I remember this question being asked a few years back, with answers spreading out about 50-50, so I figured I'd ask again to see what people say now.

After you die, if these are your two options, would you prefer to simple cease to be, cut into the nothingness, or would you prefer to keep existing, exist, know you exist, have a working brain, etc, etc, but spend your days being tormented and brought to loads and loads of pain?

Last time, I went with the Hell option... Nowadays, I'm not so sure no more. Non-existance seems scary to me, I would like to keep thinking, knowing, feeling, but is the eternal pain worth it?

I would go with non-existance. Even the Bible says that Judas (I think it was Judas) would have been better off if he was never born.

Non-existance FTW. Who the hell wants to go to hell, anyway?

When burning for eternity, who is going to say "oh, man, I'm so totally glad I was born so I had the chance to go to hell"? On the other hand, though, without existing you wouldn't even know you didn't exist. Fuck yeah, sign me up for that right now.

The cessation of existence isn't scary at all; it is just the void and nothingness. I'd prefer that to displeasure anytime. Plus, maybe if we cease to exist we actually become one with the universe or something.

My worst fear is losing myself not pain. I chose everlasting damnation.

I don't see how one can argue for eternal suffering over absolute loss of self. I mean, over this summer I was in absolutely excrutiating pain from a sunburn I had and, let me tell you, I was in such a state of mind that I would have willingly sacrificed my eternal consciousness just because it would have been some sort of relief. And I'm sure there is far worse pain out there than what I experienced.

Eternal pain versus... nothing.

I choose nothing. Glyph Phoenix summed up my reasoning perfectly.
