OOC: Hiryuu, I'm ready when you are.

Grey: "All right, you lot... I've kicked your asses up and down the street, and I won't hesitate for a second to do it again, twice as hard and with twice as much conviction. You gonna give me what I want now?"

The unblasted remnants of the Dark Assembly lay in a pile of dazed corpses at Grey's feet, who stood defiant of their latest (and now excessively regretful) decision. His bat was gripped in his hand tightly, and he himself had donned a disapproving scowl. Why did it always have to turn out like this?

Congressman: "Yes, please, anything, just don't hurt us anymore!"

The tree-like monster grasped at the air in front of him, trying desperately to pull himself out from underneath the bodies. His bulky mass, several times larger than Grey was, had prevented him from doing so. These guys, thought Grey, were really surprisingly weak once you figured out that you had weapons and they didn't. Grey nonchalantly swung his bat at an Orc who had tried to make a sneak attack, and it flew through several podiums before coming to a rest at the wall of the Assembly.

Grey: "Fine. I want to have an exhibition match for the neo-age Simbattlers, one with an old relic of the past. I don't care what you have to do to get him, I don't care who you have to bribe or kill or blackmail, but I want him and I want him here, in this dimension. I'll even be courteous enough to provide you with a time and place."

He grasped the massive forehead of the creature, and brought his face close.

"Tomorrow, noon, Sim Battle Arena A. You know where it is."

And with that, he slammed the monster's face into the floor tiles one last time, made a home run out of another pouncing Orc, and snapped his fingers, disappearing into a puff of smoke.

He was gone, but the devastation had remained.

›› Oh man you did not just call me out...

He read it several times through. He was sure that the writing was as clear as day.

He still couldn't believe it though...obviously, this was some kind of mistake.

Taking a look at the insignia on the piece of paper, that looked like it went through Hell getting here, he could only think of one thing to do with it.

???: "Heh..."

Crumple it up and chuck it at the wall.

It bumped into a foot.

Grey: "It'll be any time now..."

He kicked some dust around the aisle flooring as he sat in the bleachers of the enormous, open-roofed Arena. The sun shined through the fluffy cumulus like a ray of hope: Grey'd finally be able to show these kids a thing or two. No crazed plots, no fierce sidestories, no off-kilter humor... It'd just be a straight fight. No lazy repostes, or subplots, or even the occasional soliloquy. With any luck, there'd finally be some professionality around here. He lounged.

Grey took a deep breath and smelled the air in the arena. In spite of the ventilation, the area still felt musty, like it hadn't been seriously used in a long time. Once Grey really thought about it, he realized that the last time anyone had actually had a solid arena battle was during the last Great Tournament, and those were completely open stadium. Shadow's interference in the construction of the old arenas was genius, allowing for nearly any environment or terrain to be made with nothing more than a thought. Of course, post-reconstruction, all of the battlers had left, and Grey himself knew that he had taken a hiatus from the art of war.

Now, fights were conducted in the open, on wrecked city streets and destroyed forests and ruinous plains. How many of those could possibly exist? The world had become quite civilized over the years. Perhaps that man had been correct in his assertion. Perhaps it was time for an exodus.

Perhaps not. He certainly hoped not. There was another place, of course, one that lingered in Grey's mind for quite some time... Once this was over, he sought to attend to matters there.

Which was when said silence was interrupted by one thing and one thing only:

"Who the HELL messed up THIS time?"

The location of the voice, which was definitely...a pissed female one, came from the central area of the arena. It wasn't long before the ground around it started shaking. The large stone slab that was currently being used as the arena platform began to split and then cave as an impossibly bright light started shining forth. As more light gave way to a whirring, humming noise that sounded like high voltage, the marble floor continued to crack further away from the center. Small chunks of floor started to levitate as the ball of light grew in size and because, audibly, more fierce. The ball seemed to be generating a large amount of energy that threatened to burst at any given moment.

After another five seconds or so of this, a thunderous shockwave shook the entire arena and anything in remotely close location to it as the whole area went white for a few seconds.

Another few seconds passed by and the stellar light show called it a night. One person was left over after the opening act had passed. She seemed to be about average height for what appeared to be her age. She also seemed really well built, or maybe it was the rather casual black shirt and blue jeans, that now seemed slightly torn, that seemed to accentuate...naw, probably not.

???: "..."

Aside from what she looked like, she also seemed doubly pissed as well as she brushed off some black char that was on her face. This was a sign that she was obviously not on the up and up in terms of travel methods these days.

She tossed her shoulder-length red hair back and looked around. After a second of surveying she started coughing. A black cloud of smoke came up to say hello. She groaned.

???: "Man...you would THINK they would get better at this whole transportation stuff over the years but NOOOO still the same old..."

She trailed off as she met a person who seemed to be unfazed by anything that just got done happening. Stopping there, she narrowed her eyes to him.

???: "...You the kid I'm s'posed to haul ass on?"

Grey: "Good show, good show..."

(thinking) : 'Yes, very impressive... Lights and sound and all. But this is very odd, I don't remember the archives being so...'

He looked her up and down as he stepped down from the arena bleachers, clapping wanly as he did. His expression was cold and graceless, and he pushed a pair of spectacles up his nose as he struggled for a better look.

'...endowed? Unless he knows...'

Grey cast a quick glance at her build and twitched curiously. This wasn't unfamiliar, but it was certainly embarassing.

"Of course, we'll have to cut the formalities short, I am the boy you're supposed to be whupping the ass of, invitation of battle, insult of pride, snide remark about physicality, et cetera. Whatever floats your boat, I've had to break enough faces already to get this rolling."

Grey focused his mind. It'd take a quick meltjob, but he was fairly certain he could expose this girl's true identity soon enough. But for now, it was ladies first.

That got a raised eyebrow, look number one-twenty, from her. Then she stopped and looked away from him for a second, as if thinking, and shook her head.

???: "Ohhhh...I seeeee..."

She smirked and then looked at him once again walking towards him slowly and leisurely as she went.

???: "You know...I get these kind of calls all the time. People wanting to prove they're the best and whatever only to hear the awful truth."

Stopping in front of him, she made her point clear by enunciating the next sentence.

???: "RAIN. IS. RE-TI-URD."

Rain crossed her arms as she continued to look at him.

Rain: "I don't know who allowed you to even get contact of any of us, but they're not even supposed to know we EXIST anymore, much less call out anymore. So why doncha take your supposed fight talk and jam it up your---"

[THONK!!]

Rain: "---aahh!!"

Something had slammed into the back of Rain's head. Reeling wildly to see who would DARE accost a lady with her back turned, she saw the culprit. A rather large, stray rock was right next to her that she was SURE wasn't there before a moment before.

???: "Don't you know better than to read your own mail, Rain?"

Rain: "..."

Just then, another lightshow started. Only this time, a brilliant insignia flared on the ground that expanded from the center outwards, stopping at about ten foot around and rotated slowly as energy started to pour out from it and up from the ground. There were no shakes but there was a small hum of energy that came from the floor as a figure in the center started appearing. After a few seconds, the insignia faded and the lights took to the sidelines once more.

Rain: "...now why do you get the flashier entrance?"

Rain was turned to a man standing in the center of the ring. He was a bit taller than her and was definitely built for muscle where she was built for...well...

???: "Because I took the time to read through the new procedures about a month ago. You used a data transfer meth---"

Rain: "Oh shut up already..."

???: "Heh...not my fault you're a total---"

Rain: "I SAID SHUT UP!"

He took a stern look on his face and crossed his arms. She had already thrown her crossed arms out and had her fists balled at either side.

???: "I told you not to do this..."

Rain: "But...you..."

Rain sighed and looked at the ground for a second.

???: "I told you: this isn't for you to decide."

Rain: "But you're not even supposed to be doing this anymore!"

The man uncrossed his arms and started walking forward.

???: "Since when did you get the opinion that you could choose my battles for me?"

Rain: "I..."

That was all that Rain got to say before he put a hand on her mouth.

Rain: "Mmph!!"

???: "You'd do best to hang back on the sidelines. Now."

He seemed rather serious. Considering how precocious she sounded earlier, Rain visibly paled to this person's new tone of voice that he took.

Rain: "F...FINE! See what I care..."

She then took a few steps and the leapt a distance from center court to fourth row in the bleachers. Turning around she dropped on her behind and started sulking.

???: "Heh..."

He turned around and looked at Grey again. He closed his eyes for a moment and gave a quick and almost unnoticeable bow.

???: "You'll have to excuse her. She gets a little edgy sometimes."

Grey: "That's fine. Stereotypes happen."

He pushed past the new entrant and began accosting Rain, not being intimidated by her fire or flash. In the end, after all, they were all just people. He adopted a stern look of his own before crossing his arms and talking her through.

"Mind you, I'm not boasting about who's the best or who's the strongest, you know. You're being very rude, assuming the only reason I've called anyone here is for a generic "LAWL I AM STRAWNG" kind of fight. I am a professional. I do things professionally. I'm hoping he does, too. Unfortunately, there aren't many other people around here who regard their status with a degree of such."

He prodded her nose after squatting down and getting, as it were, "all up in her face." It was quite a rebellious move from such a nonthreatening fellow...

"I'd be a lot nicer about this, mind you, but I've got to pose as some kind of agitator, or else there wouldn't be any balls to this fight at all! So back off, or bring it on, or let him do the fighting and let you do the being way too attractive for your own good. I'm going back out there."

He stood, grimaced, and went to greet the new arrival.

Rain was stunned by two things:

The fact that he actually took the time to come all the way up to tell her that and the fact that he came within twenty feet of her nose, much less two inches, and smacked her...in the...

Rain: "WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!?!?!"

???: "Rain..."

Rain: "Oh just let me kill him for the love of..."

???: "You deserved it."

Rain: "Yes! I deserve to beat the ever-living crap out of this guy!"

He sighed, she was getting whiny again.

???: "Don't you ever stop whining?"

Rain: "...Hmph!!"

Rain sat back down and began wallowing in her own rage. They'd both pay. Soon enough.

Grey looked back and adjusted his glasses. He adopted a slight grimace, and looked remorsefully at Rain before turning back towards the new guy. He didn't like seeing people suffering, but what if she wasn't really suffering, more overreacting to him? Hm.

Grey: "Er, well... Mind introducing yourself now?"

He blinked.

???: "Eheh...You're kidding me, right?"

He took out a piece of paper. It looked like it had seen better days from the crumple and the wear and tear that it had recieved on its trip over.

???: "According to this piece of scrap, I'm to meet some 'egotistical thrillseeking madman' for a fight."

He looked at Grey. He looked at the paper. Then, he shook his head, crumpled the paper and disposed of it.

???: "Then again, if it was sent by the Dark Congress..."

He trailed off, looked at Grey and chuckled.

???: "Ohhhh just wonderful..."

He took the time to explain the conversation to himself.

???: "Well you must not be half bad if you won a chance to go against me by summon."

He turned and shouted:

???: "Oy...This was worse than I thought, Rain."

Rain: "Eh?"

???: "Apparently, it's one of those alternate netherworld cases of summoning someone in place of themselves sucking. Apparently, the Congress couldn't take this guy out."

Rain: "You mean..."

???: "Yep. I really DID have zero choice in the matter this time anyways."

Rain: "Ah..."

She wasn't too thrilled about that, but then that did kick her opinion of this sleezeball back up a notch for the fact that he might stand half a chance.

He cracked his knuckles. What a way to start.

???: "Not something I like to hear but hey...it has been a while anyways. Can't be too rusty, I s'pose."

And finally, he decided to answer Grey's question.

Hiryuu: "Name's Hiryuu. You might know of me. If you don't, well...I'll make SURE that you do after this."

Grey: "The old archives were useful. I used to know your every trick and move, but that's probably long since changed, especially since you're apparently of the 'retired' status. Inactive, you see? Still enlisted, but inaccessible."

He took a step to the side and drew from nowhere a baseball bat that looked like it had seen better days. Shouldering it, he cast a glance at Rain before turning his attention back to Hiryuu. It was tough not staring at someone who looked so completely out-of-place...

"Now, bear in mind that I am egotistical, I am thrillseeking, and I am a madman, but I am also polite. You still have a chance to back out. If not, I'll just let you make the first move. Don't worry, I'm ready for you."

He reached into the pocket of his vest casually, as to suggest that he was not at all worried about what was about to ensue. In fact, his hands closed around a small toy...

›› And we got Winamp on...

Hiryuu could only raise an eyebrow. For two reasons, really.

Hiryuu: "So, I'm to assume that you're actually giving me a choice on something I don't have a choice about? That's funny."

He walked over and took a look at the bat in question that he was now hoisting.

Hiryuu: "And what's with that get-up? You trying to be some sort of Lil' Slugger from that one show or whatever?"

Rain: "Probably doesn't have much in terms of weapons, bro...

Hiryuu nodded his head in assent. She continued to herself.

Rain: "...or originality for that matter...>"

Rain muffled a chuckle after that one. Hiryuu cleared his throat.

Hiryuu: "Welp, you asked for what you wanted so..."

He kept a close watch on his fist as it started to charge energy in a manner that made it glow brighter as the seconds progressed. There would be no backing down from him. Ever.

Hiryuu: "Might as well---OBLIGE!"

Taking the initiative, Hiryuu took to the air and came back down aiming a fist directly at Grey's head, intent on one-hit-KOing.

Grey was hit square on the head by the punch and was slammed directly into the ground, his head crushed into a bloody pulp. Pieces of grey matter and bone meshed with the cracked floor tiles from the impact of his head as the baseball bat went flying, and the yoyo in his pocket flew towards the sideboards of the arena and smashed to pieces.

Needless to say, the body didn't get up. A voice rang out inside of Hiryuu's head...

Grey: "< Not bad, it only took you one hit to kill the double. That's a lot better than everyone else around here. >"

The body on the floor faded into nothingness, and the crack in the floor tiles disappeared as though nothing at all had hit it in the first place. An illusion... Somewhat fitting, for a psychic.

"< Normally, this would be the part where I'd spam you with fake clones of myself and challenge you to find the real one. Naturally, it wouldn't be anywhere near here, because I play it safer than that. Then I'd probably try to get inside your head, trap you in a world of your own nightmares, beat you psychologically... >"

The bat continued flying, and was caught by an outstretched hand that lay in the shadow of the arena bleachers... A figure began to circle around, silently.

"< ...But honestly, I think I like this approach a bit better. >"

The same figure dashed out from beneath the bleachers behind Hiryuu, his movement augmented by telekinetic force. With the light revealing him as the recently-annihilated Grey, the man swung hard at Hiryuu, the bat exploding in a shower of splinters to reveal its true nature-- a long, hard metal rod with a clearly broken end. A basket hilt emerged above Grey's wrist and extended to the bottom of the rod's handle, and it was clear that some kind of magical radiation was coming from it. Of what nature, even Grey wasn't quite sure... What he did know was that it hurt the bad guys, and that was all that mattered.

Hiryuu: "Behind the back..."

Hiryuu took just enough time to talk and look at the angle that the rod was coming at. Judging from it's movement, it's path meant that his head was an obstacle.

Catching the rod proved to be as simple as addition after getting that deduced. It had enough forced behind it, though to knock him back from his position. The hand that he had hit the now dead clone was still aglow holding back Grey's advance.

Hiryuu: "...how utterly unoriginal."

In a fluid motion, Hiryuu deflected the rod up and then made a spinning crescent kick towards Grey's midsection with a dull thud for an answer.

The dull thud, well... Rang? I guess... True, and Grey flew sideways spinning, but not before a pair of marbles spilled out of the pouch on his belt. He skidded along the smoothly waxed tile, bruised but not beaten. He grinned...

Grey: "You're right, I'm sorry."

He got to his feet and snapped his fingers, rubbing his side with the hilt of his bat.

"You've got three seconds."

Hiryuu: "Enh?"

At this point, all Hiryuu could think about was that if he was going against a main character out of an RPG or something that their standards were getting lower and lower.

And they were getting more and more annoying to take out; that kick should've had him on his knees coughing...not having him lose his marbles, literally.

He wasn't really thinking about that more than the last thing that he heard.

Hiryuu: "I don't really like those surprise-type deals. Can I place another order instead?"

Grey: "Nope. Time's up."

The marbles rolled to Hiryuu's feet with a wave of Grey's hand, and exploded like two sticks of dynamite. Dirt and tile scattered everywhere as the explosion occured, kicking up way more smoke than was necessary. Regardless of the actual damage, Grey took the cover for his own advantage, running away and pulling from his vest a small, black rectangular device that he flipped open and poised his finger on the side of. He twisted his back to try to crack it back in place after that kick, and felt something else, felt something much more fragile in his side crack. Badly.

He cried out in pain, realizing that he'd have to reset that rib or else he'd probably start bleeding internally. Not that it mattered in the long run, of course, but it was still an epic amount of pain.

Rain: "Huh..."

Rain looked on at the new, though small, mushroom cloud that occupied the center of the ring. She looked on, nonplussed, and sipped her soda that she had acquired from who knows where.

Rain: "I could've take him out by now."

She waited for a predictable few seconds before she felt a rumble from the center of the stadium. She rolled her eyes. The dust and debris cloud that was still in the air started to swirl around the point of explosion until it bulged as a piercing white light started to shine through it. It then exploded into an energy of white as a very enraged person sound rang out from it. The energy blast subsided afterwards both arms were extended away from him and his head was down. He heaved once and shook his head. He'd be fine for the moment.

Hiryuu: "Haaa..."

...Or maybe after a few moments. There was only so much of a rockpile he really wanted to dig himself out of in one fell swoop of getting nuked. Any other person would've been a toastycake by now. He kicked the rest of the rubble idly to the side and walked away from the now smoking spot where he once stood. He coughed a black cloud. He hadn't raised his head up once since he emerged from the cloud.

Hiryuu: "That..."

He said this while raising his head to meet Grey, not having a nice expression to meet him with.

Hiryuu: "...was not nice."

Grey: "Neither is this."

He had neared Hiryuu at this point, and took the small rectangular device in his hand up to meet Hiryuu's angry stare. Jet-black save for a small gray protrusion on its bottom, the device had two screens and a heck of a lot of excess hardware, clearly pimped out from its original state.

Lighter, and most definitely brighter, Grey turned on the Nintendo DS Lite and shone the full power of the backlight that he had personally modified for just such an occasion in Hiryuu's face. There was a bright flash, followed by the swing of a thick metal rod directly afterwards.

Hiryuu: "What are you---"

That's when a gigantic flash came from the device. For a little thing, it did its job fairly well. At least Rain was complaining about it silently after shielding her eyes as the whole stadium lit up.

After the lights decided to stop irritating Rain's line of sight, she got a decent glimpse of how things turned out afterwards. She sighed and shook her head.

Hiryuu had his head down, he had a metal rod clenched in his hand, shaking a bit from the pressure that was being exerted toward him.

Hiryuu: "Ow..."

He tried blinking. It wasn't giving him much except a tremendous amount of pain in return. So much for vision for a bit.

Hiryuu: "Damn...you..."

Which is when he started glowing yellow momentarily afterwards. Well, at least he looked intimidating enough.
