il say sorry now for the idiotic post now, just in hand.

Im learning, well figuring out php based off hand of expermenting and playing around,
would playing or chaning code on other forum code
like Vbullitien, phpbb, invision, worth my time? since i know its all php, but is there a diffrent barrer sorrounding each version, aka since there all named diffrently.
I dont really want to get a diffrent pack and learn how each one reacts diffrently to diffrent code and then find out, what ive lernt, is worthless.

thanks in advance

There's nothing wrong with playing with the code. You will learn about PHP, which can be transferred to another package, even if the exact code can't be.

I believe some of those have comment tags, which will help you understand more...

IE:

$variable = array("Red", "Orange", Green", "Blue"); // This is an array. // labels that its a comment tag...

Reading code and its comments will help you understand what that function/code is doing.

Doing small changes in VBB is how I got started with PHP, 6 years ago ... I learned it fast too, and some MySQL at the same time

Other board systems might be coded and structured differently, but as long as they still use PHP, you'll probably be learning just as well

AB is a lot simpler than PHPBB/Vbulletin(
while diving into code and screwing around is a great way to learn, you should start with something simpler and cleaner.

And a reference book on PHP/MySQL (your local library might actually have a few on PHP and other languages as well... mine does.) would be very helpful in explaining things you can't figure out by editing.

A printed tutorial could also suffice.

I dunno, I just learned better at first that way. Now I dive into code (usually with c/c++) and figure out what things do by fooling around. It all depends on your initial learning style. Once you get the basics down, I find editing other code is a great way to learn.
