Guess what, it's finally finished.

EDIT: Note: It seems that this hack isn't working on ZSNES 1.42.
(But version 1.36 works fine for sure)
(and the new version 1.50 seems to work as well)

You can get it here, along with additional information, screenshots and whatever. For more detailed information check out the Read me.

And don't forget, the hack is more on the hard side. The first two worlds are fairly easy, but after that the difficulty will increase.
So, what else is to say? I hope you enjoy it!

Alright! I've been waiting for this! New music? I hope you mean the SMB3 and SMB1 music... because if you don't, people are going to bug you to help them get new music into THEIR hacks.... *already downloaded and is ready to patch* Hmmm... Will my hands be tied up between playing Kirby Squeak Squad, Yoshi's Island DS, Sonic Heroes, and this? Let's find out!

Ugh... I can't play it. Mario's Castle won't load - it just says "Mario Start" indefinitely. I waited for a while, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. Meh.

I noticed that, too- So I used Snes9x, and THAT works. Just be warned- Mario seems to be VERY slow to me, and Mario Castle isn't even worth going through. It's too short, if you ask me. Oh well. I was tired of getting hit a lot and Mario being super-slow, so I just turned off my emulator.

Huh, what? Joshua, which version of ZSNES are you using? (I have v1.36, win version) I just tried it with the exact same ips-file and it worked. (Very fast, actually) - and since BMF54123 released the new slowdown patch, there shouldn't be any slowdown problems anymore, or in other words, it works fine on my end as well.

edit: I just tried it in snes9x as well... no "super-slow-mario" for me either.

Must be the screen size, then. It seems that the SNES9x screen is smaller than the ZSNES screen. (To me, at least...) By the way, I use... ZSNES 1.42. That's obviously the problem. It seems great, but one thing... HOW DID YOU GET THAT CEILING-WALKING KOOPA?! If you were able to change the direction of gravity for enemies, please show us how you did that! I've been wanting that for a while...

I just tested ZSNES 1.42. Yeah I have the same problem with that. So if you want to play it on ZSNES the only solution would be to switch to an older version? At least I'm very sure that it works very fine on version 1.36, because that's the one I'm using.

And, uhm, there aren't any ceiling-walking koopas, but I'm sure that could be done with Sprite Tool as well. The answer is much simpler. Edit the normal koopa-graphics and place invisible mario-only-blocks under them.

Btw the trouble with ZSNES 1.42 is caused by the m16-7k-feature in LM. And I thought it would be gone but it seems it was there all the time. I just switched the emulator accidently and haven't noticed that I was using an older version.

That's genius. Though I imagine the illusion would be broken when you try to stomp one.

Note to self: do this with a Mega Mole.

I have the most recent version of ZSNES... is it my processor? It's Pentium 2.

So I tried with SNES9X, and it was better, but not too good... I either had to make it really, really tiny or really, really slow.

Edit: Hmm, actually, there's one new version of ZSNES that wasn't there a few weeks ago. I'll try it.

This looks pretty cool. I've just downloaded and patched the game to make sure it works; I'll try it out tomorrow afternoon when I'm not pushing a major deadline and actually have some free time.

In the future, though, do note somewhere that the patch should be applied to a rom with a 512-byte copier header. Because I was unaware of this requirement, I initially ruined a perfectly good Super Mario World ROM image simply by applying your hack to it. Further, such instructions will keep people from wondering why their game blackscreens when the patch is applied :p

Hm, given that's all we SMW hackers use, I guess nobody ever realized it might not be obvious to non-SMW-hackers.

That is a horrible title screen. You really should have gotten someone to draw you a new one. Text is so... Ameteur. Also, the use of SMB3 music makes me kinda sad.

Really, I don't much like any of the new graphics I've seen so far. As I feel is common among many hacks, this uses graphics that don't fit with other graphics. An inconsistent graphical style is a bad thing. Also, you didn't fix the ending fading, which is , to say the least. On the other hand, your palettes aren't distracting, except that you don't seem to know when to use red... But these are all relatively minor issues, since nothing is really THAT bad. Except the castle background, I really hope that doesn't stay constant, it's awful (though I'm not past the first world so I don't know).

Level design's not so bad, except the first level which was rather annoying (and ended abruptly, to say the least). There are bland parts, but then I could accuse everything, ever of that, and my work is no exception (though I would say it's better about it ). Really, though, you can never go at a reasonable speed and thing don't seem to be well placed. I haven't gotten that far into the hack, but I don't think I'll see any real problems except what's been said already. So... Decent job, I guess, just... It's not really as good as it could be. It's not bad, certainly better than most, but... Eh.

Edit: Beat world 1. I must say, the boss seemed very bland. Maybe it's just that I also made heavy use of Big Boo Boss and am biased, thinking I did it better, but eh. Also, Zycloboo looked feh already; on that background, with the transparency, it was just awful And why were all the koopas blinking with the Magikoopa? Did you not set the right mode? Also, your overworld has too many square objects with barely rounded edges. It's not much of a step up from just squares... And the graphics of the new level are... I'm just not gonna make more comments about that. I don't like your graphics, as I don't think they fit at all.

I've been looking forward to playing this hack.
So... I've completed the first world, and I'm currently at the Deku Tree, and I'm stuck. What do I do here..? I had a blue P switch, and I used it there because if I went down underwater I'd find another blue P switch (and I don't think I need two at the same time, or..?), and those coins appeared. I just can't figure out what to do now... Is there something I'm overlooking, I have to do first, or am I just at some completely wrong place?

But, what I've played through until now is really good, in my opinion, about the level design and all. Great job!
