I know someone is gonna refer me to Kefka's thread or some such, but the problem is that after perusing that thread, I didn't find my question/answer.

My brother requested that I make a hack of FF1 since I am currently in the workings of one. But that is not the one I am refering to. No. He requested that I make a hack based off of (Oh god, here it comes) "The Adventures of Jay and Silent Bob."

For a moment, I was skeptical. After all, it would be impossible, because Silent Bob either ran alone or with people that don't really make a lot of sense to be in a party, and they join one at a time, meaning FF1 could not be used for that purpose anyways.

And then I remembered something. The Dragoon X Omega II turned a party of four into one person! So then maybe it's not impossible to make it so that there are only two people available.

Does anyone have the data/knowhow to make it so that there are only two classes available? I would prefer Black Mage and Fighter. Simply because it's just the easiest two?

I've never taken a look at FF1, but restricting choosable classes should be simple enough....

FInd the location in the ROM that gives you the standard switching order of fighter, thief, BB, RM, WM, BM, and replace the pointer from "fighter --> thief" to "fighter --> black mage." BM already points back to Fighter, so you're done.

Should only take a one or two byte edit, and instantly remove 4 classes. There might be a cleaner, better solution, but that's the easiest to understand.

Note: if the code uses some sort of cycling counter instead (again, I haven't looked at all), just shorten the cycle to only include FI and BM.

Gavin's notes may be of help to you, although...I read over the larger documents for a few minutes, and couldn't understand much. Good luck with your hack!

...I don't know what I did, but I just turned a copy of Final Fantasy into a pile of bit'd go. And it made me cry. Cause I went to where I THOUGHT it was at, and I turned Fighter into a blotch of graphics. Likewise with Thief. And Blackbelt. And the mages.

...And then it locked up.

And died.

SO!

I think I'm gonna go ahead and burry this little idea until I'm minorly credible.
