| ...this is the only one that requires schedule 20 PVC pipe, and aerosol deodorant.
Today, I made a potato gun. And although I'll admit I'm often easily amused, I have to say shooting a spud at 300 mph is a very enjoyable experience. It's also incredibly dangerous. I shot one at a brick wall 30 feet away, and the potato just disintegrated. Firing it sounds like a shot gun. Even if it never occurred to you that you might want to use potatoes as ammunition, I highly recommend giving it a try. I loosely followed plans in Popular Mechanics, but I'm sure there are decent plans on the internet. Although if you've never assembled PVC pipe, I suggest getting help from some who has, having the gun blow apart in your hands probably isn't fun. |

| So do you use peeled potatoes? Unpeeled? Do you have to wash them? It sounds like a cool thing to have but I thought they were illegal.
Also, reading the thread title I could help but think of this |

| There's no need to peel or wash the potatoes, unless you actually intend on making mashed potatoes. You chamfer the end of the barrel to a sharp edge, then just force the potato in. The edge cuts off excess, to create a good seal for compression. Then you just push it down to the end of the barrel with a dowel rod or something.
I just checked, and they're legal in most US states, as well as most other countries. So in other words in the state of Michigan, a device that launches 1 by 3 inch projectiles at 300 mph is completely legal, but don't get caught with a roman candle. |

| My brother's friend's friend once made a potato cannon using PVC pipe, Axe, and Duct Tape.
He used it to hit cows. One potato ricocheted off of a tree. |

| Old.
Last year for science fair, someone I know made a potato cannon.
Its a perfect way to make clean, rectangular frenchfries (Use a tennis racket ) |
