I tried making a SM hack but gave up due to too many problems. (i.e. rooms not loading, random glitching, overall difficulty) The Help file is no use either. Is there an actual guide to using it? The only other idea I would have would be asking Drewseph or Kejardon question but wouldn't want to bother them.

Start with an easier game to hack?

No, there is not currently an extensive SMILE guide. Not to my knowledge.

Right now, the best, most up-to-date guide for using SMILE is online and available... in Japanese.
http://sukamax.hp.infoseek.co.jp/SMILE.html
You can always try going to Jathys' channel and asking questions there, though. Or if you're comfortable working with hex and maybe some assembly, try to read the documents I have up at http://drewseph.zophar.net/Kejardon/ and infer what SMILE does based on that... most of the information relevant for SMILE is in sm_misc.txt. I have no idea how understandable anything there is to anyone else, though.

I've been to your section there and can't understand a thing about what you've written. Though I have to say that your Super Metroid Insanity pictures and Title.IPS patch have me intrigued.

Sorry this reply is so long in coming, but I've been non-existant for a while.

Anyway, the vomit page helps with some of the glitches.

This page is a very incomplete help file that I made way back when . . . Though almost useless, it is one resource that most people don't know about (I would still say that your best bet is the japanese site though).

I have no ambition to make a good help file, but I think I know some people who might want to. There's a chance then.

I could probably research on objects and make a help file, even if it ends up as a html or text bundle.

I'm also noting down things I find out.
I'm wondering where SMILE gets the Samus-Aran from when changing Palettes.. It's not the ROM, at least.

The Samus in SMILE is just a screenshot that I change the colors of.

As for the "text bundle" idea, that doesn't work. People don't want to read anything without pictures. For example, I received an e-mail yesterday from someone wondering how to make enemies respawn after killing them . . . I referred them to "enemy_quirks.txt" in SMILE's files folder (which has the answer in plain sight).
