Ok, to start things off, I have no idea on a title. =P

Screens:

Here's the title screen. Nothing interesting here.

Setting up the story... Sounds like Sonic, he takes a vacation, gets interrupted by a crazed madman/lizard bent on world domination.

Here is the start of the game map. It's due for a makeover, but I'm too lazy to do that part right now. =P

Here comes a message, one that I plan to stick to.

SMB3 pipes, thanks to SpellWerdzRite for cracking and distributing the code.

Here comes the second place.

Original? Yes. Is it gonna stay? Kinda: I no longer have "Emerald City" in this mod, so I'll change it to something else.

You were warned... =P

Pipe dwelling Lakitu and goombas, basically.

Another idea which I've yet to see: Ghost Field.

Here's another shot, showing both ghosts and normal guys.

This one shows smashable bricks, thanks to MikeyK's Block Tool.
It's not based around snazzy new art or innovative technical ideas, but whatever. =P

Questions, comments? I am aware that the item box is messed up, and I have NO idea how to fix it.

Check back a few pages and you'll find a thread by me about the Item Box. I was told how to fix it and thankfully, it fixed it. I don't remember what the offsets were, though. O_o It looks nice right now, but I thought I was the only one with no idea on a title for my hack. XD Seriously, I'm terrible at names. Unless they're for small areas. Those I can do easily.

Oh yes, a question:

Can I have a demo? (You should've known this was coming. If you did, a cookie for you.)

Well, as for the demo, there is one more level I wanna finish before I give out demos, but since you asked nicely, I'll let you have the demo soon.

Also, thanks for telling me about that topic, I hope I can get this thing fixed.

You're welcome. I like to play hacks (though I do try to make them) a lot, so I'll be looking forward to this one.

You could name the game after the region in which it takes place... Maybe "Super Mario: Adventure in Ocean Shire?" (That's probably just the name of the first world, though, huh? Well, you get the idea)

Why is there a big square of blank grass in the middle of the road?

  1. That could almost suffice for a joke title.
  2. Decent plot, though I notice you didn't change the level at all.
  3. Bit plain, hill mid-path looks bad, big gap looks even worse.
  4. Nice BG colours here.
  5. Looks alright.
  6. Not much different from the first OW shot.
  7. Nice idea here.
  8. And again.
  9. The grass is good, and I like the Shyguy's hairdo.
  10. Mario, Yoshi, dirt, a pipe, and some Munchers. What's the point of this shot?
  11. Neat.
  12. Nice use of regular enemies and ghosts at the same time, I rarely see that.
  13. Cool. How well do those blocks work though? I found them much too sensitive (this was with the old BLKTOOL though).

mikeyk didn't made Block Tool; jonwil did.

As for the hack, the levels themselves look decent, but the overworld is horribly messy.

My mistake about Block Tool, I labeled it wrong when I downloaded it.

As for the big space in the middle of the road, that was originally going to be "Emerald City", but I suck at art. =P Besides, the overworld is long overdue for a makeover.

The breakable bricks are good enough for my liking, they aren't too sensitive in my opinion.

The cobrat's don't spit out shy-guys, although thats what it might look like in that shot. They spit out normal Spinys, although I should change those to the hedgehogs/porcupines from SMB2.

As for changing the opening level, any suggestions? I've got nothing, other than maybe Yoshi's house.

Also: The item box was fixed. As for the title, I like the sound of Adventure in Ocean Shire. I might consider it, or something like it.

You mean the level with the intro message? Have the level look like Mario's on a beach or something. Put the same thing on Yoshi's house, and find a way to use the Switch Blocks to gain access to a secret or something.

Glad you got the item box fixed! But, uh... Be careful with the pipes. They're bugged. Especially when you have a cape. O_o By the way, I've seen what you've done to Sonic games. I'd like to see you take SMW to a whole new level if you can.

I would, if I could fully understand the ASM... this is much harder than 68K. =P

Yeah, same here. All in all, your hack looks great now. While I have yet to try ASM, I understand some basics:

1: To make a custom block, there's some routines that SMW has at certain offests. Call those at certain times to use their effects. Depending on how you use them, you could end up with a custom block no one has thought of before.
2: Custom Sprites are harder. You'd have to have a complex code in an ASM file, and I have yet to figure out those things. Basically, ASM for Custom Sprites simply modifies an existing sprite. I'm sure that the Poison Shroom sprite is just a modification of the normal Super Mushroom sprite that does the opposite of normal- Hurts you instead of making you Super/Big Mario/Luigi.
3: Custom Powerups are the hardest. As of yet, few people have made custom powerups. Ghettoyouth has, though, but it's a modification of the Cape to make you bounce up every time you press Y/X, though it was only used in one single level, and you couldn't take it out of the level...
4: ASM hacks are different. You'd need the LevelASM patch for that, but you can make some really cool effects with it. Ever seen the cool custom boss battle in BMF's Super Mario Odyssey?

If you try to learn how to make them, you can easily make your hack better. ASM isn't supposed to be hard to learn- It's supposed to look hard to do. Seriously, ALL hacks benefit from custom blocks, custom sprites, and ASM hacks. Now, Custom Powerups are generally avoided, because of their complexity. But what if you were to make something that no one else had ever thought of? Just a thought. By the way, is the demo ready yet?

The demo should be ready soon. I've got all the levels done except the first Ghost House, where you'll fight against one of the bosses. That and I wanna remake the overworld, cause it's horibbly incomplete as of now. =P

New art for the overworld. I'll need to fix up the less detailed sprites, though. Tiles from FFV, ripped by me. It was rather annoying putting forth so much effort to get these bastards in. =P I just realized that good water effects will be very hard to pull off with this tile set. =/

After finishing that area of the overworld to my liking, and edit the ghost house, I should release a demo.

He ripped graphics from another game. It's a nice touch, and does give his game a nicer and more unique feel, but really guys, it isn't amazing. It's been done before...
