Here's the espn article with video.

Okay, so if you don't know, the Nuggets and Knicks got into a little scuffle the other day (saturday). Now, I'm all for a player sticking up for his teammates when someone gets a cheap shot but come on, that foul was barely anything that needed to be thought about. Yeah, it was flagrant, or more so, intential, but only a flagrant 1, not a flagrant 2. I think that if the Knicks really wanted to turn some heads then he would've waited for his man to get off the ground before tossing him down. I guess it's just me, but I've seen people take cheaper shots and not have anything happen to them. And what is up with Melo, the whole thing's calmed down and he just sucker punches that guy, what an idiot. Lemme know what y'all think, was that foul really anything to get worked up over?

And to clarify, we're not voting on whether or not the foul was a flagrant, because it was, he didn't go for the ball, but whether or not that foul was so bad that a fight should've even passed through their minds.

I'm sort of torn, because it was a shitty foul, there's no doubt about that, and I love seeing anything that might make David Stern blush...

But, the Knicks were getting screwed, and the Nuggets had their starters still in. I would imagine I would do something like that (the arm around the neck), only more subtle, just so the dunk wouldn't have taken place. It was a matter of respect, and I buy that.

The Nuggets, now with their rep tarnished, thought it would be hardcore to get into a pushing match/see how big their dicks are. Maybe if they had left it at that, just a little yelling, a push or two, the Nuggets wouldn't have lost any face. But, shit escalates because the Knicks were still pissed about the whole disrespect situation, and then Melo threw that bitch punch...

So I guess no, the foul shouldn't have equated to a fight, but hey...that's the culture these days.

It's the kind of foul where you see it and can pretty much assume there will be some sort of scuffle, if not a total fight. However, that doesn't mean it SHOULD even pass through their minds... I think the NBA has a gang-like mentality on the court, and it shows with this sort of thing. It's either players not considering consequences, or simply ignoring the consequences because they believe they are 'above the law' as sports stars. It's sad, really.

Well I wouldn't go that far. It's the heat of the moment, not that they think they're the shit, although I'm sure they do, but it's not like that flashes before them prior to rumbling.

I mean, I was involved in a similar situation on Thanksgiving three years ago. It was football, not basketball, and high school football, not the pros, but it was the same idea. Some dirty stuff went down, our team retaliated with violence. Nobody thought of the consequences, because we were being macho and defending each other and our school's honor (which, sounds really cheesy, I know, but it's true).

Wasn't a bad foul but MAN is the NBA going to overreact thanks to what happened the last time.

Carmelo's screwed. :\

Dr_Death I hear where you're coming from saying that it never SHOULD happen. The thing is, coming from the mindset of a basketball player (and I played in some of the gulliest gyms) I still can't see why that fight started. Maybe a little jawing at eachother, but nothing more. And Stern and the NBA are going to come down hard on these guys, cause hell, that's what the dictator does.

I'd threaten to kill you all, but it's not all that obvious that this is the official NBA thread. Besides, this is a poll about just one topic that'll get discussion. Mills?

I'll allow it!

So yeah, there's the issue of punishment.

Carmelo Anthony: 15 games
J.R. Smith: 10 games
Nate Robinson and His Napoleon Complex: 10 games
Mardy Collins: 6 games
Jared Jeffries: 4 games
Nenê: 1 game
Jerome James: 1 game

Also, both teams got fined $500K each, and the Nuggets had to trade for Allen Iverson*.

* This may not have had anything to do with the fussin' and a-feudin'.
