Sonic 1 NEW STUFZ is a hack of Sonic 1 for the Genesis that I'm making. If you're a member at the SSRG or S2B, you already know about this. Here are some screenshots:

This logo replaces the Sonic Team Presents screen.

Video of the Insta-Shield which I coded into S1 for this hack. To activate it, jump and press A while in the air.

Title screen. Note that you can select multiple characters.

Sonic getting hurt in an unnamed desert zone.

Self-explanatory.

This is a tentative layout for Act 2 of the desert zone with no objects. Unfortunately, SonED2 wiped the Act 2 layout for some reason, meaning this layout can't be used.

This is the current release, featuring the things shown in the screenshots above (except for Act 2).

Questions and comments are welcome.

The IPS is bigger than the original S1 ROM. =P

Edited anyway.

We make exceptions for hacks like this, since the IPS itself would contain 99% (or some other remarkably high) amount of the ROM anyway.

Hence, the ROM here is fine.

(we should update the rules)

Re-edited the post to include the actual ROM. You should be able to play it now, mikepjr.

Also, something I forgot to mention in my original post about the ROM; there are a few collision issues with pointy slopes that can cause Sonic to get stuck in the ground. These have been fixed.

I ported the spindash from S2 to my hack, using parts from the S2 Nick Arcade Disassembly and the S2 Final disassembly. Video above.

Also, I'd really like some feedback on everything. =P

Porting stuff from the Nick Arcade disassembly? Are you thinking of adding the bounce-against-walls thing? Your levels seem to be designed as such that it wouldn't throw them off as it might in other hacks.

The title screen is very nice. The desert zone I played was somewhat enjoyable. I disliked the background, however, and the zone seemed a little oddly designed at times. It just didn't feel like Sonic very much. That's one of the grievances I usually have with Sonic hacks: it's especially the case when it comes to enemies. Metal Sonic's graphics aren't finished, but I'm aware that will be corrected in the future. Besides that, it seemed all right. I'll be looking forward to seeing progress on this hack in the future.

@Imajin: Personally, I never really liked the bouncing against the walls effect. It just slows things down, which goes against the prospect of Sonic: speed.
