Just a bit curious, has anybody outside of Australia heard any Aussie Hip Hop?
And if you have, what do you think of it? I come from Adelaide, the same place as the Hilltop Hoods (who came from the Blackwood area of Adelaide). My brother knows one of the MCs, Suffa too. Recently they have won Triple J's "J Award" for the best album of 2006 for their album "The Hard Road". I like the Hilltop Hoods. I'm not big on Hip Hop really, but I don't tend to mind Aussie Hip Hop, and it seems to have matured/improved a lot from when I first started to hear it. I can't relate to American Hip Hop much, but I can certainly relate to lyrics about going out and having a few drinks, and the like Just curious if anyone outside of Australia has heard any of it. |

The fact that Augie March's Moo You Bloody Choir got beaten by this for the J Award makes me very sad and disdainful.
Also, I doubt anyone outside Australia has heard our hip-hop because I doubt anyone's that interested in what a bunch of middle-class Australians have to say which might possibly add to the genre. (edited by Arwon on 12-11-06 04:46 AM) |

I liked Moo You Bloody Choir too, but I noticed only one song got repeated airplay on JJJ really, so it's no surprise that it didn't get that award. I didn't hear much get real high rotation airplay.
Whatever was going to get the award I assumed was going to be something that's had a few songs on high rotation airplay. The Hard Road has had a lot of songs on high rotation airplay now, including the title track. And yes, I was a bit unsure on whether many people outside of Australia have heard much Aussie Hip Hop, but considering that the Hilltop Hoods have recently been overseas (are still overseas?) I was curious. |
