Considering how most ports are, I picked this up with an expectation much lower than what the game actually is. As should be from FF5, it's quite an excellent story and game; the GBA remake is really breathtaking, as odd as that might sound. The improved graphics and remixed music are bonuses to this game. I haven't played any of the other Final Fantasy Advance games, but maybe I should, this is easily the best GBA port I've ever seen.

Anyone else got the chance to play this yet? It's absolutely wonderful, true to the original Super Famicom feel, with some changes that don't ruin the game. Definately a must to any Final Fantasy and/or RPG fan, especially ones that have a GBA/NDS and want to play it wherever they go.

Well, this game is hard to bias against myself.

It's the first game I ever played of the FF series, first game I ever emulated...and really I can't think of any other game in the FF series that would be better to go into. FF7 can shove it for that.

Still doesn't mean it's the best but...whatever...

...so yea, you better believe I've been playing this in the smallish time I have between jobs and other games/RPGs.

FFV is my favorite Final Fantasy series.

I'm still undecided about the remake, though. A lot of it has to do with the portraits that show up in each dialogue box and look nothing like the characters they're supposed to be.
I mean, the idea of having the portraits is good, but.. Galuf was never that damn skinny, and his hair isn't even remotely gray.
And Faris looks more like Kefka >.<

Well, its like that in just about every Final Fantasy. And really how can you truly compare a sprite to a portrait? Kind of weird if you ask me.

I picked this up about a week ago along with FFIII DS. For some reason I was more excited about this than FFIII, and I still haven't played FFIII. I've already put in a handful of hours for V, and I'm really liking the upgrade. The cleaner graphics are a little nicer, but I think they really improved the sound and music. I went through FFV on Anthology but I hardly remembered any of the themes, but now with the remake the music is blowing me away.

I need to do some leveling to beat up Shiva.

Yeah, but isn't that a minor point Kailieann? :\

The gameplay is VERY solid, don't worry about it. FF4A was criticized as being buggy but there's no bugs to be found here. If you enjoyed FF5, you'll enjoy FF5A. Great translation job too.

And apparently FF6A has been given a February 5 release date. According to Wikipedia...

Spoiler:
There's at least three new Espers (Cactuar, Leviathan and Gilgamesh) and a new dungeon that has to be explored with three parties like the final dungeon.

Beat her at 14. What's wrong with you?

Stolen Mythril Sword + 2-Hands from Knight + Mystic Knight Fire2 Sword = pwn.

That's what I did... hell, I'm still using that basic setup, except I'm at Moore now. I might've been a higher level, though, I forgot to kill her until after I got to Karnak, so I walked all the way back to the meteorite and to Walse. On the plus side, at least I got a good bit of money from the trip.

My party (all L27):

Bartz
Samurai w/ !Blue
Osafune/Diamond Shield/Diamond Helmet/Diamond Armor/Elven Mantle

Lemma
White Mage w/ !Time (needs to level that up one more for Hastega)
Healing Staff/Hypno Crown/Luminous Robe/Elven Mantle

Galuf
Mystic Knight w/ Two-Handed
Sleep Blade/Golden Helm (working on it...)/Diamond Armor/Gauntlets

Faris
Thief w/ !Summon (what? it works.)
Air Knife/Twist Headband/Diamond Plate/Thief's Gloves

5 minutes in?!?

How the hell did you manage that? The game doesn't have a harsh learning curve early on...

I played the original with K and we beat everything in that game in 24 hours. We took Chicken Knife route.

Beat everything under level 40. Even Shinryuu didn't have a prayer.

EDIT: As for my stats, I'm going for the Earth crystal now. I haven't really had a chance to play all that much but...well...see the shot.

You can speed the game up with emulation too.

It seems that the only good games that come out for the GBA these days are RPG's/strategy games. Yay.

You couldn't possibly be a tad more specific?

Because there's only one boss you can get to that early in the game (namely the first boss, who is not even remotely difficult), so I'm thinking..

If it wasn't the first boss, then somehow your game glitched and gave you a stronger monster than any you should be going up against, in which case you should re-download the ROM and try again
Or if it was the first boss, and you got pwned by it, then.. wow. You need more practice.
