I knew they would eventually come forward. It's been such a long running war, and I think ALOT of good can come with this new development.

And yeah, I'm rubbing it in the bush administrations face

I think everyone's confusing "the insurgents" for "one leader of one Suinni group". Still, it'll be interesting to see what happens... remember though, negotiation is just talking, laying your objectives and goals on the table, it doesn't mean anything productive happens if demands from the two sides are irreconcilable.

how is this an I told you so thread?

and how is this somehow not what the Bush administration wants?

this means the could end sooner. I highly doubt Bush wanted the war to last this long. All that this means was that the war worked, the continued efforts of soldiers eventually outlasted that of the insurgents.

Peace only works when both sides want it to. We could have offered peace at any time and they might have taken it temporarily. However now that they are asking for it, it may turn in to a lasting peace as opposed to a more temporary one.

And no, I didn't take the time to read that entire cnn transcript or the other thread .

Because I pointed out in the linked post that these insurgents attacking the coalition forces wanted peace all along, not war.

From the fact that the United States does not negotiate with terrorists in the first place, making the war even longer than it should have been.

It's about time it did, no argument there.

Peace was out of the question the moment George Bush said we do not negotiate with terrorists. It's what he should have done in the first place.

I said it in some post in this forum way back when, and I'll say it again: It's a Texan mindset. Righteous justice and whatnot, with the enemy losing completely and the good guy winning everything. I personally blame Clint Eastwood.

It should either be (Or "The I told you so thread") or (Or the "I told you so" thread) or maybe even (Or the I told you so thread), the way it is now it just looks plain weird...

Aside from that, I haven't really heard much else about the peace talks in Iraq, has anyone else? No doubt the outcome will be on CNN, but something tells me they are just buying time to rergroup.
