Maybe you can change it "1990 Nintendo" using a Hex Editor with TBL.

This is the second rom of this game I have got. I deleted the first one when it wasn't working and then I decided to try again but this time ask for advice. I downloaded the rom from the same site both times because when I tried the startropics roms from other sites it concidered the invalid.

I'd imagine it has to be either the read-only file attribute or a locked file. A locked file would mean that you need to close your emulator before opening the file in YY-whatsit or TLP. At the very least, close the file in the emulator. Also, just double check that the read-only bit isn't set.

There's no way that it could possibly be a problem with the rom itself. It is definitely either a problem with the file attributes or the file being locked, so downloading a new rom and deleting the old one probably won't work.

I just download this and edit the GFX. They changed for me (erased the 1996 nin- thing). I hate to go as far as saying something wrong with your CPU but....

It could be the fact that you're running Windows. No, I kid. I'm still thinking the file is locked by some other program that has it open, though. I've said it before, but it doesn't hurt to bring it up again because I've had such a problem in the past.

Find the file in Windows. Right click it. Select properties. Make sure that "read only" near the bottom is unchecked. Hit "okay". Try editing it again.

If it still doesn't work, restart your computer. Don't open any programs other than TLP. Try editing it, saving, quitting TLP, and reloading it in TLP.

This is one of the strangest problems i ever heard of on the CPU. I think you should just move on to something else. Maybe you just weren't ment to edit that game........

Forgive my ignorance, but which "the CPU"? 6502 or x86?

Would your emulator happen to support auto-IPS-patching?

Another stupid random idea: Try to do it from a different folder. It could be the folder where your ROM is located at the moment that has specific restrictions. (I would guess it should be the file itself though, but you said it's not...)
