I recently got this game for the DS, and after reading some really good reviews about it, it should be good. Been playing for about an hour so far, and I'm liking it. The story seems a little like your typical Final Fantasy story right now, but I'm sure it will pick up. The graphics seem Grandia-styled in a way, but very cute and pleasing to the eye. The music is pretty good too - seems rather soft. It looks rather promising.
Does anyone else have this game? Any good or bad reviews on it? I personally think it's good so far, but hell, it could turn out to be crap (doubtful) |

Adamant already made one of these: http://board.acmlm.org/thread.php?id=8212. I really liked the original, though, and the DS version should be even better.

I have it . Except my brother let one of his friends borrow it for the holiday break .
It is pretty fun based on how far I have gone (which is not that very far ). If you have gone far enough you can send messages to friends via Nintendo WFC. Although it's a pain in the ass to write anything. You can unlock good stuff by sending 7 messages to anyone using WFC (which is what I am doing right now). Too bad you have to wait 1 hour to send another message to anyone unless you change the time in the DS . Gameplay wise: The areas look good and the controls are good. That is all I have to say right now. Sounds: Uhh... I can't remember them . Overall it is a good game. EDIT: Damn, I didn't see Dr_Death's post. (edited by Kirby Mario on 12-28-06 11:36 PM) |

And reviews by people who can't wait for a translation into their own language tend to be rather skewed. As I stated in IRC as well, if you are suggesting he perform a three month bump instead of the accepted practice of making a new thread asking people's opinions, then uh. I would disagree on that point. (edited by Alastor on 12-28-06 11:46 PM) |

Topic validity aside, I find this game rather entertaining.
I've gotten a bit more into the game, have characters around 18. Thinking about changing my classes though. Right now, I have two warriors, and a white and black mage. Them black belts are looking mighty tempting to convert to... |

I actually didn't see it .. probably because yeah, it was three months old
Dr_Death: You said there is an original to this game? I thought this was a new Final Fantasy .. is it actually just a remake of one I never played? Or did you just mean FF3/6 for the SNES? |

Originally posted by MidnaI have beaten the original NES version, which wasn't released in the U.S.. It was quite good, marked the beginning of the job system, and was a huge step up from I and II in the series, but it was quite flawed at the same time as far as gameplay was concerned. From what I've seen, this one is quite different as far as Final Fantasy remakes go (playable characters now have names and personalities, tag-along NPCs now have attacks, etc.) but I think it is about the same game in premise. |

Correct. It was the only Final Fantasy game never to hit the states, as FF 2 and 4 were released in another compilations, or something to that sort.
So yeah, this is a completely different game than the "Final Fantasy III" Read: VI that hit our shores back in the SNES era. |

Oh ok. I never played any of the NES FFs, only the SNES and beyond, so this game should be fun to beat.
Thexare: Wasn't there a FFV for the SNES too? I thought one was released in 1992. |

I have it, but I preferred the original (I downloaded a translated rom).
I despise them Spoiler:
making the onion knight a secret class and lowering the power of the ninja and sage Also, I think the 4 brothers was kind of cooler. Spoiler:
it also made more sense when you saw the 4 fake heroes... they looked alike and so did you at one point. not to mention the fact that they Spoiler: ruined the whole fake heroes scenario by making the townspeople know they were fakes. in the NES version, they thought YOU were the fakes, if I remember correctly. I picked this up around the time it came out.
... haven't played it yet. I bought FFV Advance at the sametime, and just decided to start playing that first I guess, and I've been tied up with other games. But yeah, I should definitely play this game sometime. |

Is this a "must have title" or can I be all awesome like and get another title for my forecoming DS?

This is a decent game... but I haven't touched it much since I bought it. See, I bought Portrait of Ruin the same day. I played FF III first and made decent progress. PoR has entertained me much more thoroughly. But this game is not bad per se. (edited by MathOnNapkins on 01-13-07 12:51 AM) |
