Hello gentleman, this is Nightcrawler. You may or may not have heard of me over the years.
My work mostly entails translation related ROMhacking. My personal page is Nightcrawler's Translation Corporation. I've been in the trade for about 10 years. But that's not what I'm here about.

Anyway, I'm looking for a veteran on this end of the community that is both skilled at what he/she does and has been functional in the community for awhile. The reason is simple:

http://www.romhacking.net

I have been developing a website over the past several months that merges and surpasses content that used to be found on Romhacking.com/.org and The Whirlpool. Beyond that, this site's focus is to serve as a central news source and community site. We have many innovative features not found anywhere else. The entire backend was custom coded by me exclusively for a Romhacking site. We've got an open news system where the public can actually make the news post, a fully categorized and searchable database of documents, translations, and utilities, help wanted ads, community database and more.

I would appreciate if you guys could read the about page;

http://www.romhacking/net/?page=about for additional information.

Right now, the page is slightly biased toward the translation side of the community because that's really all I've know. I'm looking for a veteran or two from THIS side of the community to become a staff member and help reprsent the pure non translation related romhacking community. We need help with a Getting Started section and anything else that your side of the community may need or want on the site.

So, I formally invite you to please take a look at the website and the message board and what everything's all about and let me know if you're interested in helping out.

NOTE: The site is NOT officially open yet, but all sections are up and functional. Feel free to sign up on the message board if you wish to pertake in any devlopment discussions. I really feel we've got some potential with this site to bring the community back together again. It is most likely going to be the next cornerstone of the community. Please don't spread the word too much. The site is still in a pre-launch phase and it's not quite finished and ready to handle the large userbase yet.

Glad to see someone trying valid XHTML, but the urls in your anchor tags need to have all ampersands (&) escaped as "&" or the page won't validate. It should be fairly trivial to modify your PHP to replace & with & where it occurs, though. Great work otherwise.

On the subject of rom hacking -- sorry, I'm pretty new to the community. I've been a lurker since my early internet days since I first discovered Toilet Mario, but I never really tried my hand at anything beyond using level and tile editors.

Thanks. I'm completely aware of all the XHTML issues. I mentioned how the site was not officially open yet. All pages will validate for launch. I am probably one of the biggest supporters of coding your web pages to meet the standards. So, do not worry. Everything will validate, that's for sure. It's currently a work in progress. A nearly work in progress, but still in progress.

I've been around for years and know a ton about this stuff, but I don't have all that much free time at the moment. I was also considering getting a site of this sort going a few months ago, and I even have a mostly complete version of the site from a while ago that I was going to build off of, but it seems you beat me to the punch. I'll consider becoming a staffer, but the time issue may pose a problem. I'll think about it.

I would probably be interested in helping... don't let my current performance and track-record on Zophar's Domain staff speak for my normal performance... obviously that place is a shithole, and Sam is the most un-motivating person to post news for. Ever. . Posting romhacking related news is basically the only reason I wanted to be on ZD staff to begin with, although swamp didn't seem to go with the ideas to rennovate/clense the hack section and divide it into some kind of cohesive page.

I've been interested in romhacking news for quite a while, and as some might remember basically set out to make your romhacking.net, but projects and school get in the way... the system is still in developement, as I think I stated when I contacted you some weeks/months ago.

Hmm... I don't know. On the one hand, this sounds like an interesting thing... on the other, me starting anything new will ultimately end with me neglecting one of my present projects. And that's a lot. (Solar Soundtrack, TwilightRO, my LOLEPICANDHAX SMW hack, my RO map editor, a strategy MMORPG I was coding and probably a lot more I plain off forgot about)
Either way... if you are not interested anyway, I won't even bother trying, but if you are, send me a PM... I am bad at refusing anything.

NetSplit/b]

Got any work in progress page of what you had going? I'm always looking for new idea to make the site the best it can be. No offense to you, but I'm only interested in having somebody on staff who really wants to be on staff and has a genuine interest in helping this site succeed. It seems like you don't have a genuine interest and that's ok. You don't have to be a staff member to contribute something to the site anytime you want. Anytime you want to throw out ideas or suggestion, the message board is always open and we're always listening.

Gavin/b]

If you finish activating your account on the Romhacking.net board, I will send you a private message and we can discuss some things further.

Hmm.. what an interesting acceptance or refusal. I'm not sure which it really was! hehe I know more than most how it can be when you take on a new project and others have to take a back seat. There's never enough time to do everything you want. I like to cycle through hobbies and projects and change that up with the occasional work a few minutes on several different projects. It sounds like you have too much on your plate already and aren't truely interested. As I told NetSplit, that's fine and you can always contribute whenever you want by dropping by the message board.
