Got a prob.

I'm trying to add stairs to different rooms, but when I try to save it says:"not enough room for roomheader". Reading the guide, I learned you can only place a certain amount of stairs, and if you want to add, you have to remove others.

Problem is, when I try to remove others and try to save, it says "not enough room for roomheader" in the room I just deleted the stairs (staircase under "more" option). When I check "rom information" in the Edit-menu I think i see the problem.
Under "D.headers" the value is:"2183 used, -9 free.

I don't know how this came to happen, but since the free-amount is this high, and I can't delete more than 3 stairs from a dungeonroom, it makes me believe My rom is messed up, and I won't be able to remove or add any stairs in any other dungeon room...

Is there a way to get around this without ASM hacking? And if not, can anyone explain or link me to a guide that can give me the appropriate information on ASM-hacking. Because I don't want to be limited in using roomheaders as well as the amount of sprites I can use.

It'd help if we knew which game and editor you're talking about.

I am guessing hyrule magic?

If it is you could get ochiemario(sp )'s perfect guide to hyrule magic.
Let me find a link...

there we go.

Indeed it is about Zelda3 and with hyrule magic, sorry I forgot to mention it.

That guide is the guide I referred to earlier.
It tells me what to do and explains it, but the problem remains, since I can't seem to remove any other stairs from any other dungeon room. Probably because it has -9 free, and if I remove 4 sets of stairs from a dungeonroom (maximum I can do), it would become -5 free, which is the reason it won't save the roomheader, and thus, I won't be able to remove or add stairs...

well, i'm not sure if it works but try to discard the room header:

right mouseclick -> Discard room header
NOTE: you need the custom build hyrule magic for this feature

EDIT:
I looked somethin about that and i think i now how you did that:

Hole/Warp uses 6 D. Headers
Staircases use 2-3 D. Headers
Special Doors use 2 D. Headers

so just look for some room which uses at least one hole/warp and one staircase and remove it, so you get 0 free D. Headers

maybe this could work

nope, it removes the the roomheaders' properties but you can do those things manually, as I did before. For some reason, even if I find a room with the biggest roomheader possible and delete it, it still says "not enough room for room header". I think the only way I can get out of this "glitch", is by expanding the total amount of roomheaders possible. And if I'm not mistaken that requires ASM hacking.

On topic of the ASM hacking, in the main tree of Hyrule Magic, there's a section called "ASM hacks". What is this section used for? Can I use it to expand the roomheaders?

Edit*
I found a room with a hole, 2 staircases and door (fourth option), tried removing them, but no luck

The ASM hacks section allows HM to insert custom code written in fsnasm format, I wouldn't bother with it, you're better off relying on some other assembler/hex editor to do the trick since HM dumps the code anywhere in the rom

try removing room header the old way: use the OLD HM, go find those rooms, and press the up arrow.

well, that's what I've been trying to do all along , (view below)
That's just the problem:

to give you an example: I pick room 232. I choose to remove everything in the roomheader ( this room has the biggest roomheader possible if I'm not mistaken), I try to save and it still says "not enough room for room header"...

This is why an ASM hack is required, I believe

Te images seem to be in backwards order, so start with the right one instead of the left

Try removing multiple room headers at the same time from many rooms before saving the whole rom. Use the arrows to move to another room, it'll ask you theres no room header a few times but don't care about the warning. Clear a few rooms like this until you have plenty of free room header. Then save and try again.

I flipped through approximately a dozen rooms, ignoring the "no room" warning, but it keeps on saying it. When I use the arrow to switch rooms, click away the warning, and then go back using the arrows, all the doors and stairs are back like they were, without saving the entire rom.

I might have accidentally edited a dungeonroom with the custom version of HM (not sure if I did though). Perhaps this could have something to do with it?

I made some experiments and i think i know how you did that:

when you got this message you pressed "Yes" and this costs a whole new header so you got -9

you have to reverse this somehow maybe???

Indeed, I did that occasionally, but how else can I save the roomheader? I have to click yes if I'm not mistaken.

And how would I reverse the effects? Is that even possible?

This is an extremely annoying problem. I would suggest that you email me the ROM and let me fix it for you.

Omega45889@gmail.com

If your not comfortable with that, then Orochimaru is right, you need to remove all the doors and staircases under the "More" button in rooms your dont need, and save. Then try adding them to other rooms.

you have to relink the headers again, just how i said "Discard room header"

for example, pick room 14 and discard his room header, and use its room header from room 13, then it should work

Yes you have, but first you have to check if you have enough room header
