Seriously. This movie is chock full of raw data that will shock even those who already know global warming is a severe problem. It clearly shows that its effects are happing much, much faster than most people realize, and how little is being done about it. I was absolutely astonished at some most of the charts and image comparisons of lakes and glaciers over a time span of only 30-40 years in most cases. It's ridiculous.

I seen similar other documentaries (Bet they translate that documentary to English someday) but never the one that actually started it off.

And before anyone opens their mouth about global worming not happening... well it's not the only "problem" that "might" happen. Such as the fish population decreasing faster than it's reproducing or how the available fresh water only decreases.

When even people in economics says that global warming can bring economical problems... there's a even less reason, it's cheaper to decrease the pollution now than cleaning it up later economically apparently.

This is why we need to invest in space colonies. And then we can move out into outer space, and have cool donut-cities with streets that go a full rotation. And then we could brag about how much better off we have it then those on planet Earth, and we'd piss them off. So they'd try to take over our colonies in a fit of "justice" using weapons of uber leetness. And thensome renegade scientist would oppose them by developing super mechs out of gundanium alloy and giving them to self-detonation trigger-happy pilots of different ethnic backgrounds and cultures...

Or we could all just pull our heads out of our consecutive asses and ride our goddamn bikes down the street instead of driving a quarter of a mile. But then there would go our mobile suits.

I found this to be equally informative counterpoint to documentaries like Al Gore's. I don't like the idea of scoffing at Global Warming, but this is a seemingly nonbiased (read: doesn't seem to be a corporate funded film) video that makes some damning points about the Global Warming camp.

I think MathOnNapkin's post pretty much sums up that global warming is bullshit.

Of course, I'm not against cutting back on pollution, either...

Yes they should, because I am fucking sick of people saying the polar ice caps are melting due to the sun getting closer to the earth because the solar system is collapsing. Dumb fools.

Yep, and the movie addresses that common argument. There is a natural cycle in which CO2 levels rise and fall and temperature goes up and down. The medieval warming period was proof of this. But this argument is flawed. There's a chart in the movie that clearly shows why, but I don't have the disc handy to grab a screenshot. It clearly shows temperatures going up and down every hundred years or so... then blasting off through the fucking roof starting in 1970. The effects we're seeing now are far, far beyond those of the natural cycle.

[edit] Google has some charts showing the same info. Here's a perfect example:

This clearly shows CO2 has been going up and down for 650,000 years (as far back as we can record). But check out the giant leap at the end.

Other charts showing similar trends:

This one appears to show just a normal cycle... but look at the very end. The increase is so huge the line is practically vertical.

A version of the one above zoomed in on the last 1000 years.

(For sources, just go the websites the images are hosted on. )

This is exactly the kind of issue the movie addresses and exactly the type of info it shows. It debunks a lot of common myths just like this one.

I wouldn't call that a very good argument. Bush is a politician, and here in the US at least, politicians are seen as more often than not trying to say what benefits them/their party the most, regardless of what they actually think and act on.

As for the rest of the debate, leave me the fuck out of it.

You can't be serial about this.

On another note, there was a recent study that water is contributing to global warming more than CO2. I don't know a net link to such an article, though.

Seconded for the win. And and the mobile suits have nuclear reactors so if you kill a pilot be sure not to hit the reactor.

It's so weird, my cousin has been talking about this movie for a week straight and I JUST got back from his house.

From what he told me, scientific evidence has proven the effects are coming in due time. It's unanimous amongst the scientific community. However, the media are the ones who try to downplay it.

Remember that when the US spearheaded the ban on CFCs, the hole in the ozone layer got patched up. The most fundamental idea is that once people actually work together to fix problems we can actually do something about them.

Otherwise we are fucked.

No one here is a climatologist, meteorologist, oceanographer, or really have any background on the subject at all beyond maybe a few classes. So if you don't really buy the idea of global warming, it doesn't mean the vast majority of all the hundreds of researchers and scientists in the field are wrong. You are.

Yeah, it touched on that too. Ice sheets in the Arctic and Antarctic (?) act as giant mirrors reflecting a lot of heat. As they melt, more of this surface area is instead covered by water, which absorbs the heat instead.

I dont believe in Global Warming and the "morons" (scientists) that seem to blow the shit out of it to make it look like your going to die tomorrow or even as soon as they make it seem.

I also love how people think that with the polar caps melting everyone will be flooded in one day.... think about that.

You haven't read a single serious paper...have you? Have you? I mean...these...fucking christ almighty tits flying in the face of buddha! No scientist has said "OMG TOMORROW POLAR BEARS WILL BURN AND THEY WILL CATCH ON FIRE AND THEY WILL WARM THE PLANET THEN WE ALL DIE!". They are saying that if we don't slow down now then generations (you know...not those people tomorrow) following us will suffer.

Really, I am sitting here laughing my head off because you have the gaul to call them morons and not know shit.
