| Hello, this is JJames. I'm not a huge ROM hacker, but I've dealt in it many times. From SMW, to Advance Wars, to Tetris, to Pokemon, to various other games, even obscure ones. (Ever try hacking Super Uno?) It's apparent that I've been through my fair share of level editors, hex editors, and just about every game specific editor on the planet. However, despite such, I'm still confused by it, thanks to my inability to comprehend ASM, Assembly code. I was on my way to designing a little Advance Wars CO hacker until I found out that knowing what hex values are which just isn't enough.
So now I'm looking at the GBA. From what I heard, it's games are the easiest to expand. Which is a good thing, because for what I want to try, I'm gonna need it. First off, why I joined this board; it's famous of it's ROM hacking. You cannot deny that. Two major parts of it were dedicated to two games; Super Mario World and Pokemon. These two games are among the most hacked, SMW having a category all on it's own, mostly thanks to Lunar Magic. I also heard that the Pokemon boards were always subject to lots of...stupidity. I don't blame the staff here for trying to take action; much of the Pokemon community is very unexperienced. The fan games community is direly lacking, badly. Coming here now, I see it's gone...which sort of discouraged me as the biggest reason I came here was so I could post something in that board. What is it? Just a simple question....or ten. That's why I doubt I could be approved. I know for approval, I would have to have the potential of really contributing to the hacking community...I'm contributing nothing if all I'm doing is asking a question. Still, here I am asking for it. Why am I here even when I terribly doubt I'll really do anything? Because I still might. If I do get these questions answered and have a bit of support behind it, there's a little project I'd like to try. It's Pokemon related if you couldn't guess. So, what do you say? Do I have permission to ask this question(s) on the board? Or would I have to take this elsewhere? (By the way, this custom forum system really pwns. =P) |

| Sadly once we kicked out the idiots, there was noone left posting in the Pokemon Hacking forum, so Pokemon Hacking got merged with general ROM-Hacking.
And, asking questions -- so long as they aren't stupid questions that have been answered a million times already and could easily be answered by Google -- definately qualifies as a valid contribution, since (good) questions tend to lead to good discussions, and the open sharing of information that can be beneficial to the entire community. There isn't a vast amount of interest in Pokemon Hacking here at the moment, but there are still a few experienced people hanging around who are more than willing to share any knowledge or advice they have. I see no reason whatsoever as to why you should not be approved. (edited by Kailieann on 11-01-06 07:34 AM) |
