since the new mario kart came out every one has been talking about how good the wi-fi is. how does it work? i know that you need bt broadband and a special cable but why do you have to have broadband? what about people with dial-up?(i dont know why im complaining i've got broadband:LOL. look what i'm trying to say is that nintendo are going to lose a lot more customers if they only put games out with broadband. i suppose that considering there are supposed to be certain spots were yo can play with the wi-fi and it is free. ahhh well i'm still getting it

Wi-fi is wireless so it doesnīt work if you donīt have a wireless router.

If you donīt have a wireless router, you must buy an USB adapter instead. There you have it.

If you want to play without buying the adapter, you'll have to go to a McDonald's or Starbucks or anywhere else that has Wi-Fi adapters. Most of the time its free. And, of course, just start playing and people all over should be playing by the time you start.

I have the USB thingy and the CD, but it won't work because "I have a network open. Delete the network bridge."

Anyone else have this problem? Just to let you know, our computers (2) are not connected wirelessly.

I have a similar problem with bridging connections. I cannot bridge them whatsoever. Do you use linksys or something?

I don't really know. Some guy installed it for us. All I know is it uses some kind of networking program...

Edit: It says Realtek Ethernet, whatever that is...

I'm pretty sure the USB thing is free. Everything you need to know about the Nintendo USB adaptor is in the article that Ran-Chan linked to which is this one.

You have to buy it.

Then you play as long as you want, without additional fees from Nintendo (but your ISP might be a bitch. But I don't think it uses much bandwitdh anyway.)

Canīt wait until my brother makes the router not block the MAC address of the Nintendo DS.

We made it block everything else exept for me and my friends computer. For security.

Dial-up dosen't have that major lag really.

At least, it didn't for me in Sweden when I pinged stuff. Maybe Dial-up just sucks more over there. :/

Technically, you should be able to make it work with a dial-up connection, but it's more trouble than it's worth.

I got it! Sorry to bump this but I need help. No matter what I do, the test connection never works. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it at least three times, with and without Firewall and Norton. What should I do?

I just want to tell everyone right now how the Mario Kart DS Wi-Fi works.
1-You connect to a network.
2-You connect to Wi-Fi
3-You choose which type of connection you want(World=Slower,Regional=Faster)
4-Then JUST SIT THERE AND WAIT(WAIT,WAIT,WAIT!!!!) until the character selection screen comes up.
Most people think that it does not work just because they connected and the flashing dots( which mean you found a person) come and go constantly.NOT TRUE! Just connect, and WAIT.Even if it says"You may not be able to gather four people, JUST WAIT!!!

Now for Friend codes.
Maybe people on here could exchange their friend codes and we could all race each other by selecting friends for the connection instead of world or regional.
1-Turn DS on
2-Start the game
3-Tap WFC(Wi-FI-Connection)
4-Tap Friend code AFTER YOU HAVE CONNECTED TO A NETWORK!
5-Tap confirm friend code(this is your friend code)

To add a friend:
6-Repeat steps 1-4
7-Tap register friend code
8-Now put in the friend code of the person you want to add(tell each other your friend codes)
9-After that, type in their name...
10-...then go back to Nintendo WFC Match
11-tap yes
12-select friends and tap ok

There... I type really slow...It burns!

So now everyone knows how to race each other. Now all we have to do is make a time to get on-line, like everyone gets on at 9:00 or something. My friend code is:
004356
968637
My name is Philip H

I finally got to work. You'll never guess why it wasn't working before. It was too close to the adapter. Apparently, laying on the floor next to the adapter is too close.
