My NT domain administrator is watching me. Every time I do things that I'm not supposed to (using regedit, for example) he can see it.

How can I prevent this treachery?

Eh? It's at my school. We all get lappies, and we can basically do with them what we want. But you know... It's no fun if I am watched.

Not that I know how to do this, but even if I did it would be considered cracking and you should figure it out yourself.

If you get to do anything to them you want, install Ubuntu on it. But I doubt that's within the school rules

But anyway, the admins usually only have a thumbnail with all of the desktops displayed at once. Basically don't do anything too flashy to catch their attention (porn sites and the such).

I am allowed to install linux on it if I really want to. The only rule is that all the preinstalled apps (windows, office, etc) must be functional. I could dualboot with linux without problems.

I don't think he can actually view our desktops. Rather, the system reports to the server when I mess with things that normal users shouldn't mess with, like the system registery.

I don't see why it would be considered cracking though, as my administrator doesn't really mind. If you don't want to help me directly, could you at least point me to a website or something that could help me?

You should probably take it up with the network administrators about the monitoring if it bothers you.

You're allowed to install Linux (from where you could edit the Windows registry), but not to edit the registry? WTF? If they're just worried about you breaking something, you should discuss the idea of imaging the hard drives.

It's not like I'm not allowed to edit the registery... It just bothers me that they can see what I am doing. And they already utilize disk images.

But uhh... any help?

You could take over administrator privileges at your own risk.

I have full administrator priviledges over my own pc... and most others...

Our administrator, while not being entirely stupid, have set up the network in some odd way. Every student has his/her own account on the domain server. Every student computer have DOMAIN\Domain Users set to administrator priveledges (well... not mine ). This also makes a lot of funny stuff possible >8D.

But anyway. Somehow, the administrator is able to monitor when our registery is changed, etc. Could it be the AntiVirus program reporting back to the server? I think it is controlled from down there as I am not able to check for updates manually, etc.

So still, any help?

You could watch someone input their password and use their account. :p Since you have administrator priveledges, take it a step further and change your MAC address and computer name to match up with the account you're using. If you can't find a way to avoid the administrator's watchful eye, you could pose as someone you hate. XD

Yes, however, I can't connect to the wireless network with a spoofed MAC address, believe me, I tried.

You can't connect if the spoofed MAC address doesn't match up to the correct login information and computer name. The school probably limits its Wi-fi to certain computers, which is normally done by limiting certain MAC addresses..

You can't just come up with any address. What I'm talking about is using the MAC address of a computer that belongs to the person whose account you'd use. There would be some slight connection problems if you were to both be connected to the network, but it should still work. You couldn't play any online games for much longer than a minute (depending on what the other person was doing), but browsing the web should work fine.

I don't want to use another account. I really just want to prevent my computer from being monitored.

Well the problem with monitoring systems is when they stop working, people generally go see why.

For what reason? Does it really matter what he sees if he thinks you're someone else? If you're that ethical, why do you want to do things that you're not allowed to do?

It's not like I'm not allowed. I just don't like the idea that people can see what's going on on MY computer. A computer is personal. That's all.

well, if it's a valied process and you're an administrator, have you tried ctrl+alt+del;ing and killing off the monitoring process?
