This may actually be useful for some of you, but Google has released a Code Search.

It's useful for me too, but because of search results like this

what kind of drugs... warn "Server is on drugs: message number for message number $n is $num?"

What can you find?

EDIT: PHP has the most occurrences of "fuck". But if you code PHP you probably already knew that

The greatest thing I've noted about this so far is that this thing supports searching with regular expressions. in other words... :O

Shouldn't this be in the programming forum though?

I thought about posting this in Programming -- and initially did, but I think it may possibly be a touch "silly" to go in there.

Now, did anyone find anything else funny in any code??

hmm, this tool might be useful, but I don't entirely get how useful it could be; besides finding swear words.

Well, considering that Google's mission statement says that they are organising the world's information, I guess we can expect more searches and data organisational tools and such.

Probably something like "Google Person Search." Enter information such as age, hair color, height, weight, shoe size, and anything else you can think of and you'll get a list of everyone in the world with those characteristics.

Scary, huh?

BooUrns, if I were to trust anyone online with my personal information, it'd be Google. If they take over the world someday - so be it, I wouldn't be surprised. I would willingly bow to my new overlords as well. But in seriousness, I expect Google to come out with an operating system one of these days. One of their problems is that they focus too much on many different things, but don't finish everything they start (such as gmail).

I don't understand the PHP fuck rule. I'd expect this kinda thing from an overgrown, messy, low-level, compiled language like C, but not from a primarily web based and high level language like PHP. PHP may not deliver speed-wise or be good for lots of things that you need a compiled language for, but I'd think the ease of use would make for happier coders.

At least, I know I've given C more "fuck you"s than PHP...

On another note, I'm surprised by the amount of "xkeeper"'s in source code, although never actually denoting our administrator (usually as part of another term such as "maxkeeper". Boredom made me search for various usernames, so sue me.

They have something similar currently, Google PhoneBook.

To find listings for a US residence, type any of the following combinations into the Google search box:

* first name (or first initial), last name, city (state is optional)
* first name (or first initial), last name, state
* first name (or first initial), last name, area code
* first name (or first initial), last name, zip code
* phone number, including area code
* last name, city, state
* last name, zip code

To have your residential phone and address information removed from the Google PhoneBook, click here.

as for fuck, I've seen more of it in javascript, but that was only page 1. I can see this being useful for looking for how certain functions are used and such. or boredom.
