Can you imagine, Adolf Hitler in a race car, racing against other World War II leaders? You can just picture him getting zapped by a lightning bolt, and proceeding to scream angrily in German as he misses the shortcut on the beach course.
All absurdity aside, I'm not joking about. Hitler really did have a race car. The vehicle was designed in 1933 after Hitler offered half a million dollars to a company to design a race car to show off how technologically advanced Germany was at the time. Six years later, they ended up with the 1939 "Auto Union D-Type" sports car. It was very advanced for its day, except it didn't have safety features. The one I speak of is of five remaining in the world. This vehicle was intended to show off the future of racing. It is very similar in nature to modern Formula 1 racers, minus the safety features of course. It's going on auction in Paris in February of 2007, where it is expected to sell for the highest price ever paid for an automobile at an auction (although only for the technological aspect - at least, that's what the article says. ). You can read the full story at the news article here. |

Say "modern safety features," not just "safety features." It gives the wrong impression

That is one of the funniest things I ever heard. Trying to imagine Hitler racing people in the middle of Intro to Programming is an amusing thing to say the least.

Well Hitler... even if he was "good" or "bad" he was and is a big part of history. So owning something that was intended to be for Hitler and his regime.... its just.. fascinating...
I do want to see how much it sells for, that will be pretty interesting. (edited by Randy53215 on 12-06-06 01:31 PM) |

WTF? This thread made me dream I woke up in an alternate reality where Germany had won WWII, making everything slightly worse and rearranged today. I stole my dad's truck (pissed him right off) to go look for a way back to the real world along with a few friends of mine who just kinda disappeared at some point.
Then I dreamed I was in the beach level in Banjo-Kazooie (rearranged somewhat, and literally in it, playing with toy cars in the sand with those same people) and noticed the haunted house level's music was playing. Yeah, weird. I should point out to any Germans here that the content of my dreams rarely reflects my opinion or reality in general in any way, shape or form, and that I have no opinion or clue as to what the world would be like had Germany won WWII. Whoah, that is some funny stuff right there. I've had some pretty weird dreams too. None about Germany though, or anything quite like that. This whole thing reminds me of Rat Race in which one guy took Hitler's car from the Nazi museum and ended up at a WWII veteran's gathering. He had burnt his tongue with the cigarette lighter and there was lipstick on his lip that looked like Hitler's 'stache from an earlier incident as well. One of the veterans shot at him because they thought he was really Hitler.

Yeah, too many gullible people on eBay. You could probably pick up a rock off the ground and paint something vaguely like a historical figure and sell it on eBay for good sum.

I've had some pretty weird dreams about germans and nazi's and adolf hitler. But not about a bear with a bird in a backpack at the beach level. and yes there are guillable people at ebay buying fake historical crap.
