Has anyone here ever seen 8 Bit Theater? If you haven't you better go do so now. At www.nuklearpower.com because it is hilarious. When you have tell me who your favorite character is. We shall debate who is the greatest. I am an advocate for BM.

Dude, calm down! No need to make so many threads!!! You should have combined the Ninja Vs. Pirate thread, and this could have gone somewhere else...

You need more thought to your posts, or else you will be banned! Now I'm sure you don't want that...

I've finally read up to the 700s in 8 Bit however I've got a ways to go and my internet at home bites so I'm crawling along as quickly as I can. Using other people's computers when I can. So anyway, 8 Bit theatre. For those of you who do care. Tell me who is your favorite character and why. I like Black Mage because of all his morbid comedy, violent activities and the attempts to woo White Mage.

Eight bit theatre has always had a place in my heart: Like JACK, Dominic Deegan, and even Bob and George (for a short period of time, at least), it's one of those comics I can read, go away from for a few months, come back, and have another good read to catch up on what I've missed in the ensuing time.

I'm a big fan of Red Mage and Thief; Red mage because he represents more or less everything I love to hate, and Thief because he's just so goddamn good at what he does. He's like the entire movie Snatch in one character.

King Steve is another favorite of mine. I love it when I stumble across a King Steve comic here and there. In my opinion he is one of the few welcome diversions from the plot. Warroween was a pretty good one. I can't remember the name of the one I read recently and sadly I remember little from it.
If you have ever played a Final Fantasy 1 or any other game like it. That alone makes it so much more an enjoyable read.

This is one of those things I know I should do but never get around to. I'd have considered going through it today but I spent the day reading Kid Radd instead.

Well, that's it then. You've experienced the best comic the internet has to offer...

Kid Radd was genius. It knew exactly where to start, to rise, to fall, and to end, and it knew exactly how to end in a way that pulled at our heartstrings and elevated our hopes with the sinewy lift of the arms of the just and the right. Also, it was one of the few sprite comics out there with a frames per second count. Considering its subject matter, I applaud Kid Radd for being highly original and never actually using any sprites from any real games out there for anything more than a cameo. It added to the appeal!

I'll have to admit. 8 Bit isn't completely original nor are the images. Then again you have to consider the fact that B Bit is pretty much a parody of FF 1. Therefore, there is a limitation the originality. The only originality possible is the characterization and the dialogue.

See, the benefit to having the characterization/dialog being the primary source of originality is that neither were particularly existent in the actual game. Just look at the nameless heroes, who aside from being completely interchangeable, have no distinctive traits other than in battle.

EDIT: Heh, forgot the useful part of my post. I used to read it all the time, but then I just kinda stopped, no particular reason. At this point, it'd take me ages to catch back up.

Not to mention the obvious game parodies later on (Mofo, Final Legend, etc) and some other silly bits, as well as the fact it managed to make fun of itself often enough too..

8-Bit Theater is an interesting comic, but it progresses way, way too slowly. I read throug the entire archives one night and just kind of sat there wondering, "is that really as far as we've gotten?" It felt like a waste.

Similarly, Bob & George has also fallen down that slippery slope of "we're just doing this to keep the comic going, really" continuity. A lot of the funnier old things (like the game parodies) are gone now, mostly replaced by intricrate story lines that are pretty damn boring.

So yeah, Kid Radd forever. Or, at least, Feb2002-Sep2004. I can at least have the proud quality of having been able to read the last few comics day-by-day, and the suspense and everything worked out perfectly... though you kind of lose it when you can just read through everything at your leisure.

I will admit 8 Bit does move really slow. It is somewhere around 777 comics, and they haven't finished the first FF. And moved on to another game and or finish it. Also they could've moved those guest comics to another place because they only delay the already slow moving plot.
