You know, I've got games upon games that I've yet to beat and/or play and I still feel a bit hungry for something retro. You know, play something that I've probably long since forgot about and need a revival for. So...I just made this thread to help that particular craving.
In other words, I need some ideas on some old, long since killed, good games to play. I'll start with my own: 1. Donkey Kong '94 - (Super) Game Boy - I know that there are newer 'versions' of this game since the redone version premiered on the GBA but there just didn't seem to be one made that could ever capture the spirit of the original. I could easily blow two hours beating the whole thing without taking a break and have loads of fun playing it. God knows that the whole 'getting the best time' for every single level was a clever hook for draining the time out of my younger years. Now I wonder why I'm so old so fast now. :\ |

2. Revenge of the Gator (Game Boy)
I just played it the other day against a friend, It was a lot of fun. Sure the second best pinball game that ever hit the Game Boy (The best is Pokémon Pinball). And DK '94 is one of my favorite GB-Games. Next to Wario Land II and Tetris DX. |

3. Mickey Mania (SNES)
I just downloaded the ROM for this last weak and remembered why I had so much fun with it when I was younger. Beautiful graphics, high difficulty, very unique, and lovely music. Makes you wonder where gems like this go *sigh* I haven't played either of the two other games mentioned. I'm slacking |

Pinball Quest, one of my favorite NES games that I never play anymore outside of doing that TAS of it
RBI Baseball, as well... mostly because I couldn't get anyone else to play with |

Mickey Mania enrages me so... The entire game was just a setup for an advertisement for "Runaway Brain". There is no ending, man. The game has no ending, just an advertisement telling you to go see Mickey's newest cartoon.
Now, as far as good, old games go, I've gotta go with Kirby's Star Stacker for Game Boy, or maybe Spike McFang for SNES. Now that's a nifty little adventure game. It's a bit along the lines of Pocky and Rocky, but not so much a shooter as those two games are... Just a top down dungeon crawler with a kid vampire who can hurl his hat around like a frisbee. |

Originally posted by Hiryuu A-freaking-men. Mario vs. Donkey Kong captured the style of that game (and then some), but in terms of straight gameplay Donkey Kong 94 was boss. Want to know what I mean? Compare the final bosses. MvDK has better music, graphics, and neat little things going on all over, but DK94's was more fun. And the levels show an even more drastic degeneration... DK94 had significantly better levels. (edited by Glyph Phoenix on 12-29-06 05:38 PM) |

Micky Mania! Wait, I don't think that's the same thing as Micky Mouses Magical Adventure, or something like that ... is it? Guess I'll just have to look into that (I loved that game as a kid).
Donkey Kong '94 was AMAZING. I've been trying to find it forever, but haven't had much luck. I will definitely say its superior to Mario vs Donkey Kong in just about everyway. MvDK wasn't bad or anything, but not nearly as good as DK94. 6. Base Wars (NES) - Boy I'd love to own an actual copy of this game. What other game lets you play Baseball as giant destructive robots, and allows you to fight one and one and destroy them with? This is it, Base Wars. The best sports game ever. 7. Yoshi for NES. Maybe it's just because I like 8-bit music and puzzle games, but I still can't get enough of this game today, despite how simple it is.
And I don't think Bubble Bobble even needs to be mentioned. |

Goof Troop (Snes) while not that retro was fun to play.
I remember playing it with my friend (it was a co-op game) and finally managing to beat it. Fun times. (edited by Darkdata on 12-31-06 11:38 AM) |

I think the original Star Fox game on the SNES was great, because it used the super FX chip to make it a 3D game on a 2D console.
anyway another of mine is that on the original NES, there were these TMNT games, and one at the end had schredder just stand there, while u kill him. All u do was hit him 50 times and he died. |

Originally posted by Alice Goof Troop was amazing. I catch it at random times whenever I flip b Disney Channel. Good game that collected dust eh... I'd have to say Aladdin for Genesis. I had that game for a long time. I also remember my dad bringing home a floppy disk that would let me play it on the computer through DOS. He had come back from a military where a guy was selling them. It wasn't til' years later when I started rom hacking that I knew about emulators. My dad go kinda' pissed that he bought pirated stuff on a military base that shouldn't let pirates in. |

Firepower 2000, an amazing top-down shooter on the SNES and Genesis, and sequal to "Silkworm" on the Amiga and Commodore 64. On other consoles, Firepower 2000 was realeased as "SWIV" (stands for Silkworm: 4).
The levels were long and fun, the weapons were cool, and bosses were challenging. I love it, but I haven't played it in a while. *sigh* *pops in FP2000* |

hmm...
ufouria? (NES) That is one awesome but rarely heard of game. Puggsy, genesis. I bring that up in every conversation like this Bubble & Squeak, amiga & genesis. tubular game, man. every bomberman ever is great, but seemingly underplayed by the masses, worth a mention anyways. dragon crystal, gamgear (also released on the master system, but you can run in the GG version :p) roguelike, first I ever played. I got more, can't think of them at the moment, though. |

How retro are we talking here? If you're including some of the later SNES games, then SMRPG and Kirby Superstar were my faves. Funnily enough, I never owned either myself, but rented/borrowed quite a bit.
Oh, and I second Donkey Kong '94 and Super Mario Land, too. |
