to read what people submit, if not necessarily contribute myself. As it stands now, I more or less avoid this forum, but I think if we had a dedicated platform for creative writing then I (as well as others, likely) would be more inclined to actually check it out. It remains to be seen whether it would actually lead to a greater number of writing projects being posted, though...heh heh.

Because when we do, as SS pointed out, people tend to ignore it or don't even visit this forum for this particular purpose anyways. Heck, there was a reason I sticked this because I figured this POLL might get ignored because it had the term 'writing' in it.

See what I mean? <<

If people are so interested, why haven't they been commenting in the first place? Doesn't matter much to me, though.

For.

I've always felt the writing stuff in Modern Art felt out of place. This isn't really an issue of things growing too active, it's one of specializing the forums in a logical manner.

Edit: Oh, and we should name the writing forum.... "The Pen is Mightier" ... For, you know, obvious jokes.

Precicely. See also Officers vs. Femine's, Emulation vs. Gaming vs. Tournaments, Simbattle vs. Story Forum...

A lot of these really aren't active enough seperately, but the fact they're so different from each other is perfectly acceptable.

Besides, we can always nuke it if it really, really badly flops.

Well, if it's on a democratic basis...we're 12-2 right now. I was expecting fewer votes in a turnout like this, to be honest, so there seems to be some sort of want by a dozen people for this to happen.

I may just take the initiative to see if this can be made sooner than later. We'll need a good user base and some dedicated mods to pull this idea off, however.

If this were made, it would be hopelessly stagnant and eventually merged back into MA. No.

I don't see much demand for it, mostly votes. Forte.exe and you sound like the only people who have writing which is posted but needs its own forum to be appreciated. Perhaps if there were more writers here and they clogged up the Art forum with writing.
