This is a hack I've been working on for a while now. It allows you to use 256 8x8 tiles instead of only 96 in tilesets, and up to 255 metatiles per tileset instead of 128. It's designed for Silver US, might work on Gold or even Crystal with some adjustment of offsets. The hack is achieved by using extra VRAM offered by the GB Color, so it adds a GB Color Only screen if you run it on older systems.
For those who are too dumb to read a readme, there are palette problems when closing the Pokégear, but they go away when you close the menu. This is probably fixable, but I was planning to just make the pause menu full-screen anyway.

Very cool. It definitely allows for much more detailed edits. The Pokégear error is no big deal, though.

One thing I can't figure out, though, is this "readme.txt." I don't know what it's for. I read it to find out what it was, but it told me to guess. =/

Well, the thread title says its for Silver, and HH pretty much explains what it does here...though, I suppose informative readmes never killed anyone good job though, I was wondering if you were still working on the classics

Yeah yeah, you did everything a year before the game came out. Funny how none of it shows up on Google, though.

How exactly did you get approved with such an eliteist attidue anyway? Honestly, if you can't appreciate other's contributions to this forum, no need to undermine them and even lie about it just because you have nothing to show. Watch it, Tauwasser.

Lol, you should always conduct your own research before discrediting someone. PoKéMoN Gold and Silver was released on November of 1999 in Japan.

Tauwasser does, actually, have plenty to share with you if you're willing to listen. The rom editing community is massive; many of us have been doing our thing years before coming to Acmlm. Tau comes from a German community, so it's unlikely that you've heard much about him. He was approved for his background. Whether that is based on his previous posts or his history in other communities, I don't know.

It's all good, though. Tauwasser and HyperHacker have always belittled each other's work.

It doesn't matter if someone else may have done it, though. Learning to do things like this without being told how to do it is what makes something like this great.

At least one German board I've been to (thanks Chiklit!) was heavily guarded. No wonder nothing showed up.

How would something show up anyway, as my nickname is a common word in German? And yeah, I always did everything better and faster than HyperHacker did! Like, remember that awful bank switching jump code he released? Like, lol

Right, so a German person hacked this into the rarely-hacked Japanese ROM as soon as it came out, and is now trying to say that because of this there's no need for me to do it with the English version. Even if he did this for whatever reason, I can't seem to find it.

Tauwasser does, actually, have plenty to share with you if you're willing to listen.

I've asked him to share his information countless times in the past. His response was always something along the lines of "find it yourself".

The rom editing community is massive; many of us have been doing our thing years before coming to Acmlm. Tau comes from a German community, so it's unlikely that you've heard much about him.

I started hacking at Total Anime Forums in late 2002, and he was there most if not all of the time I was, replying to peoples' posts saying "oh I did that last week" and "why not find it yourself".

It doesn't matter if someone else may have done it, though. Learning to do things like this without being told how to do it is what makes something like this great.

Exactly. I've always said there should be at least two tools for any given job, in case one has some flaw, you don't like the way it works, or *cough* it's vaporware. I may not use that cruddy bank switch hack anymore, or that Super Mario Land hack that let you choose a starting time limit but broke world 2, but I sure as hell learned a lot from them.

"Tauwasser Pokemon Hack" or anything along those lines.

And yeah, I always did everything better and faster than HyperHacker did!

But kept them all to yourself/a few friends, tucked away on some Google-blocking members-only message board not doing anybody any good. Let's see your 256-tile hack? Your map editor? Your script debugger? Your documentation of the game's internal routines? Your list of script codes that isn't just a lot of mostly incorrect guesses?

Like, remember that awful bank switching jump code he released? Like, lol

You mean one of the first (probably the first) ASM hacks I ever made over 3 years ago? Even I laugh at that (and although I'm perfectly aware why it sucked, I notice you've never been able to explain why yourself). The point is it worked, it was a contribution to the hacking community, and it's more than I've seen from you.

Be my guest, HH

Oh, see, now I even let u see my nice VWF in there, too !

I don't have a need for my custom map editor. But the one I use is made by a friend of mine. I'll share a pic of it too

The black rooftops are because I hacked that in there too... The editor, however, is 100% gold-compliant and doesn't use any goldmap-ish inis or anything and is compatible to both, English & German rom. I think it can handle japanese, too, I'm not sure tho

As for a script debugger... You mean ASM? I use No$GMB and BGB, both have their pro's and con's, obviously.
As for internal scripts. I simply don't use a debugger at all... When researching, I use my doc or the script routine (of the game). That helps me... dunno bout you, lad :O

My doc of the game's internal routines... I don't share that. However, you can have a picture of it too It's neither complete of course, nor should it be.

Finally, my scripting doc, that is indeed not based on guesswork, but, however on asm researching EACH AND EVERY scripting code and documenting what it does. By public demand, I soon translated into English. I'll attack it here, so you can see for yourself. Feel free to use it, nevertheless

Tauwasser

Um, I don't think so. For one, this is definitely NOT settled. The only thing I "learned" is that Tauwasser is showing himself to have an obnoxious eliteist attitude. Honestly, you HINDER the community by talking that way. Its people who act like you that make Pokemon hackng the way it is--a bunch of eliteist German hackers who hoarde information and act like they're better than everyone, and a bunch of retards who can't find or do anything on their own. This isn't stereotyping, its the damned truth. HyperHacker is perhaps one of the only middle ground hackers I know, who is neither a retard NOR an eliteist.

I won't stand for this kind of attitude here, not after all I've done to try and improve the Pokemon hacking community. Pokecommunity might tolerate it--and as I've said I don't know how many times, if this is how people are going to be, we don't want you, take it there.

Honestly it's like I'm the only one who even put any effort in to that forum back when it was its own (and I didn't even want to mod it). This crap ends now.

Hey, so I looked into your patch, just to see how it did things. First of all, you put a lot of effort into that... The same thing can be achieved another way. However, nice work, dude

Secondly, I looked into your patch and found what was causing the bug for you!

It's at 4:7E10. You revert the palettes to the ones from the backup-screen instead of the one used. You can change that in two or more ways:

- change it to read hl from 0x9800, it's probably always the accurate screen.
- change it to read hl from 0xFFD8/D9, that's the register that tells the game where to draw the tiles to
- or, preferrably the most accurate, change it to read from 0xC3A0, as that is always the right screen

On a side note, Zidane is absolutely right

It's not like I don't like HyperHacker or stuff, just a little competition here Sorry if it was to much for anybody :-/ On another hand though, I am really surprised HyperHacker didn't know about my scripting compendium, as it has been up for d/l for quite some time now.

If it comforts you: There are only a few elitist German pigs like me left. Pretty much all the others behave like you said too. German community is having problems to find skillful newbies, however, that wouldn't concern you.

Thanks to Kawa for reopening for me to post here.

The ironic part is how he lost it right after he seemed to have contributed a post that actually had some meaning.

Anyways, cool submission HyperHacker, and maybe Tau's post could help, I'm not much into Pokemon hacking myself.

I made another thread for it in WA/D, so if he wants to contribute anything related to the hack, that'd be the place to do it. I won't bother retyping my explanation here but that information wasn't particularly useful. At least he's trying.

Anyway, has anyone used it yet? Any problems?
