Since pretty much all modern SMW hacks feature an updated map, I'd like to try doing a little more than just adding a few unused levels onto a just-for-fun optional area. I don't think LM allows full custom palettes yet, so what might be affected in-game? It's a lot different than level editing... Any simple to understand, and detailed tutorial?
If you know of a space level tileset, I'd like to compare it with my quick hand-made one for seeing which is better. |

Silly overformal man, not knowledgeable in the ways of the "can't find the words" type of n00b.
TRANSLATION: Almost all Super Mario World hacks today have an edited overworld. However, I only want to add a few levels that were unused in the original game into my hack, just for fun. These levels would be completely optional. I am not sure if Lunar Magic has full support for custom palettes. If I were to change the overworld palettes, would it affect anything important in the levels themselves? Editing the overworld is very different from level editing, and I am having trouble figuring it out. Is there any tutorial out there that gives a detailed explanation about editing the overworld AND is easy to understand? If you know of any hacks out there that feature a space tileset, I would like to see a screenshot of it. That way, I can compare it to my hand-made one, just to see which is better. To answer your second question, yes, to some degree. BMF54123's hack has a spaceship tileset. A SML2 remake someone is making (not Sgraff87) will inevitably have Space Zone, and therefore, will have a space tileset. For your first question, don't worry. Go wild with the palettes on the overworld. As long as you only change the colors that vary between the palettes of submaps, you'll be fine. (edited by asdf on 12-10-05 02:51 AM) |

Wow, I'm sure not that knowledgable for a long time user here. I'll just have to experiment. The least that can go wrong is having to restore my rom from it's backup. Away to the Lunar Magic! |
