Right.

My dad has this IBM laptop. He usually dock it to his docking station, which has a DVI plug. Then one day, in all of a sudden, the DVI image turns up on the external monitor all covered in green and pink noise. We've tried using different cables, monitors and docking stations, which leads me to think that there's something wrong with the lappy. Any ideas?

Well, if you've swapped out everything BUT the laptop, then obviously the laptop is the problem (or more specifically, something in the laptop's video hardware).

There probably isnt anything you can do to fix it, unfortunately, aside from sending it back to IBM. Laptops tend to have very few user-serviceable parts inside.
