I'm sitting here in my VB class, and can't help but think: "This is getting pretty boring" Have thoughts on VB that you want to share with the world? This is the place to do it. Have fun!!

VB blows. We signed up for this class in the hopes that we would learn how to make games. Yet we have had no promises. No nothing. We did nothing of the sort in QB either.

I'm pretty much coughing my lungs out in VB. I think we need to just skip to the good stuff.

I love it. VB Classic. Still use it to this day.

I don't like flame wars, though. These kinda threads tend to spark 'em up real nice. Just a warning.

If you want a good site for such programs like that, then go to pixel2life.com (sorry, I can't make clickable URLS anymore).

The only real problem I had with VB was with VB4 32-bit. You couldn't use arrays that were elements of user-defined types with the file I/O statements Get and Put. Other than that, I've done some nice things with VB.

VB is good for beginners but just too restrictive and limited for me.

HH (Alice) is right, VB is nice for newcomers to programming. It lets you visually edit the windows while at the same time using standard code..

txtBoxName.Text = "Randy" 'Real simple crap

Real basic stuff. Its neat to mess around with and stuff and get really "proficient" at it.

I found it to be nice because it gives you the basic layout, which is good when you're just learning. And trying to do the same thing in notepad or something reminds me just how lovely it is not to have to set up everything every time. Then again, I could be lazy and just copy and paste that.

One thing I didn't like about it at school was that the computers there couldn't always handle it, so it would freeze up. But that was a computer issue, not an issue with the program. xD;

I liked how it automatically saved while I was 'building', so that if it did freeze up afterward, I at least had that save to go back to. I fail at remembering to save regularly. :x

I don't know how I'll feel about it if I ever reach a more advanced level with programming and such, but for now, I think it's lovely. :o

I find VB not at all restricting. Private Declare whatever FTW.

Also, I never seem to have problems with speed. Or audio. Or anything else with VB6.

I'd like to reiterate that VB needn't be used for simple things; it's capable of much more in-depth applications as well. That link I posted a few messages ago is to a level editor for an N64 game, complete with 3D preview using OpenGL.

Without any intention of glorifying myself (and believe me, it's gonna sound like it), I can make the observation that most of the programmers on this site likely don't have the required expertise to make software of the such regardless of the language they're using. Since it was done in VB, I think that goes to show a lot for what VB's true worth really is.

Even heard of an IDE? That's what alot of programmers use instead of notepad in other programming languages.

Meh, I refuse to use a language that is only limited to one platform btw. That's my take on it.

Which is why Ailure uses Java. Drives on any terrain, but at a speedy cost.

At this point, I don't think I'm advanced enough with programming to need anything else. >>;

I'm just learning (as in, just starting to learn) very basic stuffs. *nod*

Sure, you can do advanced things in VB, but it's a pain without having access to window message pumps and being able to do multithreading (at least, not without a lot of frustration or silly third-party addons). I wrote a simple Game Boy emulator I need to finish in VB and got about 1 frame per second. Ported to C it wasn't much better, but as soon as I tweaked how window messages were handled - something I couldn't do in VB - it flew to like 120FPS.

No pointers = as well.

Yeah, the auto-save was a lifesaver when I experimented with things like multithreading and subclassing and frequently crashed the IDE, or created an infinite message box loop, or it just crashed for no real reason.
