If you have any particular requests for what we should add, suggestions on rules and how to enforce them, etc, please..
- Post them in this thread
- Come on IRC and discuss them there
- Or request information on joining the MoonEdit session, where we're working on a new one.

Well obviously, your new &tag&, maybe what the new colors mean (the permabanned and being red), I was thinking you should try to mention why Acmlm's Board requires approval, but no one will probably read it. Then again, the FAQ is intended for those who actually do care, so it might be beneficial to put it in there. Also, post a link to Acmlm.org and the AcmlmWiki so they can get some more info about the site, ACS, Mosts, etc.

Good ideas

I think I'm going to change the way registration works a little -- Instead of having it simply auto-redirect you after registering, it'll just leave you with a "Thanks for registering" page and a link to the FAQ.

The forum rules will be on a sepoerate page, and made obvious by the registration and FAQ pages.

"How to pronounce Acmlm" should be in the FAQ.

That question has been asked who knows how many times.

EDIT: Also, the forum links in the FAQ needs to be fixed. Help/Suggestions links to Officer's Club, Modern Art links to General Gaming, and the Newbie forum should link to this thread instead of a forum that doesn't exist.

One line that needs to be included somewhere "If you're about to create a new thread, make sure there isn't already another existing thread with the exact same subject"

FAQ Rule One: PLEASE. ASK FOR ROMS!!!
WE LOVE PEOPLE WHO ASK FOR ROMS!!!

FAQ Rule Two: Get to know the staff. If you don't, you will surely be banned eventually because you weren't well known and you fucked up.

FAQ Rule Three (For real now): Start off slow, do not post as much as you can to get your postcount up or make others think you're cool. People who post little take longer to become known, but in the end they are fun to be around and post with. Think of the board like a friendship in real life. Ease in slowly and become friends with everyone and you will be respected fully.

I think the FAQ should have information on how to use attachments. Also, some rules that should be added or updated:

- Making birthday threads of banned/permabanned users is not allowed.
- Bumping threads is not allowed unless you're the one who created that thread and you're updating or adding meaningful information.
- You can double post in a thread if no one has replied to it in more than 24 hours.
- Don't expect rom hacking to be easy.

Bullshit. I don't think I even have to say why this is bullshit, but I will anyway.

We're asking people to correctly use the language that they've been using most of their life (note: we go easy on non-native speakers). We're not even asking for perfect grammar, we just don't like people who can't take a few seconds to fully type out their words or construct a readable sentence. That's not the equivalent of saying every autistic person can learn to speak another language, and I don't know what the hell you were on when you came up with the idea that it was.

Even a bad mastery of English is no excuse for typing things like "ur smrt".

AOL speak to me isn't about somebody's ability to spell -- it's a time / laziness thing. And sure, it might be appropriate in some contexts. I don't think the forum is one of those though.

I'm pretty sure people are still taught in school how to spell and write properly, well enough to communicate on a web forum.

Ok, so what about ESL kids? How about them? I know many people who use the "AOL Speak" terminology even in their writing at school, but they cannot help themselves because it makes more sense to say "ur" than "You're". In their languages, such words are not as complicated, it's spelled with as little letters as needed.

EDIT: Yeah, I didn't see that little part in Thexare's post regarding foreign people. However, my point remains that it should be in the FAQ.

Actually, students of a foreign language tend to communicate *better* than those who're native to it.

For example, I can type out fairly coherent sentences in French, but the French version of AOL-speak boggles my mind.

For example, they take c'est and just type "c", which is horribly confusing 'cause half the time it looks like they just accidentally typed the letter c.
