Hey guys. I'm making a hack of Super Mario World using Lunar Magic. For the most part I've been able to figure it out by myself, by exploring, testing, and using its help section. But sometimes I get a little stuck, I've only been at this for a week.

So here I'll post any problems I currently have (and can't figure out after lots of searching and trying). Hopefully some of you who are more experienced than me will be able to help. I'd really appreciate it.

Okay, so here they go.

1. The opening movie: How do I modify it?
2. The subsequent opening screen: I can change the text, but not the image. Help?
3. Switch Palaces, Castles, etc...: I can make them get beaten and disable reentry, but I can't seem to get them to flatten right.

That's all for now. Thanks for any help.

And of course, I'll let anyone who wants to test my game. Just give me your email address so I can send it to you.

I'm not as experienced as some of the people here but I can answer these questions for you.

1. First, the opening movie uses level C7. So, you must make it so at some point you can get to that level so you can record. The opening movie can be modified by opening your game in ZSNES and doing a complicated series of playing level C7 and using savestates, then loading the savestate back into Lunar Magic. I personally haven't done this yet so I'd get confirmation of this from the LM help file or someone else.

2. The opening screen uses level C5. Just edit it like you would a normal level but don't get rid of the "display message #1" sprite near the top because that tells the game when to end the level and go to the overworld. You can move it around but don't delete it.

3. In the overworld editor, go to Layer 1 editing and then for castles, click the top of the tower so it's highlighted and then click the destroyed castle button at the top of the editor. Use that dialog to set the castle destruction. Do the same thing for the switch palaces except just highlight the whole tile.

Also, you can just attach the game file (NOT the .smc file, only a .ips/.zip/.rar file) to the post that you are making instead of sending it by e-mail. Just a hint.

Hope I helped.

Yeah, I know that. (or at least the .zip solution) It's just so early in production that I'd rather not release it to the public just yet.

Anyway, thanks a ton.

Also, there's a help file included with Lunar Magic.
It should cover up a lot of questions.

I know. I've used it a lot. But it doesn't cover everything... and sometimes it's hard to find what I'm looking for.

Also, remember this: When you're editing the opening "movie", or as it's really called, Demo (seeing as it's supposed to show a demo of the level Groovy in the original SMW), you can make the level as long as you want. Just remember that you can also change Mario's moves. Here's how:

In the Overworld Editor, go into the File Menu. Click on Title Screen, then that playback recording thing. It only works with ZSNES, but after clicking it, it messes up the game in a way that after you make a Save State, it records EVERYTHING that Mario did. Be sure to first make the VERY FIRST LEVEL the level you wish to Record (Not C7, as you can't reach that level from the overworld. Instead, use the one you enter from the overworld, like say, Level 1) the same one you put in C7! Now, in ZSNES, go into that Level, move Mario however you want, then after you're done, make a Save State. Just be sure not to let Mario die, enter an exit-enable object (Door, Pipe, Custom Block that uses the screen's exit data), or touch the goal tape during the opening demo, as they will cause you to play through Level C7 all over again! And you can't leave without losing ALL your lives! O_o Okay, after making the Save State, upload it in the Title Screen menu. Turn offc the ability to save Mario's movements to a Save State, delete that Save State you used to make the Title Demo Movements, and test it. Be careful, as most of the enemies seen in level C7 may not be there while playing through making the movements, so sometimes, you'll cause Mario to DIE. O_o Just a note.

If you want to change the Music for the title screen, go in OW editor in Lunar Magic, click the Music Box. When you find the music you want, remember the value thats next to it. (e.g. 09 Special World)

Then open up Translhextion, and the File>Open partially

Then choose your rom. Next, after the x0, type in 18C7.

Then for the size of the file, type 1.

It should say 01, which is the title screen current music. Change it to the value you got earlier, such as 09 for Special World.

Save it, then there you go. Remember, you can only use OW music for the title screen.

Okay, I've fixed problems #2 and #3. Thanks for the help. Only problem is with #1... I've been able to edit its level, but not the movie.

Overworld Editor's "File" tab only has "Reload & Discard..." and "Save". I can't find "Title Screen" or anything like it on any of the overhead tabs. Where should I look?

Also, when I edit the background palette of the level, it flashes the new colors for a second in the opening movie, but then reverts back to the old palette. Why? Can I fix it?

(I'm using v1.01 of the overworld editor and v1.62 of Lunar Magic. That's not problematic, right?)

Download Lunar Magic 1.63 for the Title Screen thingie.

With the background... do you use the animated palette of palette 6? You can't change that one...

0.01 version off from what I need? Evil. I guess that's what I get for downloading it off a third party.

Anyway, I use the outside Ghost Ship background, except changing the black to light blue. It works fine everywhere except for the movie itself. Even when the character dies and I get trapped in the level it's light blue, but the movie switches back to black in the first second, completely ruining the atmosphere.

Is there any way to mix and match sprite and background palettes? Like, put the "Water" sprite pallette against a "Cloud" background without the sprites going all awry? That'd solve my problems there.

And I hate having to ask so many questions, but... where do the state save files go/how do I get them on my computer? Because after installing, saving and reloading... it doesn't seem to do anything special to save stats or the world map. And nothing appears when I save state.

------------------------------------

Edit: Nevermind guys, I managed to figure it out myself. Redownloading ZSNES seemed to fix the problem. I'd still like to know if (and if so, how) you can mix and match background and sprite palettes, so if you know about that, please tell.

Alright guys, another question.

I'm using whirlpools as pipes, so is there any way for me to modify the Layer 1 pipe so that it's water-based (as in Mario swims instead of stands)? If not, that's okay, I'll live with it, but if there's any modification program out there...
