I've beem downloading via bit torrent for quiet some time but I need to figure a few things out. Is it possible to track a torrent while downloading? If so, is there a way to stop it? I already know that normal downloads can be tracked (that's why I use proxy's most of the time.) I would like to keep myself invisible or at least scramble my IP while downloading if in the case I can be tracked.

It might become against the law for the sites to provide it soon. But yes it is always traceable...

What if I'm currently using a proxy and download a torrent via the new feature in the new Opera browser. Some of my freinds say that it is theoretically possible to be anonymous. What do you guy's think?

The server you download the .torrent from won't know your IP. The people your BitTorrent client connects to will.

Sure it will, here's a line from my own httpd:
194.47.44.243 - - [01/Dec/2006:20:44:27 -0800] "GET /shit.png HTTP/1.1" 200 2287 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; sv-SE; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 lololol/2.0"

Besides, it's a non-issue if you're not violating any copyright/trademark laws in your download.

Well, that's the thing.. you're not doing ANYTHING illegal by downloading that .torrent..

It's JUST a torrent file. Not a music, video, game or anything else.. just a torrent file. If that's all they see you download, they can't sue.

But they can decide to watch you like a hawk. People have been busted before discussing illegal things on the phone because the operator was testing something and accidentally overheard their conversation. *coughBScough*

That's some crappy proxy then.
